A very pretty reddish chestnut color. A fast pour yields the brief appearance of a big-bubbled tan head which fades to nothing after just a dozen or so seconds.
Aroma give promise of a big malty beer, great caramel and sweet malt notes, some raisin, maybe a slight hint of buttery diacetyl. Overall effect is just a great aroma. Taste is caramel sweet malt, with small roasty notes in the background. Just a touch of hop bitterness (may be perceiving something else as hops here) through the middle that fades quickly leading to a very clean finish.
Big body in this double bock, nice full mouthfeel and very smooth. Carbonation is moderate in the mouth, though more visible in the beer itself.
Nothing about this beer would discourage me from opening another right after. A nice big sipper if you want, but so easy to drink.
