What can you say about a place that's in a classic small town bavarian town that makes perfect and creative beers?
This place is worth driving out of your way if you visit Munich, Bamberg etc... The tours are informative and well done. The beer garden is beautiful and the food is wayyyy above avg for German pub cuisine.
Kelheim is a beutiful little town worth a day visit or one night stay.
Plus, this is one of the best brewers in germany. It's a must if you are anywhere near here. Plan your trip with Kelheim if you are a beer lover

My wife and I visited Kelheim on good Friday, so unfortunately (or perhpas fortunately) only the biergarten was open for service. It was located through a passageway from the main square of the old town, behind the Weisses Brauhaus. The shade was somewhat sparse compared to say the Hofbrauhaus in Munich, but then again, it was early March.
The food was excellent, my wife ordered the weisswurste (white sausages) and I had the "Schweinsschnitzel". Both were delicious. Possibly the best meal we shared in Germany!
I sampled Aventinus and my wife the Aventinus Eisbock - served of course, in their own glassware.
There were only a few people around the biergarten for lunch, but the staff was still very congenial and although their English was not perfect and our German terrible, we managed to have a decent conversation with a waitress, dressed in a traditional clothing.
Kelheim and the Weisses Brauhaus are a must daytrip from Munich or Nuremberg!

Came here on a Sunday morning with my wife. Bottom line, it was an absolute delight, just bursting with joyful festivity, and was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Pure Bavaria. A brass group played little jigs throughout. The place was totally packed. Food was nice, lots of wurst and traditional Bavarian cuisine. Servings were large. Beer selection was awesome, they had all the special "Tap" Schneider offerings on, each was basically a different type of Hefeweizen. I didn't bring enough money and they didn't accept credit cards so unfortunately we had to cut this short. Amazing place!

Kelheim is the home to the Schneider Brewery, makers of Schneider Weiß and Aventinus, to name a couple. And the location in Kelheim is also home to the Weißes Brauhaus, like its namesake in München.
I entered looking for their Biergarten, but first encountered 3-4 different rooms/halls available for dining/drinking. The first was large and arched, with white walls, a high ceiling and a dozen large, heavy wooden tables. A bit further was a room with a low, arched white ceiling with some beautiful artwork painted upon it. More heavy wood tables were present, along with an extremely ornate Kochelofen (sp?). Down a hall I passed a small dining room straight out of the middle ages. It was dimly lit, with dark wood tables and benches, plus dark wood paneling. Looked awesome. Onwards a bit more, I came to the Biergarten, with 30+ tables and chairs. It was a gorgeous Sunday, and that's where I parked. Service was decent, polite and friendly. The bier menu was about identical to that of the München Weißes: Schneider Weizenhell, Original, Aventinus, Eisbock, Kristall, Leicht... plus some biers from KarmelitenBrau: Kloster Urtyp, Kloster Gold, Kloster Dunkel and Kloster Donau Pils. Nice list!! I didn't dine, but from what I saw of others meals, they looked large and inviting. Like its München sister, this place is a winner.

The vibe really is the best part of this place. I also enjoyed the different selections of beer styles they made as well as the other more main stream brewers that they carried. We drank in the arched white room in the bar area. The room was warm and inviting and got busier as the night went on.
The staff didn't speak English which I'm fine with (I'm in Germany after all) but they were as helpful as possible through our language barrier. They made recommendations and gave us prompt, courteous service.
We didn't try the food but everything we saw made us really want to. It looked very well prepared and smelled delicious. Based on the amount of locals eating I don't see any reason not to recommend the food even if I haven't tried it.
Now the down side. Although they have quite the vibe and selection I felt that they were more geared towards tourists. In fact the restaurant/ bar at our hotel carried the same brewery beer but for 0.50 euro less then at the brewery. It's a cool place to visit but only of the bier garden is open. If not I would stick to my hotel which had the same beer cheaper and honestly the beer wasn't really the highlight of this visit. It's good but not great.
