Great Lakes Blackout Stout is not the darkest imperial stout I've seen, but it does produce a very rich, dark crema that leaves thick, sticky lacing.
There are a lot of roasted smells in this glass -- coffee and chocolate are dominant among them. There's something smoky and sweet in there, too. No hops announce themselves.
This certainly has some mocha qualities. It's a sweet-bitter-chocolate-coffee melange. Creamy, too. This is a seriously thick beer. Carbonation is light. The flavors really stick around in the mouth, especially the bitter and roasted notes. The alcohol is very well masked.
I could drink a few of these. They go down a bit too easily. Good stuff.
