look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: Pours a hazy pale golden color with a decent though not spectacular cap; leaves a smattering of lace, however

Smell: Cracked wheat, banana bread and a hint of lemon

Taste: Opens with a cracked wheat and banana flavor, with just a hint of lemony sourness that arrives by mid-palate; past is prologue and the finish is much the same as the opening

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Not knowing enough about the Austrian style, I would describe this as an entry hefe - not as rich in flavor or carbonation as its German cousins, and rather devoid of any clove aspect; still, this is easy to drink and very enjoyable (657 characters)

Foggy goldenrod. The sun (although nothing less bright) is visible on the other side of the glass. It looks like the semi-firm, cumulus cloud white cap will last for a bit due to the slow, steady carbonation striking its underside. Lace, for the moment at least, is limited to a short collar; a testament to the persistence of the head. This is a good looking hefe.

Every one of the classic hefe weizen characteristics is noted in the nose: soft, lightly tangy wheat; abundant banana and just a pinch of clove. I especially like the enthusiastic banana esters. I hope they're at least as prominent on the palate.

Jorger Weisse is a good version of the style, no ifs, ands or buts. It may not be a taste bud saturating flavor bomb, but then few hefes are. There's a perfect amount of sour wheaty tang (mild-moderate) to go along with a bittersweetness that slightly favors bitter over sweet. All in all, the balance means that this is a beer that should appeal to a wide range of people.

Sugared banana isn't quite as upfront as the nose suggested, although it's still considerable. After several sips, I've decided to grant a 3.5/5.0 on my hefe weizen banan-o-meter. I have no interest in using a clove-o-meter for my hefe reviews, but this one could use a bit more spice. A more aggressive yeast strain would benefit what is already a wonderful beer.

The flavor doesn't last as long as it might due to a body that fails to hold its structure through the finish. I hestitate to use the word watery, but a little more heft, a little more viscosity would do wonders. The carbonation is both fine and subdued.

Jorger Weisse may be a lighter sort of hefe weizen, but it's also decently bananarific, well-balanced and ridiculously drinkable. If you think that only Germans can brew successfully in this style, think again meinen freunde. (1,847 characters)

Not a style I go to often but for something to put down after work with a little substance this does the trick. My first Austrian weisse beer that I have had to my knowledge, this pours into a large weisse/weizen glass a mix of lemonade and tea with a smaller than expected head that was gone quite quickly. As others have noted lemon is the dominant aroma with some iron and slight clove as well.Flavors are somewhat clean for the style but damn refreshing, lemony with underlying clove and a hint of vanilla but its light on the palate. Now if this was the middle of July here in NC instead of October this would be a helluva backyard beer,as is its a nice thirst quencher. (670 characters)

A hefe on a beautiful spring day, this review is set up for maximum success...

Pours an effervescent & semi-hazed straw color with 4 fingers of cream colored head. Hazes even more as the bottle is drained, above average lacing & head retention

S: Breadyness, bubblegum, & cloves

T: Follows the nose, plus lemons & appleskins up front. Juicy, bready & grainy as this warms along with more apple peels & cloves. Finishes grainy, bready & fruitty, with a nice juicy fruit twang

MF: Medium bodied, bubbly & slightly grainy & juicy

Drinkability is great, a nice quencher that hits all the right hefe notes (606 characters)

This "bier-specialitaten", this "whitebeer-weissbier" disengages it's vessel and fills the weizen glass pale yellow iun appearance, very hazed, a big, plumpwhite head that dies down with a quickness. A mess of bubbles crowds the side of the glass.

Sweet nose, muted banana/clove, perhaps more spice than fruit, but with an enchanting yeasty smell. And then a hit of bubblegum.

Taste stands fully on the side of "average"...nothing sticks out, stands forward or in any way asserts itself. Some soft citrus, mild yeasty character, tiny twange of wheat, minor banana-y notes, pillowy, no sharp edges at all in this.

And, I have to admit it, dull. Needs a lot more spark, some zest and zing.

Drinkable, but in no way shape or form is this a beer I'd recommend to anyone, especially anyone who wants to try out an excellent example of the style. No, sir, this is not that. (880 characters)

Mid sized German style bottle, w/o freshness info. Pours clouded medium tangarine, under a medium off white head, just a smudge and another smidge of lace on the glass.

Bananas, oranges and wheaty goodness in the nose.

More bananas, mild orange and a hint of clove carry the freight, thoroughly enjoyable wheat. Mild, smooth and moderatly flavorful. Decent levels of carbonation and body, easy drinking nothing unbelievable but worth a try (441 characters)

This pours a hazy, glowing yellow/gold. Bubbles rise quickly forming a strong, semi-dense head. Citrus and corriander exude from the glass. Spicey and crisp.
Not a complex flavor, but very nice. Citrus and corriander follow from the nose and hit the palate with a crips splash. A bit sweet, like a watery lemondrop. Good yeast and biscuit tones mixed in.
Again, crisp and refreshing. A nice beer drank in the winter, but should have been sampled in the summer. (460 characters)

Cloudy gold colored beer, no way can you see through this one. Small white head.

Smell is sweet with about equal amounts of both clove and banana in the scent. Lesser scent of cinnamon and bruised banana.

Starts out sweet with a strong clove and banana ice cream flavor. Milder flavor than the smell, it starts out clove and finishes banana and bubblegum with every taste.

Mouthfeel is good.

Good drinkability, it is a little on the mild side but I could see drinking this all day in the summer. (500 characters)

Pours a cloudy, maize color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and poor lacing. Smells of grain, pale malt, and slight wheat. Barely fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight wheat, slight pale malt, hint of citrus, and slight grain. Overall, no single feature is above average. Decent Hefe at best. (398 characters)

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a cloudy pale orange straw, thin white head that dissipates to a ring around the glass., no lacing. Aroma of wheat with an odd vegetable component, light malt. Flavor is wheat, light lemon, faint spicing. Somewhat sour with a very low key, somewhat watery finish. Light bodied with active carbonation. Hefeweizen element all there, but attenuated. A satisfactory, but uninspiring hefeweizen. (429 characters)

Poured into 10oz glass. Poured a very hazy yellow with just a thin cap of white head that had low retention and no lacing.

The aroma was nicely wheaty with a bit of banana and clove. The flavors were a bit more well defined than the aroma and was also fairly typical.

The body was crisp, clean and fresh. Drinkability was very good, the pint bottle went down very easily. Overall, a nice brew. Worth trying if you see it. (423 characters)

A: Poured a bright, hazy lemon-orange color with a solid, foamy white head that left a moderate lacing. Small peppery floaties lingered about.

S: a big fruity aroma, full of fresh lemons, bananas, cloves, and some bubblegum.

T: The initial flavor was creamy bananas, with a spicy yeast tingle, complimented by fresh fruit, apples, pears and a spicy hoppiness. Some dry oranges and coriander are detected in the finish.

M: creamy in texture, light in nature bearing a good fruitiness of spicy oranges.

D: Very good drinkability per style, would highly recommend this. (573 characters)

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: pale silvery-gold hue with a moderate but attractive haze. Plenty of effervescence and three fingers of frothy white foam. Nice.

Smell: refreshing wheaty malt aroma with notes of citrus. Nothing really in the way of clove or banana, however, which is a little disappointing. Still, a relatively nice-smelling beer.

Taste: wheaty malt flavor with a touch of graininess and a little citrus. Again, not particularly fruity or complex, but a solid little beer.

Mouthfeel: pretty light texture with a moderate level of carbonation. Not terrible, but I'm not particularly impressed.

Overall: this beer is decent but to me not particularly to-style. There are many other European hefeweizens that I'd rather have over Grieskirchner. That said, it's not horrible or anything. (830 characters)

Poured from 16.9oz bottle(room temp) a hazy straw colour with a medium sized head of foam that dissipates slowly but stays for the entire session.

The smell is very wheaty and there's the strong nose of cloves. Pretty inviting.

The taste has an abundance of clove, banana, and wheat flavour but it's not overpowering....it's actually quite smooth and enjoyable.
The more I sip, the more I appreciate how the different "tastes" within this Hefe work so well together making for some pretty darned good drinkability. Yes...this will be one of my staples this coming summer season.!

Bottom line: Excellent Hefe with super smooth yet tasty taste.
I recommend it! (670 characters)

1 pint .9 fluid oz bottle.

Appearance-Pours a bright white, tow finger with alright retention. Leaves a bit of foam on the glass with each sip. Colro was a pale and cloudy mix of banana and lemon peel yellow. Good consistant lacing.

Smell- The best smelling weizen I've ever had so far. Cloves, bubble gum, bananas, and fluffy crystal malts.

Taste- If any could understand whta this great weizen tastes like. It is more of an intangible sensation than ny traditional flavor profile. It reminds me of walking along the White River in Arkansas in late Spring. Lots of natural earthy water mixed with sunshine. That sounds terribly cheesy, but I think this is the best tasting weizen I've ever had. Alos noted some light grapefruit, Big League Chew, and the taste of lemon peels.

Mouthfeel- A good watery palate. Starts out crisp and citrusy and ends grassy clean.

This beer went very well with mamas homemade meatloaf with garlic cloves put in the loaf with some McIllhenny Green Jalepeno Tabasco sauce. (1,020 characters)

A: Poured from a bottle to a weizen glass. Had a yellowish-brown color and a cloudy consistency. A decent amount of sediment. Not as much head or lacing as you might find with other beers of the style.

S: Smelled of wheat, banana and that bubble gum quality.

T: Like the smell, taste consisted of wheat, banana and bubble in the finish. Good, but not great.

M: Pretty well carbonated beer with a very dry finish. Medium-bodied.

D: While this is a solid beer, it doesn't distinguish itself from other hefeweizens. Still, a drinkable beer. (542 characters)

Poured a cloudy gold with good head and had a decent citric smell with hints of spice. Light and smooth, had a lil bit of spice and lemon zest, along with citric hops in the taste but was rather just average in the taste dept. Went down easy and is a good summer beer but nothing exceptional. (292 characters)

Little hazyness, orange color. White foam, not too much, and not too long. Quite carbonated.
At the smell cloves, over all. Then yeast and banana. Quite balanced.
Even the taste is pleasant and balanced. Sweetie, but not boring. Yeast, cloves. Quite drinkable.
Cloves in the aftertaste, too, and banana, but here again, sweet but not too much.
Quite low body.
After all, quite pleasant. (391 characters)

Just finished off a nine mile run....err jog...and nothing replenishes like a good hefe and this is a good hefe.

Excellent banana characteristics on the nose...mashed bananas...banana pudding..

The taste takes on more of a banana bread type of flavor...yeasty...bready...bananany...also some cloves on the taste and a spritz of lemon....almost exactly how I like my hefe's to taste.

Not a bundle of carbonation...more creamy textured...

Great Hefe...Made is Austria but as good as most german Hefe's... (506 characters)

500mL bottle poured into a hefe glass.

(A)- Pours a hazy goldenrod yellow color. Produced a solid foamy pure white head. Solid retention behind it. Some lacing.

(S)- Lots of dry biscuit and lemon rind. Some mild earthy yeast.

(T)- Similar to the smell. A dry biscuit and lemon profile. The earthy yeast is alot more potent than in the aroma.

(M)- A good crisp carbonation level. Smooth and mellow with good wheat and fruit, though the yeast is very heavy in this.

(D)- A good Hefe. A bit heavy on the yeast, but its still crisp and refreshing. (548 characters)

Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a white head. In the aroma mellow sweet lemon citrus. In the taste, a crisp bite to a smooth wheat flavor and some lemon citrus underneath it all. A small bite, but mainly smooth with a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a lightly dry lemon citrus in the aftertaste. Mellow and rounded, with some nice lemon flavors. (347 characters)

On tap at the Map Room.

Pours cloudy yellow with a white head--pretty standard for the style.

Smells of bananas, black peppers, and cloves. Nice profile, with the sweetness of the fruit balanced by wheatmalt spice.

Tastes, thankfully, like it smells: big nanners, black pepper. Flavors aren't quite as intense as the aroma led me to anticipate, but the palate is still nicely composed.

Not all that much to say, here. A very nice but somewhat lightly flavored hefe. (471 characters)

Pours hazy golden orange with a modest white creamy head. No spectacular billowing hefe foam here. Aroma is rather citrusy with accents of banana and spices. Flavor is like a sweet hefe mixed with a splash of Sprite. Lemon lime tartness, banana pith, orange oil. The lime note is off-putting and doesn't fit at all. Mouthfeel is a little thin. (343 characters)

Pours a hazy dirty straw color with a white hazy throughout very much like a witbier. Beautiful creamy pure white head settles into a solid cap. The aroma is of light banana and clove, light grain and lemon tartness. The taste is of wheat malt, banana creme pie, some raw spice, perhaps a touch of coriander. Not sure what it is but there is a different flavor, a bit of a creamy funk. The feel is moderate with soft carbonation; finishes slightly tart and dry. Seems like a different spin on your traditional bavarian hefeweizen. Seems to have a touch of the belgian wit characteristics to it. Not bad, different, worth a try. (627 characters)
