@ The Griffon
Looks pretty close to pitch black in color, topped by an off-white head that reduces to a thin ring. This one is all about the coffee, though it’s not going to jump out of the glass and slap you around. Nice deep black, oily espresso bean aroma. Similarly “beany” in flavor with an easy going sweetness and a bit of chocolaty malt. Medium bodied. Very simple in execution, but the coffee implementation is so well done it’s hard to resist ordering another glass. Should’ve grabbed a couple bottles to take home with me.

I am sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. A gift from my cousin Nicole and Aunt Dolly in Charleston. Thanks!
The beer pours a deep cola brown with fluffy beige head of 3 cm foaming up on the gentle pour and leaving windowpane lattice as it fades to a sturdy surface layer.
Aroma is a big hit of roasted coffee, dry almost burnt notes and a bit of chocolate buried behind the coffee. Generally roasted and dry on the nose.
First sip reveals an average body with with tingly carbonation that pecks across my palate on each sip.
Flavor is as the nose advertises with a bit of dark chocolate, high cocoa notes that are barely sweet. this is followed by roasted malt and coffee notes that linger after each sip. No hints of alcohol and the hops dont show through either. This is a dry malty brew that coffee lovers would love.
I find it enjoyable this evening after a long day at the beach. Worth a shot if you dig coffee beers and are in the South.

LOOK: Dark amber in color with an off-white, well retaining foam layer. A bit of spotty lace is left behind, and the brew is free of sediment.
SMELL: Pleasant coffee notes, robust and nutty, slight cocoa, and perhaps a whiff of hops. Robust aroma that is quite nice indeed.
TASTE: Delicious coffee flavor reigns supreme here. Roasted malts compliment the espresso beans well, this tastes like a solid coffee beer. Nuts, coffee, char and light vanilla make for a most pleasing profile. Fair bitterness and herbal hops come to the party late but manage to round the brew out.
FEEL: Medium bodied, smooth and easy drinking.
OVERALL: Really beer's answer to iced coffee, id love this with my early morning breakfast.
