Stopped in on the way home from the beach (it's about 5 minutes out of your way if you're on I-95). Thought I'd just check it out. Right.

The guy at the cash register said they were voted the #3 bottle shop in the US. I believe it. It's like a theme park with world-class beer. More than 3000 different beers. 25 beers on tap. I was totally stunned.

I wandered about and filled a 6-pack (rather randomly):
Clown Shoes Galactica
Mikkelsen Better Half (they have a HUGE selection of European beers)
DuClaw Mosaic Hop Continuum #2
Weyerbacher Heresy
Weyerbacher Old Heathen
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot

...and grabbed a 4-pack of Oscar Blues G'Knight for good measure.

Everything is available as a single if you want variety. Staff is friendly, polite and knowledgeable. Selection is, in my experience, unparalleled.

Note to self: do some homework ahead of time, or you'll never make it to the beach! (905 characters)

State Line Liquors. Wow. What can't be said about this beer heaven. I had heard for a long time that this was THE place to go for the best selection of beer and it sure doesn't disappoint. What an awesome place. Don't let the exterior fool you... (246 characters)

Best selection I have seen in the area and does not feel like a college dump being that close to U of Delaware. Like the option of mixing packs. Staff is very helpful, willing to grab something cold from in back for me. Growler station was great, nice selection and prices. My filler knew each brew inside and out. (314 characters)

Visited this store on my way to the Philadelphia airport. It is very convenient, right off I-95. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but there selection is really world class. Very friendly staff as well. Mildly knock is that some of the bottles were dated a bit, so I would definitely recommend checking dates prior to purchasing any hoppy beers. (356 characters)

Passed by this place so many times but never gave it a second look. i have been missing out big time. Found so many beers I have read about and seen on the internet but were not available in Virginia. I will be stopping in again probably this week to pick up some more beers. Also they have a beer club that is free to sign up for. (335 characters)

The only reason it doesn't get 5's across the board is the appearance of the building and some old beer, especially in the imports. Check the dates.

The selection is world class. If it is available in Maryland it looks like they have it. The employees are very nice and helpful. They even loaded my trunk up for me which was a nice bonus. The growler station is also large and diverse.

I live in Dover, DE and I will be be visiting monthly. I am willing to drive round trip 100 miles, pay tolls and sales tax to shop here. (533 characters)

Finally made it down here and I was very impressed. Reasonable prices and a huge variety. The staff was super helpful searching for three items for me. They also helped cart my haul off to my car. One of the better service experiences I have had at a store in a while. Definitely making plans to come back. (312 characters)

Boy do I wish I lived closer to this place. Unbelievable selection. Reasonable prices although they have gone up recently. Helpful staff members always available. Perhaps the best bottle shop in the state of MD. (212 characters)

State Line, what a mythical creature! Finally I am in you… but who would know as you pull into the parking lot and peer at the ramshackle building full of cheap signs and garish neons. It doesn’t matter- once you’re inside and find the beer, you will be in massive awe.

12 different Bruery brands, the entire Southern Tier lineup, Old Stock 2011 Brandy, Amager and To Ol from Scandinavia, Emelisse and more Evil Twin than I even thought possible. And I’m only talking about the rarer stuff!

Prices are reasonable, service is super nice. They have a growler bar. It’s as good as you thought, and then some. (621 characters)

Watch out for old beer!!!
Great place, huge selection and decent prices, I'll definitely be back. But I was stunned by the number of expired beers I saw. Saw multiple variety 12 packs that were 9-12 months old. I wouldn't trust anything that doesn't have a date on the bottle. Unless you're looking for an aged barleywine, etc. (328 characters)

Just returned from a road trip State Line and I have to admit, it really is a damn fine outlet! The staff were very helpful, they had everything I was looking for except 22oz Torpedo, which they had run out of and one of the guys actually apologized for having done so. Their web site is accurate, they have a ton of beers and a bunch of taps in the back. In all, it was well worth the 90 minute drive! Dropped $135 and came away feeling like a total winner. (458 characters)

I do a lot of travel around the country for work and play, and make it a point to hit beer stores every where I go. This store is the gold standard, and while it might sound homerish, I've yet to find its equivalent or better. This includes highly rated stores in the biggest beer markets/cities. If it's distributed to MD, Stateline will get it. Prices are reasonable to great when you catch items on sale--say during Belgium beer month, or during tap takeovers. Adding a growler station with a nice selection of 20 taps is just icing on the cake. Frankly, Stateline has ruined other stores for me: b/c of how great of a store it is, and how frequent I shop there, it's rare that I'll walk out of a store and be impressed overall. But I'll keep trying! (753 characters)

This is what it's all about. This is easily the best beer shop that's within an hour's drive of me, if not the best on the east coast, if not the best outside of John's in Portland. There's plenty here to satisfy any discriminating beer enthusiast. I was in the area and just stopped in to check the place out, and before I knew it, I was $50 in the hole...and that was me showing some restraint. Not only is the beer selection great, they also have a nice rack filled with glassware. As a rampant collector, of course there was really nothing I haven't seen before, but to the beginner or even intermediate collector, the selection of glass was pretty impressive. There's also a growler filling station near the back.

The staff was friendly and helpful, and at least two people asked if I needed help while I was there, so I'm sure they are pretty knowledgeable as well. Prices are about right all around.

This place is definitely worth checking out if you find yourself within a reasonable distance. I live about 45 minutes away, and I dare say I'll be going back soon enough. (1,080 characters)

Didn't look like much from outside, but wowzers, don't judge. The beer selection is HUGE, and you can purchase singles of EVERYTHING. Service was fantastic and extremely helpful, both over the phone and in store. Only bummer is their online inventory was wrong (no Sam Adams doppelbock in stock). They even have what appeared to be a bar or growler set up in the back. I drove 2 hours round trip to go, and it may be worth the trip again, great selection at reasonable prices. (476 characters)

After catching wind of SLL about a year and a half ago, with one visit I was hooked. As you've often seen mentioned in the reviews, outward impressions are highly deceiving! Once inside, the options are dizzying. Add to the fact that there is now a growler fill station, and you have icing on the cake. Of course you have your wines and spirits too if need be, but you came here for the beers, and trust me, there are plenty! Definitely my-go to around my region, even if it's a longer drive. I can generally cross off most of my at the moment checklist upon visiting here (and usually a few I didn't know I wanted until I got there!). They're well organized, and reasonably priced. The staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and willing to go the extra mile for you. One thing I have noticed is that there are some beers that tend to linger on the shelves here, and while not generally a problem (you'll see 'discount' displays from time to time), it does pay to check bottle dates sometimes if you see something that interests you, especially for something International that may not age so gracefully... That's just a minor quibble though in what is ultimately an A+ experience! (1,180 characters)

State line Liquors is about a mile from I-95 in Maryland. exit 109B of I-95 Stop here to get beers I can not get in NJ. IT is worth the trip. Plus if I go early in the morning, I can stop at the Waffle House for breakfast. same Exit except it off 109A.

theirs selection is great. this was my second trip here. I don't know the place was bigger in the back with more selections. think I spent over 30 minutes just looking to fill a six pack of single beers. If you join their club card program you can get a discount. my recent trip I saved 5% on my six pack and 10% on my single's bottle purchase. They also had a glower filling station. they had 20 beers on tap. I wish I lived closer.

The service was great help find my six packs I was looking for. and check out was fast and friendly. (789 characters)

Making this my new stop every time I ride into Philly. Best selection I've ever seen at a bottle shop, and the coolest part is you can take singles out of any package and buy them alone. If they distribute it in Maryland you can find it here.

The growler selection is awesome and cheap, 5 dollars for a 64 oz growler and I filled it with old Rasputin for 10 dollars.

Staff was super attentive and helpful. I asked if they had more of a certain item and a staff member came back 1 minute later with what I wanted no hesitation. (529 characters)

This place is awesome! They have an amazing selection of craft brews as well as imports. The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you get inside you are blown away. Granted anything is an upgrade from the stores in DE, because of distribution, but this place is my favorite. They have 20 taps to fill your growlers. The service is top notch and all the employees are eager to help you, if you need it. I highly recommend making a trip to State Line. They also have their inventory on their website and typically it is very accurate, if a price is listed for an item, that generally means they have it in stock. (629 characters)

Do not judge this book by it’s cover. Looks like your typical local liquor store from the outside, but inside this place is a gem. The selection is huge. Beer is somewhat organized by country. Has a great selection of American craft breweries and has the best import selection I’ve seen. Lots of meads as well if that is your thing. I knew what I was looking for, but they had a lot of people on staff and I was asked several times if I needed any help. The staff was very friendly and are happy to just talk beer if they aren’t too busy. Prices are reasonable and the free discount club takes an extra 10-15% off of everything as a great bonus. Definitely a bottle shop I wish I had in my backyard. I try to make the 2 1/2-3 hour round trip down from Central PA at least 2 or 3 times a year. (798 characters)

Robert, you have quite a place. My one friend took me here because he was shopping for kegs and other essential items that only State Line can provide at a steal. I highly recommend visiting this venue if you have an opportunity to do so. You can explore this place for a couple of hours and you still won't uncover everything.

Thanks goes out to Robert and the staff for such a great experience. (397 characters)

From the road, you would never know what a gem this place is. Looks like a small warehouse, but when you walk in you are greated by coolers, a domestic craft section and a huge import craft section. If you are into import crafts, their selection is tough to top. The domestic craft section is solid and has a pretty good local selection as well. The staff is knowledgable and is willing to reserve or order something you may be looking for. The e-mail list provides a discount that makes the prices very affordable. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. (563 characters)

Wow! All I can say is this place blew me away compared to what I've seen so far.

A: Moments after I walked in a staff member was walking by and asked if I was looking for anything in particular or if I needed help. Everyone else seemed super friendly.

Q: LOTS of great quality stuff, shelves were pretty nicely organized and arranged.

S: Service was amazing. Two of the gentlemen that worked there were more than happy to answer my questions since it was my first time there. Super friendly, quick to answer my questions, and knew what they were talking about. Also had another guy ask if I was looking for something in particular and if he could help in any way. (Maybe it's because I'm a girl, or maybe it's because I looked lost due to the large selection - who knows? Haha.)

S: Really large selection with a lot of domestic and import beers. Found things that I've only seen at either World of Beer (in Arlington) or in Germany. I was impressed with the selection.

F: N/A

V: If you join the discount club you get a few bucks off. I got $5 off a sixer and a 750ml. Not much, but I was happy. (1,101 characters)

I am overdue for place reviews particularly bottle shops, and it seemed I better start with this one first.

State line at first glance looks like a typical run of the mill keg store from the outside. However, once you enter you notice a very vast selection.

Coming from the Washington DC area the prices here are very reasonable, in fact they are a down right bargain. There's lots of local offerings and when it comes to the US craft section there is a fairly good choice, but also many things that you can get elsewhere.

Where the place really shines though, is the imports to the right, where many people dont seem to be shopping. What is particularly exceptional is the Belgian selection. There were many Belgian beers here that I have never even seen anywhere else in my shopping travels all over the US, it is very extensive. Also there were quite a few things here that normal beer geeks would easily snatch up. To come here is probably a bit out of the way, so lots of these things sit here. I am still kicking myself for not picking up Biscotti Break.

Finally the last thing is the service. I had staff come up to me constantly asking if I needed help or if they could look for something for me. I have all my tools in hand so, luckily I was good. Finally then, they carry it all out to my car. How great is that.

The place is really worth going to once in awhile to find many different brews to try, even if it is truly out and remote. (1,450 characters)

Was planning a trip to Virginia from NJ and this just happened to be on the way (literally a 1 minute detour off the highway). When I pulled up I was skeptical but don't judge this book by it's cover. Enormous selection of breweries both import and domestic. Belgian section is stupid huge. American selection of bombers, warms sixpacks, cold sixpacksm, seasonals. Basically anything that is available in Maryland you will find here. I scored some Elysian pumpkin seasonal Bombers, Firestone DDBA, New Belgium Lips of Faith limited releases and some Goose Island Juliet. Nothing super super rare (or there may have been and it had been picked over), but just a deep immense inventory. American craft beer at it's finest. Prices seemed on point. There was also some wine and cheese and foodie stuff but I wasn't interested as I was distracted by the immense beer lineup. BONUS: The checkout lady offered to sign me up for a email list and got me 10% off, had no idea, she was like do you want 10% off I said, sure! (1,013 characters)

What I'm going to say is pretty much along the same lines as everyone else. The building itself isn't anything to get excited about. It's dated and not exactly attractive, the shelves look like former supermarket shelving. You know what? Who cares! This place has an amazing selection. There are a few other nearby stores that have a decent selection and it is a much nicer and newer property. But, I pass them every time to get to this place. The real downside to Stateline...the time and money you will end up spending in there. I don't think I've been able to go in for any less than 30 minutes.

The man in charge of beer in this store, Robert, is there quite a bit and willing to talk to anyone with an interest in beer. Even the young stock boys have some decent knowledge. Additionally, if they aren't stocking a shelf, they are at the register boxing your beers and offering to carry it to the car for you. Nice touch.

1.Get a membership. You can do that right at the register when you leave. It's free and it will save most/all of the sales tax.

2. Don't forget that they have an area in the rear of the store (past all the wines) where you can buy several different types of glassware. (1,206 characters)
