660ml green bottle. Bavaria Footed Lager glass. Pale gold color, crystal clear appearance. White froth, close & slowly dissipated crown. Slight sulfurous aromas, hints of honey, grainy & floral notes rounded by very subtle spicy, low DMS odors. Sweet & malty upfront followed by gentle earthy bitterness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Well balanced malts & hops in the middle lingers into a dried finish. Sweet herbal hues on the aftertaste. Nice spot of the Dortmünder Style!!

Sampling right now on 1/31/14. 330ml (11.2 oz.) bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a classic pilsner flute.

Pours a clear yellow with a super thin white head. Some spotty lacing was seen. The aroma is of grassy malts mostly with a light sweet candy detection as well. A light 'slunky' smell was noted, which is COMMON from beers in green bottle for some reason. The taste is slightly watered-down and thin with the malt coming through mostly. No bitter or harsh finish though. Overall, I thought it was a decent brew.

A: Light Golden Color. Two finger head.

S: Very faint wheat smell.

T: A watered down wheat taste. Not a very deep taste. The after taste is the same as the initial taste.

M: Medium carbonation. Very light on the tongue.

O: I'm not impressed by the "Beer of world fame." It's not bad don't get me wrong. It's better than most domestic beers but the taste leaves something to be desired.

Appearance: Pale, ginger-ale colored; very effervescent; big foamy head

Aroma: Citrusy; grassy; slight hops

Taste: Light bodied; hoppy with metallic aftertaste; slight bitterness lingers; grassy notes at end

Remarks: Drank too warm in Poland; no refrigerator; probably a little skunky due to green bottle

Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

330ml bottle poured into a 16oz pint glass.

A - Pours an average pale lager yellow with a fizzy white head and lots of carbonation on the glass.

S - Pretty typical lager. Barley can be made out, with a nice bready base to it. A touch of grassy hops can be made out as well. Simple but unoffensive.

T - Starts out alright, with some barley malt and bready notes, but quickly gives way to green-bottle-skunk and some mild grassy hops. Finishes a little stale and musty. Metallic aftertaste lingers. Not pleasant.

M - Thin body, bordering on watery. Overdone carbonation. While not good, in the end it's pretty typical of the style. A light, peculiar film builds up on my tongue from it as well.

D - While the green bottle certainly played a role in me not enjoying this beer, I can't imagine it was all that spectacular to begin with. Skunked or not, this a sub-par for even a lager. Musty and stale, and basically devoid of any flavor other than skunk. Oh well.

(Served in a fluted strange)

A- This beer pours a straw yellow body with a touch of haze and a creamy white foam that you could write your name in. There is a sea of microbubbles swirling around in the body.

S- The clean slightly sweet aroma of green sulfur has a flint note to it and some freshly crushed pils malt comes through in the finish and grows.

T- The fresh pils malt flavor has hints of honey malt and a dry finish with a slightly sweet sulfur green hop flavor that lingers only for a moment.

M- This beer has a light crisp mouthfeel with a tight fizz.

O- Even though I describe it as sweet, it is not. There is just enough sweetness to mellow the sulfur and give the malt that fresh flavor. This is very easy to drink by the liter.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Pours a clear golden color with a solid one inch white head that dissipates quickly into a thin half layer of foam.

Grain, corn, and malty sweetness dominate the aroma, which finishes with a pilsner cracker-like scent.

Flavor is comprised of slightly sweet, bready malt, with a bit of skunky flavor leading into a fairly dry finish. The balance is decidedly malty, but there's a peppery note that cleans up the profile.

Body is moderate, with slightly more than moderate carbonation. There's a bit of slickness and a touch of astringency.

Overall, I don't have much experience with the style, but there appears to be a bit of a skunky, light-struck character to it. Malt is a bit forward, with some adjunct flavors and a fair representation of hops to keep it interesting.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass after consuming another beer from this brewery.

Dab Original has a amber color with some lighter spots here and there. Alot of rising bubbles create a nice looking tan but unsturdy head that fades into some small patches. No lacing from this. The smell consists of grain, barley hops and some earthy hops. The hops come out in taste a bit more with a nice sweet malt backdrop and light floral arrangements. Some bisquits in the middle with yeast taste finishing it out. The feel is light crisp and refreshing on this hot day, A bit of a bite from the carb and some hop taste sticks on the tounge a bit. All in all a beer I would grab if I needed a beer.

Poured from a green bottle. Label is boring and really doesn't ask you to drink it.

A: Clear golden straw color. Short white head.

S: Sweet malt, bready, and slightly floral.

T: Well balanced combination of malt and hops. Water/barley/hops/yeast.

M: Crisp, smooth, mild carbonation, medium to light body.

O: Nice hop flavor in the finish. Easy to drink. Not a lot to this one.

11.2 fl oz, poured into a tall pilsner glass.

The AFC Championship Game just started, so I figured it's not too early to have and review a beer. And away we go...

A: It looks like a pilsner; golden color, wheat-colored head (very small) that does not last. Bubbles kind of like champagne.

S: I get the expected hops, wheat, grass, and some extra little earthiness. It's nice.

T: All that I smelled is confirmed, and a slight hint of lemon or grapefruit; I'm leaning grapefruit, as the polls would indicate. Nothing overpowering, the proportions are good.

M: It's good, not outstanding. For its type, it's actually very good. It's well-carbonated, washes over the palate well, and leaves a slightly hoppy, somewhat pruny aftertaste.

O: Good drinking beer; you can have a few of these bad boys while watching your favorite sporting event, or shoveling snow, or before a power nap. Cheers.

Straw yellow after being poured into a tulip from a longneck bottle. Thin head, quickly dissipating. Smells clearly grainy, some rice evident. Very crisp and flavorful. I paired it with dutch cheese and it did very well. Perfect amount of hopping makes it a well balanced brew. Very nice lager.

impressive for such a basic export lager. looks great with super lacing and a longstanding head...smell is the least impressive with a hint of cereal/rice...at least none of that american adjunct corn smell. the taste is what makes it with a refreshing hint of grain and a lingering, not too dry finish of hops. bittersweet in a most desirable way. rolls on the tongue smooth and luscious enough. not thin. what a bargain! enjoy it quickly though since it camps out in green bottles...

A - Clear pale yellow with a steady stream of tiny bubbles contributing to a fairly nonexistent head with no lacing to speak of.

S - Sweet barley backed by that light struck quality that we all fear, but this one isn't all that bad. Finally, a nice wash of hops brings the nose back around.

T - Plenty of barley at first that gives way to hop bitterness and finishes with a cross up of mineral water and a slightly metallic taste.

M - Thin, watery and not much aftertaste on this highly carbonated beer.

O - I didn't have that bad of a time without this at all, and would welcome a glass of this on draught, but I fear the bottled and shipped version lacks a little.

What a great lager. Clean, crisp. Subtle. The aroma and taste a just barely hoppy. This can go with any food. You could drink them all day and neither tire of them or get overloaded.

This is what a simple light lager should be. It is something I should seek out for repeats and to have on hand for when something stronger is too much.

Look: Very little head (saw nothing coming, poured more aggressive, still nothing really), light godl (about a 5 SRM), good lacing, good carb can be seen.

Smell: Malt strong, a little wheaty smelling, floral, a little clean tangerine and grapefruit smell.

Taste: Malty, Wheaty, Biscuit, a lazy hop bitter that comes after a while. Good carb, not overbearing. Body is well, light but not watery.

Final Thoughts: It's not bad compared to the AAL. I would thank anyone kindly for this one if they handed it to me at a AAL kind of party, bbq, whatever. While I don't like the style, this one is decent and acceptable.

I bought a Mix & Match 6-pack at Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI for $8.99.

Pours a very clear plae yellow color and a white head of foam that sticks around til about the first sip and that's it. With it's green bottle and scent, it reminds me a lot of Heineken. The scent hints at cheap grassy grains. Taste is rather bland and light in texture. You get a little grain taste but that's about it. Rather simple finish as well. Something new to try but that's about all.

Pours gold/amber wtih a large fading head.
Nose shows hay and light malt with a hint of floral hops. Very light on.
Similar flavours but even fainter. Lots more straw/hay flavours.
Carbonation could be higher.
Pretty boring... I seem to remember this having more honey notes last time round...

Poured from an 11.2 fl oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: As expected, light golden to yellow color with relatively thin white head.

Smell: Metallic Euro lager smell. Grassy aroma.

Taste: About as plain as you can get. Buttery flavor, no strong hop note. Nothing offensive, just nothing that stands out. Certainly refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, not a lot of carbonation. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall: I like this beer in a sense that it seems to stay true to its purpose (whatever that means). Not quite as dry as a standard German pils, not quite as hoppy as a Czech pilsner, and not quite as sweet/malty as Munich Helles, it seems to strike a nice balance.

Appearance: Golden yellow color. Got about a finger of head, which died down in less than a minute to a partial ring of bubbles. A little lacing left on the glass.

Smell: Yeasty, bready malt aroma. A little skunk, appropriate to the style and not enought to be objectionable.

Taste: Hello, hops. Nice, big hops bite right up front. Some malt sweetness later, followed by a bitter aftertaste. Hope flavors are balanced well.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, with plenty of palate-scrubbing carbonation. Crisp, dry finish.

Overall: Very drinkable dortmunder lager. Seems to me to be a good example of the style. This is a beer that I will come back to when wanting a German lager.

Found a semi-local carrying this old standby import from the days before the Micro-Boom®. Decent price too at $12 a 12 pack.

Green bottle from a covered 12 pack, indecipherable codes on the label.

A -- Clear, pale straw gold with a firm, dense white head that settles slowly.

S -- Hmm, somewhat sulfury, yeasty nose (which is common to the style), but not much else -- but maybe the vaguest DMS. More sweet, bready malt with warmth.

T -- Light, bready malts with a firm bitterness as a backbone, finishing with spicy hops and the lingering bitterness in the aftertaste.

M -- Body is light to light-medium with a dry, crisp mouthfeel.

O -- I want to like this beer -- whether from nostalgia or the fact that I have 10 more bottles I can't say, but there seems to be something rather lacking compared with other imports and fresher Micros of the same style.

This beer pours a clear, gold color which opens for an aroma of citrus and dough. The flavor is citrus fruit, grassy hops and some vanilla sweetness from the malt. It's got a medium mouthfeel and is quite drinkable. Dortmunder DAB Original is an okay beer, recommended.

No dates of any kind on the bottle.

A thick white foam of consistent bubble size leaves thick laces over a perfectly bright yellow liquid.

Graham cracker, biscuit and grain aroma. Not strong. Clean; no esters. Mineral/metallic taste that's an artifact of the local water supply. Very dry. Medium bitterness. This pour might be old; it had a bit of cardboard flavor.

Mouthfeel was of medium to high carbonation, medium to light body, but yet still warming. Small hop bite on the finish. Some drying in the aftertaste.

The malt is slightly more powerful than the hops and the water is minerally enough to leave its own taste in the mix. Uncomplicated, one-dimensional, but refreshing.

This is a great exemplar of this style, I'm just not sure this deserves its own category, and probably wouldn't earn it if it were new today.

330 mL bottle at 42 degrees into a pint glass.

A: It pours a golden-copper color with a finger of pure-white head that falls quickly and doesn't lace at all. It looks like a Euro Pale Lager.

S: Sweet corn, grass, light citrus, and very light hoppiness. It smells like a Euro Pale Lager.

T: Metallic flavors open with grass and a little wet grain. It tastes like a Euro Pale Lager.

M: It has a light body with medium-high carbonation and a quick and mostly pain-free finish. It feels like a Euro Pale Lager.

O: I'm convinced that this is a typical Euro Pale Lager. My first dortmunder was Ayinger Jahrhundertbier and it was MUCH better than this crap.
