A solid strong blonde with a rounded maltiness and slightly contrasting light earthy hop that is well blended with a bready yeast flavour.

250ml bottle served in a Duvel tulip glass.

A: Pours an absolutely clear golden yellow color forming a medium creamy and bit soapy white head. Medium persistence and lots of lingering and molasses lacings left in the glass

S: Sweet grain. Fruits and bready Belgian-style yeasts. Notes of honey. Very light flowery hops in the very end

T: Follows the notes. Sweet and malty upfront. Caramel malts and bready yeasts. Notes of honey and candy sugar. Light bitter end

M: Medium body and carbonation. Sweet grains and bready yeasts in the aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. Average Belgian Strong Ale

Not to be confused with the more famous Chimay, this beer comes from the southeast of Belgium and comes in a small 250 ml bottle. Served in its branded glass, on to the beer:

A syrup orange color shines in the body of this beer. On top sits a creamy 1½ inch thick head which leaves whisps of lace around the glass. The aroma of honey blossom and some grass arises from the beer. Its taste is two dimensional, but is reasonably balanced between the honey and floral flavors. There isn't much yeast found that's affecting the flavor of the beer. It's medium-full bodied with a little bit of a velvet texture.

Ciney is a little sweeter that other blonds. If you like sweeter blonds, this might be for you.

Bottle served into a Ciney goblet in a cafe in Brussels, Belgium. Reviewed from notes taken in June 2011. Cost was 3.00 euro.

A: Pours a one finger head of slight cream, good thickness, and average retention (~2 minutes). Colour is a clear dark yellow.

Sm: Cream - but not well handled. Weak barley. Some alcohol. A mild strength aroma. Underwhelming.

T: Cream over top a moderately full-bodied barley foundation. Alcohol does come through a biteen. A pretty simple build for the style. It's balanced, but there's just so little going on here. Not subtle or well-layered.

Mf: Smooth and wet, but not overly so. Nice coarseness on the climax to bring out the flavour.

Dr: The ABV is poorly concealed. A below average quality beer for the style. Priced decently for what it is, but I wouldn't have it again.

25 cl Bottle poured into my cantillon tulipglass

: White foamy head. Pours a light hazy yellow beer. Smell fruit, bitters/hops, sweets, hint of sour, yeast/dough and malts. Taste a mix of freshness, fruit, spices, wheat, sugars, yeast and hop. Also taste hints of honey, malts/grains and slight hint of alcohol. Well balanced, but maybe a little bit too much carbonation

33cl bottle into a Ciney goblet.

A: Clear light amber body under a fine white head. Solid retention, spotty lace. Good.

S: Grassy, bready, and a little estery. Pretty simple, and not bad.

T: Smooth grassiness, bready malt, and some clean booze-tinged minerality on the phenolic finish. Tasty.

M: Fairly light-bodied with nice lively frothiness. Good.

O: Better than the Ciney Bruin, this was a very fresh, tasty beer.

Cheers!
