A: This beer has a milky white, smooth looking head about a thumbs width thick, that stands for a very long time. Lacing is like a candle melting on glass, coating every side evenly. The color is an orange akin to apple cider, and the clarity is rather opaque. I don't see too much carbonation in the glass.

S: It has a slightly floral and fruity aroma. The floral boutique is like lavender, the fruity aroma is similar to light bananas and honeydew melon. There is a slight aroma of pungency, which smells of a German variety Noble hop.

T: I get a very mellow banana flavored taste, along with what tastes similar to sweet cream. The after-taste leaves some very extremely gentle flavor of the hops.

M: The mouthfeel is very light, but zesty with bubbles. It coats the mouth very nicely. It's not perfection, but very near.

O: Overall I would rate this as a good beer. It's not quite the best, and I'm willing to bet it would be straight 5.0's if it was a draft in a bar in Austria. I can taste that it's not quite perfect, but I would pick this one up off the shelf again in a heartbeat.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: pale silvery-gold hue with a moderate but attractive haze. Plenty of effervescence and three fingers of frothy white foam. Nice.

Smell: refreshing wheaty malt aroma with notes of citrus. Nothing really in the way of clove or banana, however, which is a little disappointing. Still, a relatively nice-smelling beer.

Taste: wheaty malt flavor with a touch of graininess and a little citrus. Again, not particularly fruity or complex, but a solid little beer.

Mouthfeel: pretty light texture with a moderate level of carbonation. Not terrible, but I'm not particularly impressed.

Overall: this beer is decent but to me not particularly to-style. There are many other European hefeweizens that I'd rather have over Grieskirchner. That said, it's not horrible or anything.

Poured into a large Chimay glass, this is a golden-orange colored beer with a modest head. The aroma is excellent: lots of clove phenols, delicious bubblegum fruitiness. The flavor mirrors this, making for a great hefe. The emphasis on the phenolic particularly delights me. The yeast delivers some really nice peppery character. Fruitiness is not quite as strong, but present. Bitterness is a touch higher than, say, Franziskaaner. The only downside to this beer is the lack of carbonation. Given some carbon effervescence, I might well have rated this 4.5 across the board.

Very drinkable and tasty.

Poured a 500ml bottle into my Hennepin globe.

This beer pours a hazy straw with a decent 3 inch head that quickly dissipates into a quarter inch sitting in the middle of the glass. Very little lacing as the beer disappears. Unfortunately, the first aroma is the off aroma that you get from light struck hops. Smells like a Heiny that has been sitting on the shelf under florescent lights for a bit to long. Underneath what we call the green bottle funk, is a nice wheat twang, that I think would be a bit more prevalent if it was a fresher bottle. Around that is some nice banana esters and just a hint of clove. What I would assume would be the typical hefe aroma profile (minus the bubblegum). The flavor falls a bit flatter. The wheaty twang comes off a little less tart, the banana a little less banana and no clove whatsoever. What does come up seems almost like confectionery sugar. The mouthfeel is average. A little creamy finishing with just a hint of dryness. Overall, I don't know if this a mediocre bottle or just a old beer (cant make out the lot number could be 05/09) but it just falls flat.

500ml into a snifter...pours a light cloudy body with a decent fizzy head. Could be brighter. Aroma has some wheat sharpness, but not overpowering and some funk from the yeast. I tend to like both of these characteristics to be more 'up front' with this style. Malt profile is clean and well-balanced. Really easy and smooth drinker. Good value too, coming in at about 1/3 the price of Weihenstephaner, which I consider a standard-bearer of this style. Will get this one again.

Had a 1pt+0.9oz bottle

Appearance: A cloudy Pale tan. Rich head with some lacing. Soft.

Smell: A scent lemons and yeasty bread. Some other scent i cant name.

Taste: Starts with a rich biscuit flavor dieing into a sweet lemon zing. Flavor then fades in a natural grassy type taste. Earthly.

Feel: The fizz I feel could be less. Sips feel light, masked by carbonation. This beer is actually rich and heavy.

Overall: Starts with a grand presentation and does not disappoint. Flavors are rich and earthly. I love a beer where you can almost taste the dirt. Heavy in feel. Stuff like this reminds me of how European beers are superior.

500mL bottle poured into a hefe glass.

(A)- Pours a hazy goldenrod yellow color. Produced a solid foamy pure white head. Solid retention behind it. Some lacing.

(S)- Lots of dry biscuit and lemon rind. Some mild earthy yeast.

(T)- Similar to the smell. A dry biscuit and lemon profile. The earthy yeast is alot more potent than in the aroma.

(M)- A good crisp carbonation level. Smooth and mellow with good wheat and fruit, though the yeast is very heavy in this.

(D)- A good Hefe. A bit heavy on the yeast, but its still crisp and refreshing.

A- A very murky light orange liquid that has a bit of a gray aspect to it. The little head that there is settles to a few splotches and a ring around the edge. Not too shabby.

S- Bananas, clove, white bread, and a touch of strawberries. Pretty standard but at the same time well done.

T- Bananas, clove, and white bread with a pretty mild finish... maybe a touch of a mineraly aspect.

M- Very creamy with a nice carbonation presence. It definitely leaves a nice yeasty coating to the mouth on the finish.

D- A decent take on the style, drinks really nice on a sunny spring evening.

Poured into 10oz glass. Poured a very hazy yellow with just a thin cap of white head that had low retention and no lacing.

The aroma was nicely wheaty with a bit of banana and clove. The flavors were a bit more well defined than the aroma and was also fairly typical.

The body was crisp, clean and fresh. Drinkability was very good, the pint bottle went down very easily. Overall, a nice brew. Worth trying if you see it.

Cloudy gold colored beer, no way can you see through this one. Small white head.

Smell is sweet with about equal amounts of both clove and banana in the scent. Lesser scent of cinnamon and bruised banana.

Starts out sweet with a strong clove and banana ice cream flavor. Milder flavor than the smell, it starts out clove and finishes banana and bubblegum with every taste.

Mouthfeel is good.

Good drinkability, it is a little on the mild side but I could see drinking this all day in the summer.

About 3/4 of the bottle in the glass and all is clear, golden straw yellow with a egg shell white cap.
Aroma is attractive with fruity yeast and a nice amount of spices.
Taste doesn't come off as strong as the aroma, light spices and clean wheat flavors do what they can but end up staying pretty hushed. Easy to drink this would probally be more enjoyable during the summer months then during our cold winter.

I poured this 11.2 oz. bottle into a wheat glass.

A: cloudy, honey-yellow gold color, an aggressive pour produced a small, whitish head with virtually no cap and decent lacing.

S: clove, some sulfur, banana, bubblegum, honey, floral yeast funk.

T: sweet, bread-like yeast, bubblegum, banana, clove.

M: light-bodied, silky, abundant carbonation.

D: a simple and tasty hefeweizen, and one I would seek out again.

Appearance: Pours a hazy pale golden color with a decent though not spectacular cap; leaves a smattering of lace, however

Smell: Cracked wheat, banana bread and a hint of lemon

Taste: Opens with a cracked wheat and banana flavor, with just a hint of lemony sourness that arrives by mid-palate; past is prologue and the finish is much the same as the opening

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Not knowing enough about the Austrian style, I would describe this as an entry hefe - not as rich in flavor or carbonation as its German cousins, and rather devoid of any clove aspect; still, this is easy to drink and very enjoyable

Mid sized German style bottle, w/o freshness info. Pours clouded medium tangarine, under a medium off white head, just a smudge and another smidge of lace on the glass.

Bananas, oranges and wheaty goodness in the nose.

More bananas, mild orange and a hint of clove carry the freight, thoroughly enjoyable wheat. Mild, smooth and moderatly flavorful. Decent levels of carbonation and body, easy drinking nothing unbelievable but worth a try

Pours a cloudy, maize color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and poor lacing. Smells of grain, pale malt, and slight wheat. Barely fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight wheat, slight pale malt, hint of citrus, and slight grain. Overall, no single feature is above average. Decent Hefe at best.

Pours a hazy dirty straw color with a white hazy throughout very much like a witbier. Beautiful creamy pure white head settles into a solid cap. The aroma is of light banana and clove, light grain and lemon tartness. The taste is of wheat malt, banana creme pie, some raw spice, perhaps a touch of coriander. Not sure what it is but there is a different flavor, a bit of a creamy funk. The feel is moderate with soft carbonation; finishes slightly tart and dry. Seems like a different spin on your traditional bavarian hefeweizen. Seems to have a touch of the belgian wit characteristics to it. Not bad, different, worth a try.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a clear, almost hazy yellow color until I shake up the yeast. Now it's orangey with lots of haze and a frothy creamy head with nice retention. Aroma is really muted. Just a pinch of lemon peel and a little bit of sugarcane. Taste is vey light. Not my cup of tea here. Ulta refreshing but tastes like fresca mixed with lemon juice. Has too much carbonation and leaves the mouth tingling. Drinkability is great in hot weather but this is more of a summer beer than a year round drinker. Easy to put down but lacks the complexity some the other German hefeweizens have.

A - pours a very couldy, hazy straw yellow with not too much of a head

S - lemon and citrus with some nice banana and a touch of clove

T - the taste follows the nose pretty closely. It starts with a nice banana flavor, which is the predominant taste throughout. The banana blends with spices and a bit of clove, but not as much as the nose suggested would be in there. Nice weissbier flavors going on in here.

M - the mouth is nicely carbonated and medium bodied. Pretty solid.

D - This is a nice example of a Weissier. This is my first Austrian example, but it closely follows its neighbor's taste characteristics. I took down the bomber on a hot, sticky afternoon so the drinkability was outstanding in my book. This hit the spot.

Beer of the month selection
Poured a cloudy straw yellow with a white fluffy head dissipated into a ring.
Aroma of malt, spice and lemon.
Taste of wheat, yeast with some spice ending with a hint of lemon.
Light body, moderate carbonation and very creamy.
A drinkable beer, however, it is a little sweeter than most Hefeweizens that I enjoy.

I received this beer as a part of a beer of the month club. I don't normally like wheat beers all that much, but this is one great beer.

This beer pours with a creamy white head that is about one finger wide, and it disappears quickly. The beer has a straw color and is hazy like most wheat beers.

The aroma has hints of bananas and cloves with a bit of lemon.

The initial taste is wheat, wheat, and more wheat, but the taste of bananas and cloves are very noticible. This is followed by a full wheat flavor and has a good deal of spicyness. The thing that makes this beer so good is how well all of the flavors are balanced. It finishes with (you guessed it) wheat, but a nice hint of lemon as well.

The body of the beer is very light and dry. Perfect for summer! I would reccomend it to anyone whether you like wheat beers or not.

Poured a cloudy gold with good head and had a decent citric smell with hints of spice. Light and smooth, had a lil bit of spice and lemon zest, along with citric hops in the taste but was rather just average in the taste dept. Went down easy and is a good summer beer but nothing exceptional.

A - cloudy, straw color with a decent head and okay retention

S - clovey yeast phenols and wheat malt mainly with a touch of yeasty banana

T - sweet wheat malt with clovey yeast and a somewhat crisp hop on the finish, wheat tang is evident, banana character is somewhat subdued as the clove is the dominant yeast flavor

M - medium to light body, creamy, moderate carbonation

D - This is an okay example of a Weizen. It's certainly not the best I've had, but still very good. I have a feeling this would be much better closer to the source - perhaps even outstanding.

Twelve ounce bottle from the BOMC poured into a German Wiehenstephan glass.

A: Cloudy murky yellow (lots of yeast action), creamy head and lots of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

S: Some musky hay and grass aromas.

T: Lemony flavor up front, with hay, grass and wheat notes. Not picking up any banana yeast flavors that I would normally expect for this style, although there's certainly a bit of spiciness.

M: Creamy, well carbonated, and light bodied. Beer finishes with more lemony flavor than anything else.

D: Brewery has been around for 300 years plus, so I guess they know what they are doing, but this beer had just a little too much sweet lemony flavor for me. I enjoyed their Pils much more than this selection.

Just finished off a nine mile run....err jog...and nothing replenishes like a good hefe and this is a good hefe.

Excellent banana characteristics on the nose...mashed bananas...banana pudding..

The taste takes on more of a banana bread type of flavor...yeasty...bready...bananany...also some cloves on the taste and a spritz of lemon....almost exactly how I like my hefe's to taste.

Not a bundle of carbonation...more creamy textured...

Great Hefe...Made is Austria but as good as most german Hefe's...
