Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines (style 15A). AROMA: moderate wheat aroma with no phenols and no esters. no hop aroma. APPEARANCE: pale straw color with a long-lasting white head. a bit haizy. TASTE: soft wheat flavour with very low hop flavour. mild citric flavour present. Absent or very low esters and phenols. PALATE: medium-light body with a light fizzy finish. OVERALL: a nice weizen but without esters and phenols.

A murky, orange, golden beer with an everlasting head which is very mousse-y and creates a nice cookshat.

Smell is full of banana and clove and the ussual spiciness which is creates by the yeast. Some grainy wheat smell.

Taste is spicy with clove, without showing a lot of the ripe banana flavors. The wheat gives the beer it's ussual grainy smell, which always appear 'not fresh' to me. A rather thin body which fits the style. This beer isn't really much different from other weizens I had. A solid beer.

500ml bottle into 0.5L Franziskaner weizen glass. Crazy amount of foam -- took a while to pour, but the foam eventually reduces down to a 1 finger head that sticks around a while even after pouring the yeasty sediment through it. Dull hazy dark amber color, somewhat darker than I expected.

Aroma of wheat and malt plus banana, clove, and slight bubblegum? Taste opens up with a bit of sour lemon, cloves, and banana and yields to a fresh yeasty pretzel bread and light maltiness. Slightly salty earthiness peeks in maybe from the yeast?

Carbonation is too low, and this finishes too wet. Hops only maybe expressed in the initial citrus tang, almost no bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavier than I expected for a hefeweizen.

Tastes a little bland; it's got a nice bunch of flavors working in there, but not strong enough and the bready wheat and malt are not as assertive or deep as I would prefer. Drinkability is a bit "ehhh" since I was underwhelmed by the taste... maybe this bottle was a little old?

This beer pours a slightly golden straw color with a billowing head of 12 fingers initially wtih the aggressive pour that falls to a 3 finger head and finally a quarter inch over the beer before drinking. The nose is nice, with a moderate banana and clove character. Some slight graineyness and wheatyness is present as well. The flavor is lacking a little in my opinion. I would like a more forceful banana. The flavor is just slightly weak overall. The feel is the same. The thickness I expect is not there. No creamyness is found. Just an overall lack of body. The brew is smooth and drinkable. I would still like to see more flavor and body. Just an okay hefe.

Purchased from the Beers of Europe, BB 02/02/09, served chilled in a pint-size weizen glass.

A: murky dark amber hue, topped with a thick layer of off-white frothy head with decent retention; carbonation is constant and semi-lively. All looks well for a weizen.
S: a very pleasant grainy aroma of malts, lively banana-bread-ish perfumy esters and sour-sweet lactose-drink dominate the nose, with (a little) random touches of cloves, vanilla, semi-sweet mangos and resinous notes of hops. Not as rich and caramely as the same brewery's "Original", but in a sense smells more pleasant and light.
T: light spiciness buttresses the citric-zesty fruitiness and lactose-drink yeastiness upfront, leading towards a pleasantly perfumy estery taste and aromatic grainy malts balanced consistently by a sour-lemony touch, before reaching a tangy, sour-sweet fruity, mildly clove-ish spicy as well as grainy-malty finish.
M&D: semi-lively carbonated, quite refreshing, very light on the body, albeit a bit thin in the end for my taste... True to the style and benefiting from the lovely esters and light-but-delicious grainy malts, this weizen proves a quaffable example of weizen bier.

I had really very high expectations of the Hefeweizen but I have to admit I am a little
disappointed. It comes served in a great bottle, and a great Weizen glass; the pouring left
a huge generous head but when I tasted it, I felt it did not really taste like a Wheat beer.
The yeast in use did not taste like the typical German yeast used in most German beers. In
short the taste was pretty unexpected though there were hints of wheat. I felt that the yeast
was a little more similar to Belgian yeast but Paul, who tried my glass of Schneider Weisse
claimed otherwise, maybe it was really just me. The taste was pretty alright and refreshing
but still I preferred the wheaty taste that is so obvious and appreciated in the Erdinger
and Widmer's American Hefeweizen. Paul had a Schneider Weisse Original and I preferred that
to my Weizenhell Hefe. I am going to try the Paulaner's Hefeweizen which has been sitting in
my fridge for too long. I believe that one's going to show what a Hefeweizen's made of. :)

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. This bottle was labeled Tap 1 Mein Blondes.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is wheat, coriander and cloves. I don't get much banana in the aroma. The flavor is heavy on the wheat and cloves, but I also don't get much banana. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A decent wheat beer, but not up to the level of the other great wheat beers from this brewery.

A decent Hefe though style of which I'm not overly fond. The look is a nice mid amber with a decent white head and some lacing. The nose is full of bananas and cloves and this follows suit in the flavor with the cloves definitely taking the upper hand. This finishes nicely crisp and clean, with a short lived aftertaste. Good drinkability, especially for fans of the style.

From Leura. Oops!!!! BB 301306 :-(

A - golden blonde, less head than should be, no lace.

S - massive bananas, hint bubblegum. Clove, spice.

T - fair whack (technical term) of banana, add cloves, yeast, and aged semillon notes. Quite vinous, more so than expected. Almost some barrel notes as well.

M - let down - just bubbles in mouth really, fizzy.

O - Maybe an unfair review given it's out-of-date but still very drinkable. If only Australian brewers could do the same. Pales against Weihenstephan tho, especially in mouthfeel.

Had this on an unusually warm April day at Cafe St.-Ex in the early evenning and it was perfect.

Appeared a cloudy, yellow-gold color with a white, bubble-laiden head that left behind some lacing. Moderate to high level of carbonation. Aromas of ripe bananas, cloves, and dried leaves. A very earthy taste that is complex in how the varying flavors of tropical fruit, cloves, and earth meld together. Crisp, refreshing, and dry with a nice level of sweetness, but bitter at the same time. Very enjoyable, but perhaps a bit too tart for me after a pint or two.

Light orange to amber in appearance with a big, foamy white head that eventually settles to a thin lacing.

Wheat and citrus to begin with, the is the usual hefeweizen banana and spice notes that follow this up and a touch of bubblegum as well. I could detect some background sweetness and fruity notes and yet more spice.

Spicy and bitter citrus with a strong banana and clove taste following this. There is some fruit, it hints at some grapefruit as well and there is a bitter (for a hefeweizen at least) finish.

Low to mild carbonation with this one and a bitter citrus palate that finishes quite wet and creamy whilst the beer has a medium body.

Very nice beer and slightly different to a lot of other hefeweizens in the fact that the flavours are a little more bitter and with more citrus than I expected but the beer itself was a good one.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2012, so it's slightly out of date. ABV is stated as 5.2%. Picked up cheap from my local beer specialist. I'm a little confused about the difference between this and the original (Tap 7), but here goes.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deeply translucent golden-amber with a ton of yeast. Yields a large fluffy head of white foam with decent retention; this eventually settles and dissipates. A rich, sweet aroma of bananas, cloves, marzipan, wheat malt and dry yeast esters. A subtle background fruitiness that is hard to place.

Tastes of wheat, with a bright, fruity character and a dry finish. Notes of bananas, cloves and earthy yeast. A hint of stewed hops and a faint staleness in the background. Mouthfeel is smooth and full-bodied, but dry and lacking in carbonation. Coats the palate. Rather astringent. Aftertaste of bananas, wheat malt and yeast esters.

Not bad, though perhaps not the best weissbier I've tried. All the expected flavours and aromas are abundantly present, but the dry background staleness detracts from the taste. The flat body doesn't help either - I was expecting a live beer to be more effervescent. Still, a solid brew with a nice character. Worth sampling.

Found this for sale at the beers of europe website for a good price.

Anyway, very good hefe appearance in the proper glassware, showing a radiant gold body under a billowing white head that leaves big globs of lace all the way to the bottom of the glass. Textbook. Standard aroma of banana and clove is as expected, though the taste falls short of my hopes a little. The banana and clove are at the forefront and ably supported by lightly tangy wheat. Decent balance between sweet and sour, with a lightly bitter crisp finish that curtails the aftertaste rapidly. Medium body with the billowing carbonation you expect for a hefe.

While this is a good variation on the original I'm not sure its any better.
