Poured into a tall hefeweizen glass.
Appearance: Dark brown with hints of red. Fine tan head, with very little carbonation in the beer. Head retains well - up to the end of the glass.
Smell: Roasted malt, caramel, might even be a little bit of a smoky smell at the end.
Taste: Crisp and malty, with plenty of mellow biscuit flavor up front and gradually some more chocolate/coffee notes throughout. Finish is dry, alcohol really comes through, along with a hint of bitterness from the hops.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and well-bodied, probably the fullest of the Great Lakes beers I've tried.
Overall: A very well-balanced, enjoyable beer, but nothing that strikes me as outstanding. It delivers plenty of malt character, some of which I probably don't appreciate. At $3 for a 12-oz bottle, I probably won't buy it again, but am glad I tried it.
