A - Fairly deep shade of woody brown, almost pitch with a 1/4 inch of opaque colored head.
S - Smells fairly hoppy, maybe a touch faded with a bit of roasted malts and chalky yeasts.
T - A bit more herbal than I expected but fairly balanced. some hoppy bitterness, then roast, then it even sticks to the palate after the sip. No chemical taste which is good. Not bad.
M - Fairly smooth somewhat chewy a great bodied black IPA.
Overall quite a tasty black IPA, worth seeking out!

Pours black with brown edges and a frothy khaki head that settles to a thick cap, leaving lots of soapy lacing. Aromas of bitter roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and strong pine resin and grapefruit hops. Really pleasant smelling Black IPA. Taste is spot-on with the nose, a nice balance between the roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee and the resinous hops. Finish is pleasantly bitter, with contributions from both the chocolate malt and the hops. Mouthfeel is smooth and fairly creamy, with a medium body and good carbonation. Overall a really nice Black IPA that holds it's own with some of the top examples of the style.

This appears to be the newest addition to their bottled line-up. Picked up a sixer in Glens Falls today. Poured bottle into a tulip.

Probably more brown than black, really big off-white head. Leaves some super lacing. Still some carbonation visible in the beer. This is really a great looking beer.

Smells like roasty chocolate and dank citrus/pine.

Nice roasted character jumps out--smooth, lightly bittersweet chocolate and coffee notes. Faint burnt caramel. Nice balance of citrus/pine hops. They flavors mesh well. This could be hoppier, but I'm loving the malt bill.

Mouthfeel on the lighter side of medium, perfect amount of carbonation.

This is a very tasty beer, and a super easy drinker that still packs a lot of flavor. Once again, I'm impressed with an Adirondack Pub and Brewery bottled offering. I wish the brewpub was a little closer to me, because I'd go there much more often.

Served from a tap in a pint glass at the Log Jam restaurant in Lake George. A 1-finger, thick head formed, then left a thin foamy covering. Good, sticky lacing. Beer was dark, but clear and rich mahogany colored in the light.

The smell is very hops-forward with piney and floral notes. Also aromas of toasted caramel malts wafted up. Very nice fragrance.

Tasted of toasted bread right off the bat with some great dry hops filling in shortly after. There was a nice well-balanced toasted malt touch to balance out the dryness with some light sweet flavors. Almost a hint of raspberries or cranberries on the finish.

This is a full-bodied beer that doesn't overpower. It has a nice even-keeled texture with a smooth, dry finish.

This is a highly drinkable beer, even with the robust look and likely high abv. It's got great flavor that does not kick you in the teeth. The balance and multi-dimensional character makes this beer one to order more of.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a thin, filmy, light tan surface coating. Aromas of charcoal, resiny, bitter hops, and some rich, sweet tropical fruit presence. Flavors of roast coffee in the forefront, with a touch of smoke highlighting and a deep, resiny hops presence. Light bodied and effervescent. There are some tangy touches of grapefruit and other tropical fruits at the tail end of the palate. Roasty and bitter aftertaste, with a peppery spicing. Quick, slightly filmy finish. Very strong flavored brew. Very decent.

A- Pours a near pitch black with a very delicate and light tan, 2 1/2 finger head. This brew leaves some of the stickiest lacing I've ever seen clinging onto a glass! Ruby highlights when held to the light.

S- Charcoal roasted malts and a bright orange zest hoppiness. I find Dark IPA's so unusual. It's not that I don't enjoy them, but can only pick 2 smells out of them... citrus and charred malt. No hints of caramel, yeast, wet hay, spices like most other IPA's. It's just two in your face types of smells. Burnt and fruity. It's not really horrible, just underwhelming IMHO.

T- Tastes like O.J. and Grapefruit juice that was charcoal filtered. Taste is just like the smell... a shit ton of citrusy hops, and burnt malts. No balance, nothing hidden underneath waiting for the tongue to find. To me Black IPA's are just an assault on the sences, but I do enjoy them every now and again.

M- Bitter citrus and overdone grains. Not bad, just kinda boring. You would think that with this kind of malt flavor, it would be a bit thicker.

O- Certainly not my favorite style. Black IPA's are kinda boring. I do enjoy it now and again, but it's just so overdone and underwhelming. Nothing but citrus and fired malt. Not sure I'm gonna grab this one again unless I'm charring meat and citrus on the BBQ.

A: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Body appears black, but when backlit it's more brown, with mahogany hues on the edges. Small khaki-colored head on top, leaves behind some lace.

S: Nice - I get both the roasty characteristics of the malt and juicy (citrusy) hops. That's what I really like about this style, when done right - the combination of hops and malt, both of which are fairly aggressive, yet neither one taking a back seat to the other.

T: Pretty much follows the nose. Starts off like a roasty porter, with roasted barley malt, a hint of dark chocolate and a touch of charcoal. That's followed up with the hops - citrus and pine, with pine needles and resin lingering into the aftertaste, a nice compliment to the roasty characteristics. Originally checked off a score of 4 for the taste, but as I work my way down the glass, I'm bumping it up.

M: Carbonation is fizzy but not overly prickly. Body is medium in heft, but as I find with many porters, it drinks a little lighter.

O: Good stuff. Doesn't meet the characteristics I prefer for the perfect American Black Ale - I like chocolate malt to be stronger - but it's quite good. Reminds me of some hoppy imperial porters I've had. Good stuff.

Enjoyed in a pint glass

A: pours a clear deep brown with a ton of carbonation bubbles, the most Ive seen to the best of my memory, pours with two fingers of nice fluffy light tan colored head that lingers really nicely and leaves a ton of creamy lacing on the glass
S: very nice and fresh floral hop notes and a nice backing of malts, quite inviting
T: begins with the nice floral hops then kicks into the beautiful smokey malts which give way to a lingering taste of the floral malts, really a great taste progression, quite delicious, possibly my favorite for the style
M: gentle carbonation tingle in the forefront then gives way to a silky texture which leaves a nice silky feeling on the palate, also leaves the palate just slightly dry as evidenced by the beautiful hop character
O: really an incredible representation of the style, i haven't had a beer by these folks that i didn't thoroughly enjoy, this one is right up there with their Iroquois pale ale as their best offering to date

A: dark brown; with a moderate pour, got a 3 finger tan head that receded slowly and unevenly; moderate lacing;

S: caramel malt and roasted grain; a little restrained;

T: mocha that morphed quickly to bittersweet chocolate that morphed quickly to smoky coffee that stayed through the finish; moderate bitterness;

M: sticky; medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: a little too much coffee for me and not enough hop flavor or aroma;
