12 oz brown bottle. Best by 6/25/13. Poured into a standard pint.
Appearance: Pours a nice golden-orange color with an average white hea. Retention has faded to a fine distinct film resting on top. Sudsy sticky lacing everywhere.
Aroma: Nice rye spice and toasted grain. Floral, grassy, spicy hops, leafy mint. Nice.
Taste: Wow, that's a Rye beer done right. The rye complements the IPA qualities very nicely. Spicy and floral, grassy hops bitterness plays with a toasted biscuit rye spiciness. Excellent bitterness. Good beer.
Mouthfeel: Medium body. Smooth carbonation. Excellent spicy character and bitterness. Finish is dry and lingers for a bit.

Gr4eat to see this beer down here in NC.Poured into a standard pint glass a clear medium golden with a nicely formed half finger white head that clung to the glass it settled.Aromas are on the lighter side with grapefruit rind and mild rye sharpness detected.Flavors of leafy hops with a tinge of grapfruit rind although not in your face,the rye gives off some sharpness,there is a firm biscuit maltiness that plays a role as well.A solid beer to be expected from GLB but not great.

Thanks to Mike for tossing me a bottle. This one pours a highly cloudy shade that perches somewhere between amber and orange. The head is slow to form, but emerges to a size of at least three fingers before it slowly begins its descent to a ring. Lacing rings are splattered nicely at different intervals down the glass.
Once you dip your nose in the glass and smell Rye of the Tiger, there's no denying that this baby is loaded up with rye. A very spicy, dry aroma elevates from the brew and entwines with the also-spicy hop characteristics; leafy, herbal, and ashy to the core. Some bitter, white-pepper covered grapefruit peels hang in the periphery... This beers smells like it's either going to be highly spicy, highly bitter, or perhaps both.
Well, the first sip tells me that it's going to be both, but not quite in the capacity that the nose was leading me to believe... Turns out that may actually be a good thing. Spicy, highly herbal and peppery hops bonk the palate quickly and provide a nice little bitter jolt up front; the bitterness lasts softly for the duration of the sip and well into the aftertaste. It's not a high or abrasive amount of bitterness; it's actually quite nice in this amount.
The rye doesn't take long to kick in, and it meshes abruptly with the spicy characteristics of the hops to really create a cut and dry experience. It's definitely dry and spicy, so get ready for some serious tongue-scraping action. Citrus is a bit more buried, but you can still find some bitter grapefruit pith if you dig far enough into the flavor. Malt provides a slight, finishing bready sweetness for balance, but not much else. The mouth feel is just shy of sticky; it's actually almost creamy, too, with decent carbonation and a dry, warming finish.
Decent brew, although I'm not terribly fond of heavy-handed rye beers to begin with, so this is possibly a somewhat biased viewpoint. Still drinkable, although the dryness and spice from the hops and rye might begin to wear your palate down after a bottle. Something I wouldn't mind having again, but wouldn't actively seek it out myself. I enjoy things like Ruthless Rye or Reds Rye PA more than this.

This beer always kicks my butt. One of the hoppiest beers to come out of GLBC. The 7.5% ABV is deceiving (I think its more than that because it always takes me close to a half hour just to finish one). I still prefer Lake Erie Monster and Alchemy Hour over Rye of the Tiger.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.
Hazed peachy amber, two fingers of head holds strong. Aromas of mint, hemp seed, grapefruit rind, pine sap, fresh grass, toasted grain, mild spice, yeast and some tropical fruity esters. Big on smoothness, subtle crispness, medium bodied. Warming alcohol, spicy, biscuity, semi-agressive hop bitterness, nutty yeast, pithy, cactus fruit, bready undertone. Bitter semi-dry finish.
Pretty complex, a whole lot for the palate to take on but I certainly can handle it. Very much an IPA and the rye element works.

Serving glass: Poured from tap into Pint glass.
Appearance: Slightly hazy, light orange with a thin white cap.
Smell: First notice that it smells like a Great Lakes beer, with caramel and cherry. There is also some grapefruit and lemon notes.
Taste: Tastes fairly different than the aroma, with more of a toasted, bready backbone (not caramel and cherry). Very hoppy with grapefruit, orange and lemon. The finish is bitter, but the rye also comes out strongly, with a spicy earthiness.
Feel: Fairly full bodied with moderate carbonation. Very dry finish.
Overall: Great Rye IPA that I wish was bottled.
Update: yay, it is being bottled in 2013!
Update #2: And after tasting the bottle, I am getting more tropical notes than I remember on-tap. Equally outstanding.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Bottle says enjoy by 06/19/2013.
Appearance: Pours a bright and clear copper amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Huge four finger off white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of lacing clinging to the glass.
Smell: A spicy and citrus smelling hop driven aroma that is pretty grassy. Hoppy upfront with hints of earthy pine resin, floral and herbal hints, and grass. Citrus fruit hints of grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, and lemon zest. Big hints of rye spicing adding a pepper like scent. Bready malts with hints of biscuit, grains, caramel, and yeast. A very hop and spice driven aroma.
Taste: Like the smell hints, a hop forward IPA taste with lots of spice and earthy notes. Earthy hops upfront with notes of spicy pine resin and grass. Herbal and floral notes. Citrus fruit notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, and pineapple. Big rye spice presence that complements the pine spice with some pepper notes. Bready toasted malts with notes of biscuit, grains, caramel, and yeast. A very good spicy taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, spicy, and fairly oily. Very drying.
Overall: A very good rye IPA. Big bitter and spicy rye and hop flavor. Nice malt background.
