I found this Austrian weiss to be on par with a lot of the German weiss I have had, really solid with a bit less carbonation. A good bit cheaper than it's German counterparts as well. Just discovered it at a market 20 or so miles away, might have to go back and clean out their stock. Give it a shot if you find it.

Pours cloudy, straw yellow with a bright white, foamy head.
Aromas of straw, red berries, banana and tropical fruit.
Slighly sweet with flavors of berries and buttered bread.
Lingering butteriness in mouthfeel, slightly chewy and frothy.
I don't know what to expect from an Austrian wheat beer, but you will like this if you like witbiers.

Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a white head. In the aroma mellow sweet lemon citrus. In the taste, a crisp bite to a smooth wheat flavor and some lemon citrus underneath it all. A small bite, but mainly smooth with a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a lightly dry lemon citrus in the aftertaste. Mellow and rounded, with some nice lemon flavors.

1 pint 0.9 fl oz bottle, no apparent bottled on date present, production number 101100 L12. A hefeweizen that I've never heard of before, imported by Wein-Bauer, out of Franklin Park, IL, not far from where I live. My label is different than the beer pictured, and says only Grieskirchner Weisse. Expectations are low, as this isn't my favorite style to begin with.

Poured into a Shock Top hefeweizen glass.

A - Pours just over a finger of bone white foamy head on top of a murky yellow lemonade colored body. Looks even paler than I was expecting. Lots of bubbles streaming to the surface. Head dies down quickly.

S - Nose is comprised of earthy grains, malts, & wheat, some lemon and citric qualities, and some spicy cloves. Also has a sort of musty, adjunct type aroma.

T - Body is crisply carbonated, and lightly bodied, with a sweet earthy corn husk flavor paired with subtle spice and citrus notes. To me, it tastes similar to some of the imported lagers I have tried from India. Sweet apple juice in the finish, which could be attributed to some sort of hop presence, and maybe just a tad of metallic copper presence.

M - Crisp, clean, light. Some watery corn husk type flavor remains behind.

Overall, much better than what I was expecting, but more akin to a lager than it is a legitimate white beer. People looking for a nice weissbier will probably walk away disappointed, but those who enjoy a better lager than BMC swill will find some enjoyment to be had from this one. And at under three dollars for a bottle of imported Austrian beer, I guess you can't really go wrong.

A big fluffy mess of a weizen head sits sturdily on a dirty lemonade beer for massive cloudiness. Even got that mushroom effect of the head as the rim of the glass pinched the foam like tight pants over sloppy love handles.

Spicy clove, husked wheat grain, and yellow banana. Peppery quality is pertinent to describe the spiciness of this brew. White bread and crusts. Nice hefe nose.

Big clove notes and banana peel and a touch of pink peppercorn. The banana is slightly green in flavor with light pithy bitterness that might actually be a hop presence. Very mild maltiness that sings with big white bread doughiness. Alcohol is present, also. Following the nose, this is quite the spicy hefeweizen!

Wet, soppy mouthfeel with soft carbonation and milk-thick body. Sits kind of heavy, but a bright booze life makes this a decent little winter night starter brew.

Loved finding this in the bottleshop tonight! It's not summer, but I can still enjoy a new hefe! And, this one was a pleaser!
