Poured from bottle into SW weizen glass. The look of this beer had me excited. A plum colored gem with off white pillow head 2 fingers and some retention. Smell is typical of the style. Cloves, lemon, wheat, grass. Taste was where is got away for me. A little pungent on the tongue. Zesty, but flat and missing something IMO. I consider WeihenStep the benchmark for Hefes and this fell short. Was wanting more of that fruity/banana hefe bomb but it didn't deliver. Feel was medium dry with a good bit of carbonation. Overall- A decent Hefe and easy to drink. Beautiful color and hue in the glass. Average taste and feel. Wouldn't turn it down but will not go searching for. I like my hefes with punch and this let down-

Schneider Weisse Original has a very thick, light beige head and an initially clear, amber appearance, which clouds up once the bottom bit is swished and poured in. Then, little gray chucks float about. This beer is very bubbly, like Champagne. There is a small bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of clean water, grain husks, and some sweetness. Taste is of white wheat bread, sourness, sweetness, a touch of mild hop bitterness, yeast, and a ghost of coriander. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Schneider Weisse finishes dry and quite refreshing. Overall, this is a very good beer.

The beer appears autumnal orange with a thick , lasting, light tan head. An odd color for a hefeweizen, but still a good appearance. Moving on...The aroma offers bananas, clove, malt, booze...slightly sweet. The flavor is smooth and balanced, with banana character gaining strength in the finish. Additional flavors aside from the norm include a pronounced malt flavor with some candy sweetness. Less bold than some of my favorite examples of the style. That said, this beer has some character and pizzaz. Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation. Overall, this is solid, but I would never choose it over Weihenstephaner.

Schneider Weisse The Original. Poured into the classic Schneider Weisse Hefe glass. The underside of the bottlecap and the inside of the mouth of the bottle shows a thick layer of yeast gunk from the bottle conditioning, however when I poured it, I got some great clarity in a coppery-colored brew. The head was tame from the start and never got above two fingers. It has since fallen to a thin cap. 3.0

The nose is rich with toasted malt grains, clove, bubblegum, and light banana. Not the typical fruity/yeast smell. The grains almost have a Marzen-like toast to them. Not much spiciness, and no detectable off-aromas. 4.0

Some metallic flavors possibly arising from well-toasted grains comes off almost copper-tasting. A little bit on the musty side for a hefe, but still yielding clove as the front-runner ester. Very slight bubblegum and banana in the finish, but not much. The finish is semi-dry with some hop bitterness. 4.0

Feels a little overcarbonated. Quite the burpy hefe. The body is match-medium and there's a slight fusel finish to the beer. More prickly due to hop bitterness than yeast spiciness, which makes it different, but still enjoyable. 3.5

First time having this one and I have to say that I'm glad I've tried it, but I won't be seeking it out. I do, however, regret not picking up the Edel-Weisse (Tap 4) while I was at the store today and giving that a whirl. In due time, I suppose. This is a tasty hefe ideal on a weekday afternoon. Worth a try. 4.0

A: cloudy light brunette (darker than usual cloudy deep yellow
hefeweizen), 2 finger white fluffy head, solid lacing

S: clove, wheat, mild banana

T: clove, wheat, grain, semi-dry finish

M: med/light body, tongue prick up front
semi-dry/crisp mouth

O: Love German beers and this style, but
was slightly disappointed at this offering.
Would have again, but not seek out.
Fine gateway Hefe or German brew for newbie
and good summer alternative for BMC fans.

SOLID, NOT MUST HAVE!

I'm not going to get into all the details of beer advising. I'm only going to say that this beer makes me thing of the modern traditional German song, ""Im Himmel gibt's kein Bier" (i.e., "In Heaven, There is No Beer".) There is no better Weissbeer, period. I'd drink more of it, but it's hard to justify paying 3.5 USD for a 1/2 L when unemployed, even when it's this good.

Extreme head on first pour, but the head dissipates quickly to nothing! Color is golden, with an amber tint. No haze… should have inverted the bottle. Nice nose of bananas, bubble gum, and some yeasty funk. Smells very tart. Doesn't pull me in quite like the Weihenstephaner.

Taste comes off a bit stale. High carbonation stays very prickly the mouth. Finishes dry and a little yeasty. No sweetness at all, and ester flavors don't show up that much in the flavor. Got all the yeast in the last pour (500ml into 12oz glass) and the bubble gum shows up more.

Overall: B+, leaves me 'eh'
