Appearance - Looks like apple juice with little carbonation and with a big foamy head with good retention that leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell - Flowers, yeast, sweet malt.

Taste - Spices, yeast, cloves and a little sweetness. A bit weak taste. ABV isn't noticable at all...

Mouthfeel - Quite thin and dry with fitting carbonation.

Had a bottle in Ghent. Ugh, this beer is bad. It tastes like they used way too much adjunct. It starts with a thin dry bite like you'd get in a cheap macro lager. The beer can't recover from this and is undrinkable for the most part. Disappointing after the Keizer Red. Avoid this beer.

A-Clear yellow-golden color with decent head and retention.

S-Sweet malt and wheat, spice and Belgian yeast, and on a couple whiffs I got what I believe to be a hint of plastic chlorophenol.

T&M-Sweet with fresh malt and spice, sweetness lingering even through the slightly dry finish. Everything is dandy until the finish, which is sweet and reminiscent of the boozed-up euro strong lagers. Not sure if there are adjuncts. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and carbonation is just right.

D-I really enjoyed this beer, which is overall a good one, but there are a few minor things that detract from the drinking experience, albeit nowhere near the point of ruining it.

Bought for 0.5 euro on sale in my local liqor store. I liked this one.

Nice looking beer. Golden, clear with floaty bits, good creamy head. Not much carbonation though.

Very nice smell on this, a bit like hefeweissen. malty and fruity, with a lot of herbs, cloves and koriander, etc.

Taste is bitter hoppy and herby from cloves again. Malts and bread, dry finish.

This Keizer Karel is a lot better than the red one. It's herby character is strong, not allways seen in this style.

My wife and I have had this many times over years, in those four handled and then three handled mugs and nowadays the glass. This write up is from a 33cl bottle opened in the lovely and hidden away bar called Belleman, in Brugge on 1st Feb 2014. The Belleman's beer list may not be huge, but it's worth getting out the centre of Brugge and having a slow relaxing beer in a quiet bar now and again, it's ideal for that.

Pours a golden colour with a pure white crown of bubbles that tried to hang around.

The aroma is a blend of yeastiness, light malts and floral hop notes, with a mild fruitiness for good measure.

It is a little sweeter than the nose suggests, but this isn't a proper sweet beer, there is plenty of hop content to prevent the malts taking over completely. It's in fact a nice mixture of flavours similar to the aromas and most enjoyable. It isn't going to blow your socks off with anything different or strong, but it's easy to drink and a very pleasant respite from some of Belgium's heavy hitters: which is why we often have one when out on a mission in Brugge or the Belgian coast.

Pale gold color, fruity nose reminiscent of wheat beers. Mouth fairly strong spice, it also feels keys corn and grain and a touch of sweet malt. The spicy, something rare enough to be underlined, is authentic and enjoyable. Round despite substantial power.

Pours to a nice golden color, with a medium head. Drank this in the Duvel tulip glass, with a chicken dinner. Best attribute is probably the aroma, fruity and strong, but not overpowering.

It feels good in the mouth, and goes down easily. The taste is less offensive than it is inspiring, but an easy drinking beer.

8.5% 33cl bottle into a chalice

"Charles V. born in Ghent, Belgium in 1500 was a devoted beer lover. This top fermented beer has a spicy aroma and a well rounded flavor."

Contains an antioxidant?

A: Robust bright golden yellow, fast bubbles with medium lacing and a thick head with mid range retention, not much unlike my beloved French man, this beer has character.

S: I smell a man holding corn. Literally there is a hand cream smell that later racked my mind as a mystery scent trying random words like: wool, cologne, musk. Settled accepting it as a spice and floral, "spice of man".

T: Warms as it slides down the throat, filling all the right places his strong body is biting and then gently honeyed into a malt/corn finish.

M: Beautifully light in body with the high alcohol content, a soft touch of that cologne stickiness

O: I had to turn the label around as I finished my notes becuase the man's face was staring right at me, he is pressuring me to say goo things. I compare this to a Delirium Tremens that has been roughed around an axe commericial. He has balls with the high alcohol content, looking to knock a ladies socks off, classy in his approach though, covered in dry malt, spice and packing a delicate hand full of flowers behind his back. Wonderful as all his ways are, his cousin holds much the same appeal without all the grain texture and alcoholic lures but missing the subtle fruit of his family line also makes him a rogue and his charming herby spice is too much to ignore. Handsome beer, ruggedly handsome.

Pours a clean yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, a tart fruitiness and a presence of a barnyard. In the taste, dry yeast, earthy and a hint of tart fruit. A tart bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry yeasty and small fruit presence in the aftertaste. Almost saison like and really hides the ABV well.

Pours an almost overly clear boring yellow, but with an amazing white airy head that leaves alot of amazing looking dry lacing on the glass!

Smells of fruits and slight sweet malt, apples come to mind, and a really appearent yeast note quenching at the back.

Taste is actually really weak, the flavours here are not really reflecting the ABV, even though the ABV itself isnt noticeable, a bit strange, might be the yeast though, as it is slightly overpowering all throughout the taste.

An okay feel, but nothing special.

Decent start to the head but it leaves an excellent coating of lace on the glass. Gold color and very clear.

Well-balanced high hop aroma with a malt smell that has no sweetness.

The flavor has a strong Belgian yeast element. Like the smell, the malt flavors are dry. The finish is hoppy. The alcohol content is notable but as the last contributing flavor. The body is slightly thin.
