Picture perfect bier, really great organic lighter shade of a weisse beer from Schneider, Cloudy orange golden, billowing off white head forms thick chunky lacing down the sides of my glass. First whiff gives you loads of banana, clove, and spicy character from the yeast strain. Perfectly balanced this Wiesen Edel-Weisse is a work of art, perfect interplay of wheat, citrus character, grassy hay, clove, and bananas and bubblegum nothing overpowers finishes somewhat clean and super refreshing. Hands down the best organic beer I've ever had. A bit of dry chalky character is added to the bier once you pour the rest of the yeast sediment into the glass, this proves the theory that beer is food.

500ml bottle poured into a weizen glass.

A: Cloudy yellow with some darker brown hues. The fluffy white head stands at an impressive three finger height and retains very well. Clumps of foamy lacing stick to the glass.

S: Yeasty and spicy. Fruit blossoms, incense, chalky, subtle white pepper and clove. Green bananas. Wheaty and bready. A memorable nose that pops.

T: As in the nose, the yeast really leads. Chalky, and maybe even a little musty. Hint of white pepper. A touch medicinal. Green banana. Apple blossom. Walnut. Bready wheat and dough. Banana bread, peppery spice, and yeast on the finish.

M: Medium-light body. Airy and creamy. Highly effervescent.

O: A nice hefeweizen. Very yeast forward and raw, even for the style. Distinct and unique.

@ Double Windsor, Brooklyn NY

Cloudy honey color with a messy white head. I was sloshing quite a bit so I know this beer rouses well. Smells like clove and potpourri. A bit nutty. Taste is heavy on clove, light on 'nana. Again the malt has a nutty toffee lean and there's a sweet, floral finish.

I'm more of a banana man myself but if you're a clove kinda guy or gal I could see where this would paddle your canoe.

From 11/05/13 notes. Had this at Radegast in Brooklyn, served in a 0.5L weiss glass.

a - Pours a somewhat clear golden-yellow color with two fingers of fluffy slightly off white head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks pretty nice.

s - Smells of bananas, cloves, light citrus hops, fruit, honey, spices, pepper, yeast, bready malts, grains, and dough. Very nice nose with some good banana and citrus up front.

t - Tastes of dough, biscuit malts, bready malts, light bananas, cloves, spice, pepper, yeast, earthy notes, wheat, and grains. Little more malt and less fruit here, good though.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Body is super smooth and creamy and it is very easy to drink. You could definitely have a few of these.

o - Overall a very good beer; one of the better German hefeweizens in the US that you can find pretty easily. Nice bananas up front and super easy to drink, would recommend and would have again for sure.

Bottle poured into a glass beer boot

Honey yellow with light carbonation leading to a thick, fluffy white three finger foam cap. Faint lacings .

Aroma of hops and banana yeast. Hint of citrus.

Traditional Wiesse beer taste, hint of banana. Light mouthfeel. Light carbonation. Smooth, slight bitterness on the side if the tongue. Smooth finish.

Great smooth drinking Wiesse beer. Worthy of multiple repeats, preferably on a hot summer day.

Poured into a tulip.

A very nice complex weizen. Definitely do not forget to swirl the bottle before pouring as it is a better tasting beer with the sediment. 4

A – Poured a clear golden (without disturbing the sediment) with a white/white dense one-finger head. Good head retention. Lacing pour. After swirling the beer it poured an appropriately cloudy faded gold color. 4

S – Spicey over top of citrus notes, wheaty, minor clove over top of even fainter banana. 4.25

T – Slightly peppery, wheaty and bready. 3.75

MF – A bit thin, light bodied, medium dry finish with some lasting sharpness on the palate. 3.5

Tap #4 Weisen Edel-Weiss. Date on bottle says "13.186". Guessing that means it was bottled on the 186th day of 2013, which puts it around July 5th?

Appearance: Beautiful, hazy, orange colored beer with a large, frothy white head. Really good looking beer.

Smell: Tons of your typical hefe aromas like banana and clove, mixed in with some citrus. Bready wheat malts and sourdough yeast. Top notch.

Taste: Medium bodied with a thick texture. Very chewy compared to a regular hefeweizen.

Mouthfeel: Something is lacking here. There is a strong twang in the finish. Does not go down as easy as it seems like it should. Maybe the strength of the ABV has something to do with it.

Overall: One-step away from being a world class beer. Needs to be more drinkable to reach it's full potential. Just slightly too abrasive on the palate. Really good beer overall though.
