Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz snifter. Best before 06/24/13

A: Amber color fairly close to the orange hair of the tiger on the label. Mostly clear but not quite fully transparent. Small head dissipates very quickly - seems common to Great Lakes beers.

S: tropical fruit, something like passion fruit, slight spiciness from the rye

T: Rye stands out in the taste after being subdued in the smell. Any tropical fruit flavors from the hops are masked by the rye. Astringent, dried out aftertaste.

M: I think the carbonation and the rye spiciness a

O: A very good beer, but not quite a match for my tastes

Thick, creamy and dense the head was fed by a row of continuous bubbles. Obviously very fresh there was a thick lacing along the pint. Orange coloring gave the appearance a bit of nonchalance.

Little hints of fruity notes I caught sniffs of grapefruit and lemon. The main aromas came from the rye as malt, barley or grainy scents held the body. A touch weak by still very nice.

The taste is quite smooth with strong rye malt flavor and less hoppy flavors. There are some undertones of earthy hop flavor but not the piney hops I would have assumed. Not much fruitiness but I found grapefruit hidden in the mix. The feel is as smooth as the taste as I find this to be a great beer from Great Lakes.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip pint glass.

A: Clear, light amber color with over one finger of off-white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass and a few diffuse streams of bubbles rise in the column.

S: Lemon meringue pie is suggested by the bright citrus and crisp malt notes. Lesser exotic cooking spices are also detectable; their descriptors vary widely, from black mustard seed to zesty fresh galangal to earthy cumin.

T: Begins almost dry, with early fruity hops aromatics that yield to a solid backbone of doughy pale malt. Citric acidity is moderate into the middle where the crisp and pungent qualities of the rye grain really expand on the palate; distinctly peppery and drying. Grapefruit peel also compliments the mid-profile drying trend, preserving the sensation of juiciness. Bitterness is well-integrated into the latter half of the flavor profile, sneakily rising for the austere finish in which it is paired with husky stand-out rye.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly sticky but balanced on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: Another thoughtful, traditional take on the IPA style by Great Lakes. Rye is in the name, and so it is prominently featured in the sensory profile, along with comfortable West Coast hops. Like the IPAs of Founders, those of Great Lakes Brewing always show some characteristic malt as well. This beer bears the same mark of quality as Commodore Perry IPA, and the rye is a twist. Hopefully some day they will decide to feature aggressive dry-hopping against their masterful formula.

I bought I case from bound beverage in Bensalem PA. I have never had the this beer and yet it was one of the cheaper prices for a caseI haven't had anything bad yet from Great Lakes so here we go.

Poured into a tulip a slightly hazy golden color with a nice two finger eggshell colored heading. Heading stayed intact the entire tasting. Good lacing throughout, and good bubbling action.

Nose is heavy with Toasty rye grains.Citrus, hop rind, and a grassy finish pretty much sum up the nose.

Rye malts from the get go. Followed up with a juicy bite and a bitter hop grind linger. A finish with a little spice kick. Hidden ABV.

Mouth is a little on the chewy side , with good carbonation. A full bodied beverage.

Overall not bad but nothing out of the ballpark. It is a heavier hitter as well so watch yourself with these ones.

A-light orange amber color with a nice white head and good lacing

S-toasted grain, citrus, pine, hints of spice, grassy

T-bready malt, grapefruit, pine, grassy, slight pepper, mild rye flavors, moderate bitter finish

F-medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp and slightly astringent

O-a solid rye IPA, but not among my favorites of this particular style, rye flavor a little more subdued than I would like
