Pours a dark reddish brown brew with a decent head.
The aroma is quite malty, with dark fruits and caramel. Some spicy and yeasty notes as well. Very inviting ...
The taste is sweet, a bit too sweet maybe, but boy is it tasty! Starts of with sweet malts, caramel and dark fruits after wich a spicy hop bite announces a slightly acidic, spicy finish. There's some coffee and bitterness near the end, but it's definitely sweet flavours that dominate in this brew.
The mouthfeel is nice: sweet, smooth with quite some bubbles and a medium body. Very drinkable as well.

Overall, this is a most enjoyable sipper.

This is the first time I ever tasted this beer. I found it in my local supermarket. So this review is also a first impression. When I first poured in the beer, I was surprised by the strong head coming up. I can’t remember other Ciney’s having this. But once poured in, the head was fast gone,… It had a sweet malt smell. At first it tasted like a very sweet coffee with caramel to sweeten it up. It reminded me of a Keizer Karel/Charles Quint exept from a KK having a lot of acidity. The aftertaste was very fruity. But it was the caramel that kept on lingering in my mouth. This is really a beer for a sweet tooth. The sweetness kept asking me to keep on drinking, revitalising the caramel coffee experience. It is a very drinkable beer. It keeps asking for more. I am more than satisfied with this beer. Also because I’m not such a big Ciney fan. But I would certainly advise this beer to people who like sweet beers.

Ut vivat, crescat, floreat!

The beer after its defection from the 330ml brown bottle sets up its temporary residence in my glass a luminous deep ruby red with a portly light tan frothy head, and after its erosion, the resultant lace forms a thin skirt to surround the glass. Nose is loaded with the aroma of over ripe fruit, plums comes to mind, sweet malt and a molasses like tone with some peat and smoke a complex nose to say the least, the start is sweet and thick with malt the top is middling in its feel. Finish is stinging in its acidity, the hops pertinent to the style and the 9 percent ABV, leaves a nice warming sensation in the tummy, quite dry aftertaste that sticks to the palate, a most enjoyable beer.

1cm beige head over a deep dark brown body. Aroma is quite inviting and compelx, almost unexpected. Aromas of yeast, anise, cocoa, powder sugar, spices.. lots of malt in there for a Belgian. Quite flavourful, coffee tones on the tongue. 9% is almost transparent. Spicy bitter finish (cloves, Christmas spice). Fitting medium body, moderately high carbonation. Great take on the style!

Colour was bourgondy red, with a very stable, off-white heat.
Smell: rum raisins, currents, alcoholic, slightly acidic and 'quadrupel' like, meaning that it is strong, fruity and heavy.
Taste is slightly acidic, caramel, raisins, dark fruit, sticky, sweet, and also a slight oxidation in there.
This is one of my favorite beers, with the raisin smell and taste is one I can not get enough of.

The Ciney brandy style glass really influences my experience in drinking this belgian. Its deep ruby red colour, very luminescent, and its very low carbonation reminds me of a good red wine. But the head, a 6 cm malty colour foam quickly reduced to a thin hood, tells me that this is nothing else that a beer, a very good beer. So tasty and sweet, with smells of banana and maybe melon, hop and sweetnes in falvour, only shily balanced by it's slightly bitter aftertaste, this is a great companion for an after dinner of relax. Drinkability is at top levels, even with it's 9°, thanks to the little bottle of only 25 cl.
This is not a balanced beer, and that is the good thing. Ciney Speciale is scented and tasty, sweetly tasty. If you have a Ciney glass (or a brady one), it's shape invites you to gently shake, renewing the foam, smell, drink and be happy.

Beer bottle (25cl), tasted in 2000.
Appearance: dark brown color, well saturated, beautiful foam
Smell: fruity nose, roasting
Taste and mouthfeel: sour on the palate, there are roasting, banana flavors, mocha and licorice
Drinkability: a beer correct, but without further
