750 ml bottle.

Ive tried some beers from Jacobsen so far, and they are usually quite good. Saaz Blonde was, however, a little disappointment. The smell wasnt bad - some sweet malt, lemon (some notes of lemoncurd?), some spices, grassy hops - but I did find it a bit weak and thin. Same for the taste - sweet malt, lemon, spices and grassy hops, but somewhat thin, and a little too much sweet malt, I think. On the other hand, Im not an expert on this style and perhaps its the style that I dont like that much rather than the beer.

Appearance - good golden copper pour. Quite the foamer, two fingers of white crispy head spring up but fall back about as fast.

Aroma - a spicy, hoppy sniff. The grains are fresh, the hops are zesty. Nice, but they fade quickly after the pour.

Taste - a sweet graininess, like a pilsner, but no hop bite, or very little. Some for balance but that's about it. A touch soapy at length and an occasional wisp of abv. Reminds me of a helles lager, amped up a bit.

Mouthfeel - average crispness, a note of smoothness.

Drinkability - a pretty decent session beer. Nothing fancy, well hidden abv for the most part.

It isn't often that I find a beer in my area that I haven't seen anywhere else on the shelves. I would like to thank the folks who run "The Cellar" liquor distributor in El Sobrante, CA. I know you don't do a lot of beer sells at your store anymore but this beer was a great find. Saaz blonde has a dark honey color with a nice foaming head. It has a balmy vanilla character with a strong dose of esters. There is a great variety of smells in this beer ranging from a malted bread to a nice banana smell. Right on the tip of my nose I get a spicy character which really beckons me. The taste is great. I taste apple peel with a slight orange citrus lemon flavor. There is a good assortment of fresh Czech hops. The malt characteristics are what really dominate. If you are fan of Belgian style beer you will enjoy this unique Ale. The malts are vanilla and bready. The taste is clean and crisp. I like the way the beer taste is my mouth. It might be a little hard to stomach for some who might prefer a lighter less malted beer. I would have even like it if I could taste more of the "Saaz" rather than the typical Belgian qualities. Nonetheless, I wish this beer was more widely available as I would buy it frequently. Great job Carlsberg.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine May 2007.

Looks like Carlsberg is going right after the beer connoisseur crowd with their Jacobsen brand. The Saaz Blonde is modeled after the Belgian Strong Pale Ales. Sugar syrup and spices are added to this brew.

Quick formation of foam off of a hefty pour, the three-fingers-deep head drops to a semi-stick lace. Perfect clarity and a shimmering copper color. Intermingling of light phenols and spices with biscuity grain in the aroma--very Belgian. Moderate body with a fluffy crispness. Spiciness hits first with a bite of clove and some underlying coriander. Saaz hops play well with the clove as the flavors fuse together. Suggestions of black pepper and ripe pears. Big kernel of maltiness in the middle, which quickly clears to a faint, medicinal phenol and a lingering spice flavor in a dry finish.

Delicious. While this is not an exotic Belgian beer from a small brewery that no one has ever heard of, it ends up being a very flavorful rendition of the Belgian Strong Pale Ale style. Throw this one at some grilled game meat, like venison or wild boar, with roasted root vegetables.

A very clear, dark golden colour. Not to foamy though, still have an okey head.

Very "Saazy" on the nose, even if it´s not a very hopy beer. Good maltaromas with a topnote of latex. Also getting a hint of lemon aswell.

A long lasting aftertaste, but the taste is not half as interesting as the nose. The maltcomponent is very clear, but it does not feel very lively.

All in all this is not a bad beer, especially coming from Carlsberg and massproduced. Good enough for a hot summer day!

750 ml bottle.

Pours a bright amber/orange, not to blonde. It has a tall foamy white head that quickly recedes with no lacing.

The smell is pretty standard. It has a slight gruit scent along with some malt sweetness and a pinch of saaz, I dk how old this bottle is but the hops have faded a bit.

The taste has alot of gruit flavor, with some light malt and hops. The yeast brings a ton of banana flavor.

It is hard to describe this beer, it is a pretty average blonde ale.

Fun bottle poured into a tulip glass.

A- It poured a 2-finger, off-white (light khaki) head. The body was a clean, gold-amber with tiny, abundant carbonation. The head drops to a full lace leaving decent sticky spots.

S- Initially, there was a fruitiness (rapsberry?). Some sour apple, a little vanilla, spicy/peppery hops, and a light caramel all come through. There was also a pleasant mustyness. It could have all been a touch stronger, overall.

T- It was fairly complex. Some crisp, Granny Smith and berry-like fruit mixed with a variety of spice (including black pepper).

M- Tight carbonation, well hidden alcohol, and a crisp/dry feel from start to finish make for a pleasant mouthfeel. There was the slightest of tingle.

D- It's a very easy drinker considering the ABV. Good flavor, great value (paid 2.99 for a 750 ml on sale). I'd drink it again.

Overall- It's like a lighter version of a Belgain Strong Pale Ale. If you're looking for some heft, or a nightcap, this might not be your beer. If you want something with a kick that isn't going to overwhelm you, go for it.

Appearance - The beer poured dark amber with fair head retention and leaves spotty lacing.

Smell - This brew smells of yeast and subtle malts. Very simple and light.

Taste - Surprisingly the flavors of malts and yeast are nicely balanced from start to finish. Leaving me with enough time to enjoy my meal before my next sip.

Mouthfeel - This beer is light in body and the flavors which are apparent do not linger unnecessarily like other brews.

Drinkability - The drinkability of this brew is high and I would definitely have this again on a cool summer afternoon.

Poured into an oversize wine glass.

A: Pours a clear light amber, with a half finger of bubbly white head. The head disappears for the most part, but leaves a few patches. Not much lacing.

S: Light citrusy fruits, with a sweet malt background.

T: Like the nose, with a mild hop bitterness combined with a bit of sweetness. Fairly light but balanced. Not much alcohol taste.

M: Quite a bit of carbonation, light mouthfeel, a little bit of crispness.

D: Drinks quite easily, though the ABV is just high enough to need to watch out for it.

Poured a pale amber/deep gold with a good beige head -- lots of bubbles. No real lacing.

Scent is a mixed bag. You get some yeast, some alcohol/chemical scents, some sweet fruit, and a macro boiled grain edge. Not really that appealing.

Taste is better than scent. Yeast, some chemical alcohol, white pepper spice, some light fruitiness and a very mild bitterness in the finish. Flavors are present but muted. Overall, just ok with what is presented and the intensity of flavors.

This one has some decent body and some ever-present carbonation.

Overall, this one went down fairly easy. Not something I'd grab all of the time, as it has some flaws. This one didn't come out of my fridge, so I can't even comment on if it is worth the money. An ok representation of the style, with a lean toward the big mass-produced side of the brewing industry.

750 ml brown bottle. Best before 2009/06/08.

A- Pale amber. Good effervescence. Weak off-white head.

S- Pale malt with a hint of caramel. Faint straw taste and a touch of floral hops. A bit of grapiness.

T- Flash of bitterness towards the finish. A littler too much on the sweet side. Decent but ordinary.

MF- Smooth. Medium bodied. A touch drying on the mouth at teh finish but wet/watery up front.

D- Easy to drink. Bit of an alcohol kick. Not bad overall.

A - Poured an amber color with floating particles. (I strongly believe that if a beer is going to have sediment, the brewery should label it on the bottle) huge cream-colored head that diminished very quickly.

S - Yeasty and macro brew smelling. The real killer in the smell department is the fact that it immediately smelled like Testors model paint. Wtf?

T - It's got a light, crisp flavor with a bit of hoppiness. Tiny bitter hints. The malty sweetness overwhelms. The 7.2% disappears completely.

M - Crisp and light mouthfeel. Very smooth.

D - At 7.2% this guy can get the party rolling but don't expect a whole lot from the other departments.

Reading the label was very disappointing. Glucose syrup as a main ingredient? The adding of pure sugar could explain the high alcohol percent and lack of great flavors. :/

Out of a bottle this brew was a copper color with a big, two and a half finger head of khaki bubbles. Lots of rising carbonation and good clarity. The aroma was very macro-like, like MGD on steroids, grains and alcohol. The flavors were much better and revealed this ones true character (a Belgian Strong Pale Ale, not a Blonde). Well balanced herbal hops and pale malt with some fruity yeast and a light spiciness. The fruit finish was nice. The mouthfeel was a bit rough due to a higher carbonation of the medium body. Not bad but the 7.1% was pretty well hidden.

One of my first reviews, so its probably not very good, but here it is anyways.

Cool bottle! Dark amber color, not much head.
smells... like a pilsner?

Has the white blonde taste, but has a tone of a beligium style. Imediate pilsner-esque, taste followed by the belgium notes. Taste ends dry with little pale ale after taste. very clean
bell curve of taste... pale ale to belgium back to pale ale.
