Darker than I would have expected for a hefeweizen, and I poured it into the wrong glass. But a nice wheat beer.

Look: Dark yellow, some brownish color also, lot of head. Look extremely captivating when you're thirsty.
Smell: Maltiness, a lot of wheat
Taste: Estery, some sour taste, a lot of banana aftertaste, wheat-y
Feel: Light body, some sour after taste, somewhat watery
A good thirst quencher for a summer day.

Pours a cloudy golden-orange-amber with a big, fluffy, creamy two finger head after a fairly aggressive pour. Nose is beautiful with notes of spicy clove, banana, a touch of caramel, and a bit of bubblegum. A little less fruity and yeasty than other good hefeweizens out there. A prickly, effervescent, light-medium body yields some citrus up front that leads the way to banana, apple, and clove notes. Perhaps even a touch of nutmeg or cinnamon in here. Perhaps I'm drinking this just a touch too cold while writing this, but this one seems to exhibit everything that's great about a good hefe, but slightly more subdued. Still, finishes clean, dry, and leaves me wanting more. A great food hefe.

500ml bottle into a conical pint glass. Paid £2.69 for a single bottle.

Pours a darker than typical, hazy, golden brown body with a lighter yellow glow around the edges. A tall, thick, slightly off white head quickly rises to three fingers in height before slow disappearing to a thin even film. Minimal lacing is left on the glass.

Rich banana dominates the nose, but also noticeable are soft fresh bread, caramel and a little clove. Taste is similar to smell with fresh baked, warm banana bread, wheat and malt. More sweet flavours follow with a hint of caramel and toffee. On the end there is a subtle, yeasty clove, peppery bite that gives a reasonably dry finish. It has a deep, rich, creamy mouth-feel, medium bodied, with good carbonation.

Overall this is an excellent beer. Well balanced, easy drinking and refreshing. I look forward to trying it again and have already recommended it to a friend.

Just finished hiking today and on the way home found a corner deli with a large selection of "fancy beers".

Grabbed this one as Delirium Tremens is just way too much for me (and it was the least expensive).

Poured into a beer glas and began drinking. Enjoyed it but did notice it was a little watery, not sure if that's me or something with the beer. It was still beer so I can't complain too much. I do enjoy it though and in the end, that's what counts.

Poured from a 500 ML bottle into a pint glass.
Aroma- Wheat and spice, very nice
Appearance- Pours a reddish brown with a medium sized fluffy head.
Taste- I noticed it was a little watery, but it had a very nice malt flavor
Palate- A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation
Overall- A very good hefeweizen, I will drink this again and I recommend everyone should try it.

Finally - four years after promising to review Weihenstephaner’s nearest rival in the high stakes game that is ‘number one Weissbier in the world’ I got my hands on another bottle of Schneider Weisse Tap 7 Unser Original. Shame on Schneider Weisse for having such crap distribution in Australia whilst its most average of competitors [I’m looking at you Erdinger!] can be found in most liquor chains. Anyway it is done - I found a bottle of Tap 7 and Plonk and I am going to review the shit out of it!

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a Stiegl Weizen glass.

A: Darker than most Hefeweizens with a hazy caramel brown body and a decent 1 inch cream coloured head that all too soon reduces to 1 cm with a sea foam consistency. I think Weihenstephaner is the winner here. 7/10.

S: Caramelised banana upfront and prominent with dry cracker and hints of pepper in the background. Touches of pear ester and a nutty character make themselves present upon a further whiff and really up the complexity ante against Weihenstephan, sehr schön! 10/10.

T: Distinctly dry on the palate, even for a Weizen, with the flavour taking a step back from the aroma promise but nonetheless providing the above anticipated notes: Caramel, banana, dry cracker, pepper, pear and pecan nut. The banana is less noticeable and takes a bit of a backseat to the caramel flavour, for better or worse. 8/10.

M: Here’s the most disappointing aspect of Tap 7 - medium bodied, but a tad watery, with a flatter carbonation than most Weizens - maybe I had a bad bottle, but this is an unacceptable texture for a Weizen. 6/10.

D: Memory has not been kind to Tap 7 for me. I recall it being perhaps a step above Weihenstephaner, however my mind has been playing tricks, or this is a bad bottle, either way the winner in my four year battle of Hefe-titans is Weihenstephaner (which I drink quite regularly now @ around $50 for a case of 12 it is hard to beat). Positives? We can finally lay to rest the promise I made to review Tap 7*... actually this is still a damn fine Weizen, just not the best. 8/10.

Food match: Roasted chicken breast with pancetta, leeks & thyme.

*I went back and had a look at my Weihenstephaner review and I actually promised to review the Tap 6 not the Tap 7, which is a Weizenbock not a Hefeweizen... :$

Served cool from 500ml bottle into Weizen glass.

L) Pale chestnut to caramel brown. Hazy, stiff white fluffy head. This one seems to get darker towards the top of the glass. I am sure there is a scientific explanation!

S) Zesty version of the typical clove aroma for Hefeweizens.

T) The darker malts give it a satisfying burnt-toffee edge to the standard banana-wheat flavour. There is a definite hint of sourness all along.

F) Smooth, subtle carbonation. Refreshing and no unwanted aftertastes, just a warming caramel flavour.

O) This used to be my favourite beer. It is still excellent.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #80 (Sep 2013):

A classic is what we have here, so easy to knock back. Not your typical contemporary Hefeweizen. as it dons a slightly darker color. Bold but very approachable, and don’t you dare think about garnishing this brew with any kind of citrus.

STYLE: Hefeweizen
ABV: 5.4%

LOOK: Hazed brassy hue, amazing head

SMELL: Ripe banana, bready, taffy, nutty yeast, lemon pith, dried grass, mild clove, fallen apples

TASTE: Perfect crispness, moderate-sized body, loaf of bread, estery, peppery, banana taffy, grainy, yeast, apple skin, spicy clove, kiss of alcohol warmth, drying finish

Canonical Hefeweizen. A little bit floral, a little bit spicy. Cloudy. Big foamy head. Nice and bubbly. Esters are present and add a bit fruit, but they don't really read like banana. Which to my palate is nice.

Head heavy, strong, accompanied to the end.
Intensely fruity aroma, bananas, peaches, a bit like earthy, similar to the smell of dust in the barn.
The smell is slightly acidic, you can also feel the caramel.
The taste of the fruit, banana, peaches, damson plum, is a very pleasant sour.
Gentian imperceptible. Very delicious, I'm pleasantly surprised to drink easily. For me revelation. I Recommend.

A: clear; light amber in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a thin cap; no lacing;

S: more clove than banana; a bit of bubblegum;

T: moderate clove up front; a little biscuit; bubblegum gets added in at mid-palate; a mild tartness from mid-palate through the finish; almost no bitterness;

M: light to medium bodied; highly carbonated; very fine carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: oddly clear; in my opinion, this needed more clove and some banana in the flavor;

Different than the unusual weissbier i've drunk in the past.
Color pours a dark brown-ish - VERY different.
OK smell.
Quick "fingers" down the glass but good golden wheat beer much like Hoegaarden but for the color.
Nice for breaking up the night with one or two at the max.

Sexy veiled pure amber color. Gorgeous beige head with good lacing. Lots of activity.

Sweet aromas and flavors of fruit and wheat. Nutty and slightly spicy.

Extremely flavorful and balanced taste, complex and delicate, but a little too faint.

Slightly too light for my taste, still slick and prickly. Very short finish with good intensity, ending of the bitter side.

Overall an excellent beer, but a little too light compared to others of the same brand. More enjoyed TAP 6.

I am not a huge fan of this style, but this beer has me thinking otherwise. Most of the hefeweizen brewed by North American craft breweries is much lighter in colour and lack the richness of this beer. It pours nicely, albeit cloudy, with a bit of quickly receding head. The nose is yeast, banana and clove - quite nice. I quite liked the overall flavor, rich and full of surprises. The finish is a little too yeasty and tart for my liking, but it certainly fits the unique experience this beer provides.
