Dark Brown Burgundy Shade.

Delicate nose but the aromas are there if you wait a while.

The head really drops off and it didn't rise like a number of the Belgian brews do.

It's not harsh on the aftertaste and has a nutty sort of fruit cake like taste a bit like a sweet pudding.

I don't mind it often you'll get a heavy alcoholic beer but the alcohol content overweights the flavour.

Less than six bucks for a 750 ml bottle. Pours a deep red into my stemmed glass. Nice one inch head over the top but not dripping. Very thick foam with ridges. Smells like ripe pears and cranberries with the esters coming through. Taste is pretty good but the alcohol overtakes the dark fruits malts and yeast. Mouth fell is fine fairly medium and the head hangs around. Overall a decent amber strong Belgian but not as complex as some other ones that are out there.

330ml bottle poured in its own chalice

A: Deep reddish brown color with a big and aired beige head which dissipates quickly leaving some lacings
S: Very fruity. Reminded me grapes, mainly. Bready. Caramel malts. Belgium yeasts and spices. Alcohol can be also felt in the end
T: Sweet upfront. Like the nose: Notes of grapes and dark fruits. Caramel malts, oak, Belgium yeasts and alcohol in the end. Discreet bitterness
M: Heavy body and low carbonation. Discreet bitterness and alcoholic end
D: Good but a bit heavy

Keizer Karel onsale at my local liqorstore, together with it's blond buddy, for 0.5 euro per 33 cl bottle. That's cheap for strong ale :).
I hope it's worth it.

Look is reddish brown, with creamy full head
Smell is bready and malty, for a dark ale. Also a bit of fruits, but not much from the orange peel that's announced on the label.
Taste is bittersweet and also roasted sugar, with a spicy bite.
Finish is a bit dry.

This beer is ok, but not so special. Lets say: in this style there are so many fine examples of brewing, I'm afraid this particular Keizer is in over his head.
