So I just visited Great Lakes, I love most of their stuff, and I'm trying to get over my prejudices regarding lager from my pre craft days. Since this was seasonally about and a stronger version of their regular Dortmunder, I figured why not give it a try.
A- Poured into a heavy shaker pint, bright white foam head that dissipates to a ring within a few minutes. Moderate lacing. Beer is clear with a slightly darker amber yellow color than I am accustomed to from lagers.
S- Kind of a fruity sulphur smell, a little sweet.
T- Again fruity, sweet and a little sulphery. Not unpleasant and not unlike a Belgian Strong Pale
M- Although the beer smells and tastes sweet, it is very dry on the palate and goes down with a finish similar to the initial flavors.
D- Pretty easy to drink, but not something I would keep going back for more of.
