Very dark with hints of red. Very fine nitro bubbles.

There is a faint smell of roasted barley at first but it grows in strength as the nitro bubbles off.

Sweat taste and also roasted malt. Astringent in the finish.

Smooth and creamy. medium body.

Quite yummy, but I'm starting to not like nitro. It looks great but I'd rather have better aroma and taste.

I was very suprised to see this on tap at the Corner Slice here in Greensboro last night.Poured into a standard pint glass a deep dark brown with amber highlights,a thinner deep beige colroed head atop.Roast and brown sugar aromas mixed in with lightly sweet chocolate,a little char was in there as well.A full but creamy feel in the mouth made it go down very easy, deeply roasted with some vanilla/caramel flavors along with more bitter chocolate. This was nice oatmeal stout filled with different flavors and a nice creamy feel,I have come to expect kick ass beer from GL.

Appearance: Cocoa brown ruby hue pretty dark brew with a light moccha head leaves speckled lacing all the way down the pint glass. Aroma: Light dusting of cocoa wtih a nutty edge comes across my senses light herbal hop notes are evident along with dark roasts is the oatmeal graininess that is situated nicely in the mix. Taste: Extremely smooth not watery or not flavorful just extremely smooth crosses the palate with a sweet bready tone light cocoa and hints of dark chocolate fluffy creaminess to it all characteristic of a good oatmeal stout finishes with a slight bitterness gives of a leafy flavor works well altogether. Mouthfeel: Light ot medium bodied stout does not sit heavy still packs the flavor of a great dark beer evenly carbonated as stated earlier silky smooth. Drinkability: Very nice session stout, a rarity in today's realm of imperial oak barrel triple wet hopped in your face beers, highly desired another pint masterfully brewed by the folks at Great Lakes.

(Served in a nonic)

A- This beer has a black body that is very dense and a light creamy tan head that last for a minute never to be seen again.

S- The smell of earthy black malt is very light and only comes through after a heavy sip.

T- The big taste of coffee roasted malt flavor has a slight dark cola note to it with a clean open finish. There is a very light hint of malt bitterness that hangs on the tongue but only for a split second.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a watery texture.

D- This beer is very light and soft with more black lager qualities than oatmeal stout flavors. I didn't get any slipperiness in texture or oatmeal flavor at all. Everything that the blackout stout is this one is not.

Creamy head sits atop an opaque black beer with brown highlights. Lots of lacing.
Mild aroma of roasty malt, chocolate, and coffee.

Taste is very smooth. Roasty malt with chocolate, oatmeal and coffee notes. Nicely balanced. Plenty of malt sweetness yet roasty and dry. Light to medium dryness. Tad earthy.

What's not to like about a nitrogen charged beer's mouthfeel. Very creamy and solid body.
Very drinkable.
Overall, a good stout, although not even one of GLBC's best stouts let alone their best beers.

Tap at Duckworths. Cola black pour, layer of tan with some bubbles within. Some minimal lacing.

Aroma, roast malt, milder coffee dark chocolate and milder yet anise.

Taste, definetely some oats upfront, along with a tad bit of peanut and cardboard. Nice light chocolates. Some mineral water. Very light coffee and roast in the finish.

A tad thin, a tad high carbonation, may be more a result of the establishment. Very easy drinker. Session type stout as I imagine it was intended. Not sure where the ratings anywhere near 4 could be coming from.

Very dark brown with a thin but heavy tan head. Nutty smoked malts in the nose. Taste reflects to the nose with its mild roasted, earthy nuts and barley. Slight citrus and sour notes in the background. The finish is dry and of wheat crackers. Thin to medium body and with an nice smooth slightly creamy mouth.

@ Tyler's (Raleigh)

Black with a tight beige head that reduces to a permanent covering on the surface. Patches of drippy lacing coat the glass. Malty, powdery cocoa aromas greet a significant oatmeal presence, nuts, and some light fruit. Super smooth coffee and chocolate malt, hazelnut, and big time oat flavors. This may, in fact, be the most oat-forward beer I have ever had. Light and drinkable, but with a silky, creamy quality that prevents any notion of wateriness. Very enjoyable!

On tap (NItro according to the board) at the Great Lakes brewery in Cleveland/Ohio City, OH. Served in a tulip stout glass.

Appearance: Black with a thick tan head. Lots and lots of persistent lacing all over the glass. Big sheets, islands, and lots of strands. Held up to the light the black is more of a dark ruby red color.

Smell: Not a lot of aroma. A barest hint of oats and roasted malt.

Taste: A solid oat + roasted malt flavor. Some chocolate notes, but not bittersweet or cocoa. Subtle chocolate would be a good description. Definite oat and roasted malt flavor - a good sweetbread/oat cookie flavor, but not overly sweet. The more and more I try to describe it, the more and more the word "restrained" comes to mind. Very tasty, but it's not pounding you over the head with it. The bitterness at the end is mild, a little bit English in style, a little bit of your roasted malt bitterness as well.

Mouthfeel: Smooth with a light mouthfeel. Not watery, but not as thick as I was expecting it to be. A little bit sticky on the teeth.

Overall/Drinkability: A very drinkable stout. At 4.8% ABV I was able to have 2 12oz glasses over the course of a meal and I wouldn't mind another on top of that. Went well with a Cuban sandwich, but I think it would be even better with a burger. Full flavored, but restrained and very nice. I can see why people rave out this beer when it does finally come out at the brewery. I wish they would bottle it...but then I might not get the Blackout Stout so never mind. Other than not having a lot of aroma, an outstanding beer.

Had this at the brewpub, pours a lighter black if that is possible with a fluffy head that leaves some nice fat lace on the glass. Smell is malty and bready to me I could also smell a bit of the nice oats in there as well. Taste is pretty good, with hints of coffee and burnt chocolate with just a bit of bitterness in there that does hit the palate but doesn't stay around to long. I enjoyed this beer and also the brewary, great prodcuts at such a great place.
