12 ounce bottle purchased for around $5 at Lone Hill Liquor in San Dimas, CA.
Appearance: The pour is black with chestnut highlights. A thin light brown head doesn't quite cover the body and soon fades away completely.
Smell: The nose has lots of melted milk chocolate, a bit of dark chocolate, and an Italian espresso roast brewed up in a moka pot.
Taste: The flavor profile has the chocolate and coffee from the aroma, but it's more complex. Vanilla beans enter the mix at the beginning for a sweetness with fuses into toffee for the mid-palate. Leading into and during the finish, I'm getting quite a bit of a big, lush New World red wine.
Mouthfeel: It's full-bodied and velvety with a tannic finish.
Drinkability: Chocolate? Good. Coffee? Good. Fruit bomb red wine? Good. I would use this beer to fill my RIS cravings often if price and availability weren't an issue.
