A deep brew with clarity but still a little opaque, this beer's color is darker than gold and lighter than orange, close to amber but a hint lighter. On top rests a puffy, somewhat dense off-white head kept up by bubbling from the bottom of the glass and holding up for a good while. It shows strength in some chunky lacing as well.
The aroma is hoppy and juicy while balanced by enough malts to let the hops bring out their full effect, pretty much what I'd expect from GLBC. There's some grassiness with almost a kitchen-herb note to it. Perfumey notes from hops along with something like honey in the sweetness finish it out.
Tropical fruits bitterness makes up most of the hops flavor as well, balanced by a touch of caramel from malts. Citrus zest adds both tang and bitterness. What I get from the herbal notes is something like onion and garlic. This is a good beer, and I know lots of hard-core hop heads love it, but I can't bring myself to think of it on that level because I can't get those notes not to clash just a little. I assume it's a particular hop variety. I think it takes more away than it gives, but i will say it doesn't do too much damage to an otherwise fantastic beer.
It's hard to say whether this beer is semi-sweet or semi-dry in the feel, but I like the median it finds. It all sits on a solid medium body that's got a nice, crisp bite as well as a certain creaminess.
