Carlsberg Lager pours to a yellow/straw color with a nose that is sweet and a little bit fruity. A good pour produces a fair amount of foam, but it fizzles away quickly and the carbonation is only moderate.
Moving to the taste, this import beer offers flavors of light, pale malt, a little bit of citrus, cereal grains, herbs, and a little bit of mineral water. A distinctly grassy character is noticeable at every sip and there is a small amount of skunkiness, but not enough to matter.
Carlsberg Lager is very similar to other mass- produced lagers from Europe. Its color, aroma, and other components of its appearance are not much better than the other beer products made in the Netherlands, Australia, and other places for mass distribution. That is to say, this beer is somewhat lackluster in both appearance and taste and there isn’t really anything special about it, even if it is slightly better than the mass- produced swill made in America.
One factor I was worried about when I first sampled this beer was the influence of the green bottles. I was concerned that the green glass would make the beer very skunky and undrinkable but thankfully, this is not the case. Yes, there is some skunkiness, but it is minimal overall
All and all, I consider Carlsberg Lager a very average beer with some good qualities of smoothness, crispness, and drinkability, but also some not so good qualities, namely its boring and forgettable character. It all sums up to a beer that isvery middle of the road overall.
