I had this beer 4 or 5 years ago when my brother was in grad school in Cleveland. I remember being impressed and have been looking forward to sampling it again.
Black with tan head. Just what you would expect in a porter. Sheets of lacing are left behind after each sip. Smell starts to let you know that this isn't the typical porter though. It would be easier to list what I don't smell in this beer. It has that typical smoked smell but i also note cherries, coffee, chocolate and sweetness. Taste lives up to the anticipation from the smell. I really pick up the chocolate notes in the taste. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. This is the most drinkable porter that I've had in a long time. I wish I had more than the one lonely one left in the cellar.
