A: Pours a clear, golden yellow with an abundant amount of white frothy head that slowly fades away.

S: A very hop-forward aroma with lots of pine and citrus notes.

T: Smooth up front with a clean pine flavor, but finishes with a pleasant bitter note that leaves you ready to take another sip. An excellent progression that lends itself well to sipping. The malt bill takes a backseat in this brew, but does what it needs to in providing a balance to the hops, and adding a slight graininess that works for the style.

M: Light, crisp, and very refreshing. The flavors at work only serve to make the beer seem even more drinkable than it would initially seem. The only harshness in the mouth is from the bitterness at the end of a sip, but even that doesn't detract too much.

O: A great pale ale, one that has both complexity, and the restraint to enjoy all night.

Poured from a 12 oz. capped bottle (Best Before 04/12/12) into a pint glass.

A strong pour yields a 1 1/2-finger off-white colored head that slowly dies down to a decent, even dusting and thin foam ring. The body is a perfectly clear golden amber with very few carbonation bubbles. Good lacing can be seen throughout consumption but very little seems to stick around.

The first noticeable quality in the nose is the balance. Both the hops and the malt are very well represented here. Floral and slightly citrusy, the hops give notes of fresh flowers and honeydew. The malt gives notes of bread and toasted grains.

The hops flavors really come out at first sip with floral notes along with grapefruit and mandarin orange. Some grainy malt flavors are also present. Upon swallowing the beer, a strong pine hops flavor emerges along with more bready malt. A decent bitterness persists between sips.

Light to medium bodied with great carbonation, this beer is a Cleveland staple when it comes to easy drinking Pale Ales. The body is refreshing and easy-drinking while allowing the flavors to really come out. The carbonation is a bit on the fizzy side but definitely help to make this beer very drinkable. Overall, the mouthfeel is on par for the style and makes this beer a real thirst-quencher.

12oz out of 12 pack mix at the HT. 3/15/12 drink by date.

A - Pours a golden orange, with a finger and a half head, that hangs around for a while.

S - Floral notes, mild grapefruit, bread

T- Hops on the mild side, some biscuit. Grassy overtones. Very clean tasting, however it has an aftertaste I cannot quite place. A similar aftertaste is in one of the other beers in the mixer.

M- Very crisp, good carbonation, slight sharpness on the back of the tongue.

O - Very drinkable, will have to investigate that aftertaste, but this is recommended. Nothing too overpowering in the taste department, and the hops are restrained.

Aroma: Citrus hops, sweet malts. Surprisingly a bit of light chocolate and brown malt is present. Just a tiny amount of pine and alcohol.

Appearance: Deep gold. Mostly clear with some visible particles in suspension. Moderate white head. Surprisingly good retention. Sparse, very sticky lacing.

Taste: Sweet grapefruit, slightly bitter orange citrus, fresh and clean light malt flavor. Nice balance between sweet and bitter. Mild diacetyl, perhaps because this brew is just past the freshness date. Some of that roasty darker malt flavor in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Slick, again perhaps due to the freshness date. Starts to numb the roof of the mouth and tongue just a bit.

Overall: Nice balance and complexity. A bit harsh, but I'll blame most of that on the age of this bottle. Goes down just easy enough. Another great brew from Great Lakes.

Notes: Tasted on 1/23/2012. Freshness date on the bottle reads 12/26/2011.

A - Straw colored light blond with three finger head.

S - Bready, grainy malt, clove, oats.

T - Grainy malts from the get go. Hops seem very subdued.

M - Light to medium with average carbonation.

O - Decent pale ale offering by Great Lakes. This one was a little past it's prime. I will be excited to try this one fresh.
