Sampled on-tap at the Weisses Brauhaus in Munich. "Schneider Hell Weissbier".

This pale hefeweizen poured cloudy, golden color with slightly off-white, creamy foam that persisted. The smell was wheat malt plus light bananas. The taste was malty with banana and a touch of citrus tartness. The mouthfeel was smooth yet crisp with medium body and medium carbonation and a light fruitiness. The banana and citrus flavors lingered lightly in the aftertaste. This was a very nice and easy drinking hefeweizen -- a bit lighter and less rich than its cousin, the "original" hefeweizen.

Crisp and clean as Weizenbocks go. Brilliant orange-gold appearance, moderately cloudy. Green apple peal aromatic front, banana middle, clove finish. Aroma is truly wonderful. Tastes fruity of pear, mandarin oranges, and wheat. A bit darker than most. Heavy carbonation, nice streaming. Very refreshing and drinkable.

A: Cloudy, but thinner in color than I would expect for a Hefeweizen. But the rear label also classifies it as a Weizenvollbier. Orange yet slightly brown in color. Beautiful inch and a half head. I forgot to mix this one well and I see faintly what looks like slightly darker than the beer color, food coloring drop patterns floating in the middle.

S: Sweet cooked banana yeast. The most banana-y hefeweizen I've smelled.

T: Besides banana, there's an unplaceable mild fruity sweetness. A tinge tart. Alcohol is present in the aftertaste, which is surprising for the ABV.

M: Medium body, with very mild micro carbonation. Smooth.

D: Very good beer. I only wish it was a hair sweeter.

I had this (im fass gereift) at the Weisses Brauhaus, where it was listed as 5.2% alcohol.

A: Golden yellow, slight haze, great head & lace.

S: Bready malt, slight banana.

T: Bready malt, slight banana, hint of citrus. Quite malty, with a crisp finish. Well balanced.

M: Light to moderate body and carbonation. Crisp, but somewhat creamy. Very nice.

D: Very good.

Pours a nice golden brown and is smooth and medium bodied. No tinge of real bitterness or immaturity. Goes smooth and not overly heavy on the palate and stomach. Flavoring is even and consistent with little changing until it is gone. One to come back to time and time again.

Poured from the bottle a hazy orange-gold with a huge frothy white head which quickly melted away.

Nice aroma of banana, lemon, cloves, and wheat.

Tastes of banana, lemon, bubblegum, yeast, and cloves. Finish reveals more of a wheaty side to the beer.

Medium bodied, creamy-yet sharp, with moderate carbonation.

One of my favorite hefes for sure and a real joy to drink.

A - Poured from a bottle into a weizen glass. Pours amber, fairly darker than other hefeweizens, and with a foamy white head.

S - Malty, wheaty, yeasty, and with faint spices.

T - Akin to the aroma; trademark wheaty taste with more malt than some, fruity, citrus notes and spices.

M - Thinner than medium bodied, decent carbonation.

Notes - A prototypical hefe.

Poured a nice dark amber with a moderate foam head. You could definitely smell the bananas and the hints of clove. The taste is definitely refreshing as the bananas and yeast make for a refreshing and fruity blend.

The carbonation is moderate making it easy to drink.

Definitely worth drinking.

I definitely enjoyed this beer from start to finish. Poured a cloudy, golden brown after the yeast came into the mix. Massive head that remained for a good time. Excellent, somewhat toned down smell with some sort of fruit and a bready aroma. The taste reminds me of a spotted banana, my favorite, as the wheat does well to keep it from being too much. Ideal mouthfeel for a hefe and as drinkable as they come. Of the limited number of hefes I've been able to find, this one ranks among the leaders.

Poured from tap at Prost Portland into Schneider branded hefeweizen glass.

Pours with about as gorgeous a head as one could ask for. About 2 inches of magical froth fades to a thick white lace. Hazy straw hue. Perfect.

The most amazing thing about this hefe is the nose. Unlike many others, this one has a LOT going on. The aromas are nicely delineated with banana and clove dominating up front. After a moment one finds the Belgian style yeast and bread note framed by a mild straw aroma with pepper and a hint of anise. I'm content to sit at the bar like a freak with my nose in the glass getting a foamy nose tip!

Flavors are nice and welcoming with yeast dominating. There is more fruit on the palate and a hint of spice and straw all coming together. Good palate, but the nose was much more impressive.

Body is light but the texture is good. Great balance of alcohol, acid, and malts. Finishes with a medium intense finish focused mostly on malt and yeast.

Overall one of the big three of the German hefeweizens (along with Weihenstephaner and Franziskaner) and deserving of being ranked up towards the top with those brews!
