Poured from a bottle into a snifter glass. 2012 version with a best by date of July 15, 2012.
A: A medium to darker orange color that is a bit murky. Glass lacing is huge and sticky.
S: Lots of citrus smells with floral and herbal notes and a large more candy like sweetness.
T: Lighter citrus is the main hops flavor with pineapple, tangerine and lemon coupled with some floral and herbal flavors. The hops get smoothed out by the substantial candy and sugar sweetness that lasts all the way to the finish. Not bitter on the finish but the alcohol pokes through for a lasting sweeter finish.
M: Full, coating, sweet and some alcohol.
O: A sweeter DIPA for sure that is solid but not something you can drink a few of. Of course the ABV helps limit drinkability, but for me it was the sweetness and finish that really limits it. Good beer, not great.
I am updating my review in September 2012. I had a bottle over the weekend that was just too damn good not to up my score. The nose was off the charts pineapple and just so aromatic with citrus. The flavor followed up with the same. This is still a sweet beer, but I got way more citrus and pineapple in this bottle. Note: Bottle was from the 2012 batch, so it was probably 2 or 3 months old, but still I really enjoyed it. Solid DIPA.
