A: Amber-mahogany in color. A just off-white head sits on top. Ample at first, but dies fast to a lace. Some lace down the sides of the glass.

S: Rich maltiness. Deep caramel notes. Some dark fruit. Rich melanoidan character. Finishes with some subtle breadiness. Almost smells like a bock. A hint of metal in the end.

T: Beautiful malt flavors. Heavy munich malt character. This beer starts out with rich toffee/caramel flavor which rounds out to a bready flavor. There are definitely some rich melanoidans in this beer. Not quite as strong as you would find in a bock, but definitely there. The hops provide ample bitterness to balance things out. This beer is very flavorful, but at the same time appropriately restrained. Great balance of flavors.

M: Sharp on the tongue at first. Finishes crisp and a little sticky. Dry enough for you to want to drink more. Moderate carbonation.

D: Yet another excellent beer from Great Lakes. This brewery definitely knows how to make their lagers. This is an excellent example of a vienna style lager. Lots of malt flavor, but at the same time restrained enough to be very drinkable. One of the best examples for the style. A must try if you like good lagers.

12oz bottle, best by 7/28/2014, poured into a FFF pint glass 7/18/2014.

A- Clear amber body with a one finger tan head, good retention, leaves a fuzzy film on top, lots of lacing all around.

S- Sweet toffee malt, earthy noble hops, some caramel, crisp banana bread, yeast. Sweet but not cloyingly so and in a refreshing way.

F- Toffee, caramel, hint of raisin, a little banana (hence banana bread in the nose), earthiness, and the signature GLBC yeast flavour. This is excellent, not perfect but just about as outstanding as any brewer can make a Vienna lager.

M- Medium bodied, refreshing and crisp yet smooth and silky at the same time. They did a great job on this one. Very drinkable, no real effects of the ABV on the flavour at all.

O- Excellent take on the style, as I would expect from GLBC and their tradition of brewing excellent lagers. Why I never reviewed this before, I'm not sure, but I ought to get around to reviewing their other offerings as well!
