12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/28/2012. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, toffee, raisin, pine, floral, light anise, dark bread, and herbal earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, dark bread, toffee, light char, light smoke, pine, floral, and herbal earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toffee, light char, light smoke, dark bread, floral, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice flavor robustness, balance, and complexity; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Russian imperial stout. Great balance and complexity of flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured from a bottle with the date 3/14/14 into a Lickinghole Creek snifter
A - Pours pitch black and appearing a tad thin on the pour. I'm not expecting a thick stout as I had hoped for. Almost no head is present, but it does leave a khaki ring around the edge. Slippery, yet splotchy lacing, is a result of whirling the glass around, but none stays hanging to the sides.
S - There is a huge coffee component to this beer. It's very forward as if this is a coffee stout. Other than that, I'm getting dark cocoa, roasted malts, a tad bit of smokiness, and a subtle hop presence. Sugar is very present and assume this is going to be on the sweet side.
T - The initial flavor is bitter dark chocolate with booze accompanying roasted dark coffee. I'm not picking up a lot of hops, but they tend to come and go as you try to depict the flavors. I'm also tasting a light smokiness. Very tasty!
M - I have to retract my statement from above as this is a lot thicker than it appears. It's mouth coating if anything. The smokiness leaves a subtle sting and spiciness on my cheeks, while there is a acidic feel once it settles. This is a solid full-bodied stout!
O - I really like this beer! If I can get my hands on the BA version, I would be ecstatic. We get GL beers in NoVA, but none in my area. I hope that this ventures down to my local shop sooner than later. This is something that I would drink on a regular basis if available.
