This is a scotch ale aged in Jack Daniels barrels and bottled on-site at the brewpub. I bought it at the bar, and it could be a recurring thing, or once-only.
A: Poured dark chocolate/ruby from a 12oz. bottle into a chalice. A small ecru head left quickly, and there was very little lacing.
S: Strong notes of dried cranberries and prunes, vanilla, toasted caramel malts, and a touch of bitter cooking chocolate.
T: Deep, rich, and packing a punch, this is a beer to really consider. Up-front maltiness yields to smooth vanilla and dry chocolate as it passes over your tongue, leaving you with a slightly boozy, craisin taste in your mouth. Strong notes of burnt caramel, dried dark fruit, with a beautiful creamy vanilla backbone, and a touch of toasted oakiness. The booze gives it a little hotness, but doesn't overpower or detract: it just lets you know to sip slowly.
M: Smooth and just a bit creamy, this beer goes down easy, leaves a nice robust imprint in your mouth, and doesn't ruin your tastebuds for dinner. An overall pleasant beer to have in your mouth.
O: I know JD barrels aren't the easiest things to come by, but this should go into regular rotation up at the Adirondack Pub and Brewery. It reminds me of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, only with a bit more substance on the feel, and some more complexity in its character. Delicious!

Fat Scotsman Aged in Jack Daniels Barrels. Brew pub only release. Probably near 10.5-11.5% ABV.
A- Pours a deep cocoa brown with nice cherry red highlights into my Bruery tulip. A tiny kahki head fades rather quickly, but leaves nice bits of lacing behind.
S- Rich with dried fruit (cherries, figs, raisins), vanilla, bourbon, maple syrup, toasted wood and malts, dark bitter chocolate, caramel candy, and marshmallow. This is really decadent and gets better as it warms up.
T- An astounding bouquet of flavors dance on the tongue... vanilla, charred oak, figs, dried cherries dipped in belgian dark chocolate. You pick up a touch of the Jack Daniels, but it never detracks, just enhances the wonderful flavors.
M- Medium thick, a touch sweet and creamy. The dried fruit adds just enough tartness, and the barrel aging adds some charred oak, and alcohol that opens the palate.
O- This is absoulutely brilliant by my estimation. This little brew pub just keeps getting better and more creative all the time. At 17.99/4-pack, its a little steep... but well worth it!!! If you're ever in Lake George, NY, stop by and give this a try!
