First time trying this style of beer. Here we go...
Pours a rich amber with a light copper tinge, plenty of frothy foam on top that retains well and leaves nice lacing on the glass. Small bubbles rising throughout...very pretty on this hot summer day.
Smell reminds me of sourdough...a bit sour but bready/biscuity. Even so, smell makes me think it'll finish dry for whatever reason. We'll see.
Taste comes off very much as the smell would indicate. There's a sour breadiness, light honey/pear sweetness, well-balanced bitterness to carry it, leaving behind a light biscuity flavour to enjoy. Yummy.
Mouthfeel is pretty good. Fills the mouth nicely, doesn't finish as dry as I expected it to (fine, whatever) but I would have liked a bit more carbonation to crisp it up a bit. It lags off a bit at the end to my taste.
Overall, a very nice beer. It's well-balanced and while things stick out a bit at times, it's more like a dance that carries it through interesting twists and turns, never off balance but rather tilted in one direction at one time and the other direction just a touch later. Interesting and yummy.

Maybe the best of the Great Lakes offerings. I had the the Dortmunder Gold recently on tap at a seafood restaurant outside of Cleveland. Was skeptical since it had been a couple years since I had had it, but this beer is still as world class as it was before I knew what good beer was. If you grew up with Great Lakes you grew up spoiled.
