A - pours a very couldy, hazy straw yellow with not too much of a head

S - lemon and citrus with some nice banana and a touch of clove

T - the taste follows the nose pretty closely. It starts with a nice banana flavor, which is the predominant taste throughout. The banana blends with spices and a bit of clove, but not as much as the nose suggested would be in there. Nice weissbier flavors going on in here.

M - the mouth is nicely carbonated and medium bodied. Pretty solid.

D - This is a nice example of a Weissier. This is my first Austrian example, but it closely follows its neighbor's taste characteristics. I took down the bomber on a hot, sticky afternoon so the drinkability was outstanding in my book. This hit the spot.

Appearance: Nice strong gold/brass coloring with an impressive head that lasts for a while. Minimal beligian lacing after the head dissapates.

Aroma: A bit of a banana smell, followed by a strong, nearly skunky odor. Not pleasant.

Taste: A hit of bitterness right up front followed quickly by the banana again on the taste buds, with the finale of heavy wheat and barley. Pretty nice, and not what I expected after the aroma.

Mouthfeel: Average. PLays nice on the palate, without being too zippy nor too weak.

Drinkability: Do not be dissuaded by the awful aroma, the beer's bite is better than it's bark.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a cloudy pale orange straw, thin white head that dissipates to a ring around the glass., no lacing. Aroma of wheat with an odd vegetable component, light malt. Flavor is wheat, light lemon, faint spicing. Somewhat sour with a very low key, somewhat watery finish. Light bodied with active carbonation. Hefeweizen element all there, but attenuated. A satisfactory, but uninspiring hefeweizen.

A- 16oz bottle poured into a wheat glass. Beer pours golden, with a 1-finger head which quickly settles to nearly nothing. No lacing to speak of.

S- Classic hefeweizen aroma, complete with bananas, clove, and underlying sweetness.

T- Good hefeweizen taste, bananas and clove present. I can't help but feel, though, that this beer tastes a little watered down. It may just be because it doesn't have the same crisp finish as other hefeweizens.

M- Thin, and not very well carbonated.

D- A subtle flavor profile and low abv make this a very sessionable brew, especially considering that I got it for 1.49/16oz at the local Whole Foods.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: pale silvery-gold hue with a moderate but attractive haze. Plenty of effervescence and three fingers of frothy white foam. Nice.

Smell: refreshing wheaty malt aroma with notes of citrus. Nothing really in the way of clove or banana, however, which is a little disappointing. Still, a relatively nice-smelling beer.

Taste: wheaty malt flavor with a touch of graininess and a little citrus. Again, not particularly fruity or complex, but a solid little beer.

Mouthfeel: pretty light texture with a moderate level of carbonation. Not terrible, but I'm not particularly impressed.

Overall: this beer is decent but to me not particularly to-style. There are many other European hefeweizens that I'd rather have over Grieskirchner. That said, it's not horrible or anything.

500ml tall bottle with a plain and simple label of the brewery crest and a drawing of the small Austrian town where Jörger is brewed. The back label has the US Government warning and a production number of 010700 L10. I have no idea what that even means. It's more than likely something only the brewery understands.

Appearance: When poured into a Weizen glass (why not?), ol' Jörger is a hazy and pale lemon yellow color. On top of this pale lemon colored beer was a creamy 1 inch head of white foam. This head of foam had really good retention that left behind a small creamy white film, one mustache of white lace, and few spots here and there. This Hefeweizen's appearance was nothing out of the ordianary, but there was nothng wrong with it.

Smell: While some Hefeweizen's are heavy on the scent of banana, this Hefe was the one of the ones that was heavy on the malted wheat. Behind the malted wheat was a dash of nutmeg, a few cloves, a hint of banana, a small whiff of spice bread at the end. That was good, but sometimes the banana mixed in with the spice bread. Talk about a nice aroma when those two combined.

Taste: After the solid appearance and aroma, the taste was a bit of a let down. This Hefe was light and crispy like it should be, but this hefe was overly carbonated which coused the carbonation to cover up most of the flavors. Even without the carbonation, the taste was nothing to write home about. The taste was average with malted wheat, a pinch of cloves, a hint of sweet banana, a dash of nutmeg, and a subtle touch of cinnamon at the finish.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel was light and crispy with a nice little aftertaste of yeast, malted wheat, and few cloves. The yeast had to show up somewhere and it decided to show up in the aftertaste only.

Drinkability: While the taste was average, everything else about this beer was above average. It's funny how some beers work out. Chalk this Hefeweizen up for another summer time session beer.

This "bier-specialitaten", this "whitebeer-weissbier" disengages it's vessel and fills the weizen glass pale yellow iun appearance, very hazed, a big, plumpwhite head that dies down with a quickness. A mess of bubbles crowds the side of the glass.

Sweet nose, muted banana/clove, perhaps more spice than fruit, but with an enchanting yeasty smell. And then a hit of bubblegum.

Taste stands fully on the side of "average"...nothing sticks out, stands forward or in any way asserts itself. Some soft citrus, mild yeasty character, tiny twange of wheat, minor banana-y notes, pillowy, no sharp edges at all in this.

And, I have to admit it, dull. Needs a lot more spark, some zest and zing.

Drinkable, but in no way shape or form is this a beer I'd recommend to anyone, especially anyone who wants to try out an excellent example of the style. No, sir, this is not that.

I picked this one up in my local distributor. 500ml bottle. It was the price that attracted me and it seemed of good heritage.

Hazy, cloudy and yellow gold is the first introduction to this hefe. The head makes an appearance and then quickly dissipates. Lots of sediment in the bottom.

The smell is clove, citrus and some honey note. Not anything surprising nor disappointing. The scent is certainly not bad, good in fact, just not anything extraordinary.

The taste is refreshing with hints of banana here as well.

A good summer drink to have on hand as the mouth feel and drinkability are both light and satisfying for a hot afternoon.

500mL bottle poured into a hefe glass.

(A)- Pours a hazy goldenrod yellow color. Produced a solid foamy pure white head. Solid retention behind it. Some lacing.

(S)- Lots of dry biscuit and lemon rind. Some mild earthy yeast.

(T)- Similar to the smell. A dry biscuit and lemon profile. The earthy yeast is alot more potent than in the aroma.

(M)- A good crisp carbonation level. Smooth and mellow with good wheat and fruit, though the yeast is very heavy in this.

(D)- A good Hefe. A bit heavy on the yeast, but its still crisp and refreshing.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into weizen glass.

A - Pale yellow, with expected cloudiness. Creamy 2 finger head settles fairly quickly to a thick collar, leaves behind some lacing.

S - Mild banana aroma, with a hint of something citrusy and vinegar-like. Pleasing but very faint.

T - Decent, but weak. Powdery yeast character mingles with a mild sourness and citric flavor from the wheat. Finish is chalky but otherwise clean.

M - Carbonation is moderate with an almost creamy body.

D - Although a bit on the tasteless side for a hefeweizen, it's certainly drinkable without any overwhelming flavors.

Twelve ounce bottle from the BOMC poured into a German Wiehenstephan glass.

A: Cloudy murky yellow (lots of yeast action), creamy head and lots of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

S: Some musky hay and grass aromas.

T: Lemony flavor up front, with hay, grass and wheat notes. Not picking up any banana yeast flavors that I would normally expect for this style, although there's certainly a bit of spiciness.

M: Creamy, well carbonated, and light bodied. Beer finishes with more lemony flavor than anything else.

D: Brewery has been around for 300 years plus, so I guess they know what they are doing, but this beer had just a little too much sweet lemony flavor for me. I enjoyed their Pils much more than this selection.

About 3/4 of the bottle in the glass and all is clear, golden straw yellow with a egg shell white cap.
Aroma is attractive with fruity yeast and a nice amount of spices.
Taste doesn't come off as strong as the aroma, light spices and clean wheat flavors do what they can but end up staying pretty hushed. Easy to drink this would probally be more enjoyable during the summer months then during our cold winter.

Jörger Weisse

A- Bright, yet clear orange, with no head and a good heavy bubbly carbonation..
S- Sweet honey, spices, and lemons.
T- Again, sweet honey and lemon really comes through with a wheat and straw flavor. Slight peppery clove spiciness lightly touches your tongue.
M- Although very watery the subtle flavors come through mid-way and push a spicy finish on you.

Overall- Sure its a little bland but for an "average" beer this is a simple tasting, refreshing and easy quaffing. Only $1.99? Could'nt pass that up!?

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a clear, almost hazy yellow color until I shake up the yeast. Now it's orangey with lots of haze and a frothy creamy head with nice retention. Aroma is really muted. Just a pinch of lemon peel and a little bit of sugarcane. Taste is vey light. Not my cup of tea here. Ulta refreshing but tastes like fresca mixed with lemon juice. Has too much carbonation and leaves the mouth tingling. Drinkability is great in hot weather but this is more of a summer beer than a year round drinker. Easy to put down but lacks the complexity some the other German hefeweizens have.

Picture forthcoming.

Pours a cloudy straw color with almost no head. Carbonation bubbles are large and prolific - very fizzy.

Aroma is understated, but what is there is banana and light sourdough bread.

Taste is watery and muted. The yeast is evident, there is bread and banana and I daresay some pepper and clove - but it's barely there. Very club-soda-esque.

Mouthfeel is fizzy and watery, a bit peppery on the back of the tongue. Drinkable on a hot day for sure, but just didn't have the depth of taste that I enjoy in a good witbier.

A: Cloudy light brown, very little head even with an agressive pour. That's slightly worrying.

S: Heavy on the malts

T: Malts, and a little banana flavor. Actually quite nice tasting.

M: Medium body, not a lot going on otherwise. Very little carbonation. Kind of flat.

O: An average weizen. It would be much better if it had proper carbonation.

Pale straw in color, semi-cloudy, thin white head drops quickly to a ring. Wheaty, grassy, bready aroma, with some lemony zest to it. Not too complex. The first thing I noticed in the taste was grainy. Freah wheat is fine in a good hefe, but this was the generic grainy taste. A little banana/clove flavor, a little kind of sparkling zesty-ness like lemon. Easy to drink, but this one is a snoozer. BORING! If I was from Austria, I would be pissed off that this beer represents my country somewhere, just like I am pissed off Budwieser represents the US in other countries.

Appearance: a pale cloudy yellow color with small head. Looks kind of thin and watery around the rim and bottom of the glass. Not to much lacing and small ring of foam remains at the top of the glass.

Smell: smells of wheat and fruit, mostly banana and some lemons. Not really much to mention! This brew is fairly light in complexion and smell.

Taste: taste has banana and wheat flavor, although kind of thin overall. Also their is just a small pinch of cloves or spice that slides across the tounge. This seems to be a lighter version of a Hefe Weizen for me. Body is average and goes down pertty smooth. I keep picking up a watery aftertaste that is filled with a off spiced banana taste.

This brew is nothing to brag about but it has its moments, to say the least.

Beer of the month selection
Poured a cloudy straw yellow with a white fluffy head dissipated into a ring.
Aroma of malt, spice and lemon.
Taste of wheat, yeast with some spice ending with a hint of lemon.
Light body, moderate carbonation and very creamy.
A drinkable beer, however, it is a little sweeter than most Hefeweizens that I enjoy.
