12oz bottle, best by January 16, 2016. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a medium-dark brown body, one finger offwhite head with fairly short retention time. Not much lacing. Smells of oatmeal, rich cocoa, chocolate, a bit of espresso. A very nice dense aroma that clearly evokes oatmeal stout. Not porter or imperial stout, oatmeal stout. Flavour is similar; very nice cocoa, milk chocolate, touch of espresso, mild earthiness rounds things out. No char or smoke. Very clean but fairly cocoa/chocolate-heavy for a 5.4% oatmeal stout. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, not thick by any means but not thin, with plenty of depth. Good carbonation. Smooth, easy drinking oatmeal stout. Overall, this is a pretty prototypical oatmeal stout that's very well crafted. I think beers like this are underappreciated in the era of big, bold imperial beers, but this is yet another beer done in the GLBC fashion- clean, stylistic, approachable yet complex.

Look: Very dark brown, almost black. A very nice, maybe 3/4"-1" creamy looking, nutty brown head. Pretty much no light passing through.
Smell: This is only my second stout, but smells similar to Deschutes Obsidian. You can smell a slightly sweet roasted scent. Smells like stout. I hope to get better at describing stouts in the future.
Taste: Oh wow, this is excellent. The nose deceived me into thinking I would not like it very much, but this taste is killer. Coffee straight off the bat. Maybe a hint of dark chocolate. This has given me a whole new perspective on how stouts can taste.
Feel: This is straight up smoothness. No bite at all unless you maybe get some of the head. It really really sticks around in your mouth very well. This is a great mouthfeel.
Overall: Wow, this has changed my whole view of stouts. I look forward to trying more in the future, that's for sure. I love the coffee flavor quite a bit. I wonder if some of the characteristics I love are because this is an oatmeal stout. Regardless, this is definitely something I would buy again. Excellent stout.

Pours out of the can a midnight black with a little more than a finger of head when poured initially rough. Good retention and some nice lacing. Smells like cocoa and roasted malts. Tastes slightly smoky, dark chocolate, and some earthiness. Dry on the very back end. Good carbonation, lending to the robust mouthfeel that you hope for with a stout.

Draft at BTR Brews. Dark, silky black pour. Aroma is roasty, chocolate and licorice. Taste continues with same flavors as the aroma, the licorice really grabbing the palate.

Appearance: Pours a completely dark, nearly completely black color with a strong tan head. SRM of 24. (4.00)

Aroma: Strong aromas of cocoa, grain malt, chocolate with cream and oatmeal underneath. (4.25)

Flavor: Moderate flavors of cocoa, dark, roasted grains, some roasted oatmeal with yeast, that gives a light, dry finish. (4.00)

Feel: Lighter-bodied, strong carbonation. Finish is clean and dry. Mild roast. (3.75)

Compared to Toppling Goliath Rover Truck 1/2023: Pours darker, stronger head. Similar aromas. Slightly more dried cocoa and grains. Less bittersweet English cream, coffee, lactose. Cleaner with stronger carbonation.

Compared to New Glarus Road Slush Oatmeal Stout 1/2023: Pours similar, milder head. Similar aromas. Slightly more chocolate, cocoa, airy roast. Less root beer, cola, dark fruit. Slightly less carbonation and more balanced.

Compared to Saugatuck G.O.A.T Oatmeal Stout 2/2023: Pours lighter, stronger but lighter head. Milder aromas. More coffee roast and English bittersweet chocolate. Less smooth milk chocolate, vanilla, cream. More roasty and dry.

Overall: A light and clean drinking oatmeal stout here. Nice appearance, fantastic aromas. Mild but appropriate flavors and body. Very drinkable and smooth. (Rating: 4.04)

dark brew, some copper highlights around the edges. Big head, choppy lacing.

Rich smoky smell. powdered chocolate, fresh bread... real nice.

taste had some malt depth, although overall light bodied. Oatmeal is subtle upfront, comes in a bit more on the dry dry finish. light bodied, which may work better if the heavy carbonation and off putting mouthfeel was more muted. There is some sweetness that works and it stays true to a stout.

Welcomed rarity of a straightforward oatmeal stouts in the world of crazy overblown stouts.

Not quite black, just really, really dark brown. Dense tan head, pretty good retention,
Generic roast and toast aroma leaning towards chocolate
Roast, char, chocolate, and a hint of dark fruit flavors
Medium bodied, smooth, and appropriately carbonated

One of a pick six at the local Binnys, (thankfully). Pours a dark brown, decent khaki head and some spotty lacing. Nose says some chocolate and roasted malt, taste buds agree. Well carbonated, thinner than expected. A one and done, I'll stick with Imperial Stouts.

12 oz. can, best by 01/27/2023. A new one to me from Great Lakes, acquired a single can as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's.

Poured to Camp Crystal Lake stemless wine snifter.
Deep & dark on the pour, virtually no light shining through. Small half finger of thin khaki-tan head that doesn't stay long. Some mild spotty lacing. Sticky appearance, leaves minor spotty lacing on the glass.
Roasty aroma, lots of dark char, with perhaps a bit of earthy herbal hop bite in the background. Smells smooth, dark, & creamy.
Taste follows the nose: super dark & charred, lots of bitter baking chocolate, chocolate malt, hints of liquid smoke, and ending with herbal hop bitterness.
Roasty, smooth, & creamy. Dark, but not overly bitter or chalky. Medium-light bodied, with good carb for the style.
Overall, a fairly average oatmeal stout offering from Great Lakes, but with good drinkability, and a modest 5.40% abv.

Handsome black appearance with tan foamy head. Left light to moderate lacing in a pint glass. Light, mellow aroma. Taste was light roasted malt with almost no hop or bitterness to the aftertaste. Feel was a bit light for the style. Nonetheless, an enjoyable beer and will purchase again.

Another beer from my brother in Ohio and once again, a good one.

Poured a dark black color with a tan head.
The smell was of chocolate and malt. The taste was of chocolate, some malt and something sweet. Pretty good tasting beer and it is one I would drink again.

12 oz can into a pint glass.

Pours near black with a small, brownish head that dissipates fairly quickly.

Smells toasty, with just a hint of chocolate.

Has a nice toasted malt flavor with the faintest hint of caramel and chocolate. Not too bitter and not too sweet.

Has a nice medium body, a bit more carbonated than expected, but not displeasing.

Overall, this was a very good drink. It strikes a nice balance finding the middle-ground between a dry stout and some of the sweeter varieties that made it quite enjoyable. It could be just a little bit smoother, but I'm looking forward to another glass regardless.

I enjoyed this, nothing special bug no frills and is what it says it is, nice roasty flavors with hints of coffee and chocolate, I like this one about as much as Upslope's oatmeal stout which is another favorite of mine. Looking forward to this one again I know it gets overshadowed by the Oktoberfest and Christmas Ale
