12 oz. bottle poured into a Founders snifter.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber-hued orange color with a half-inch white head.

Smell: Impressive. Bursting with citrus and tropical hops - tangerine, mango, papaya. No alcohol in the nose. Love it.

Taste: Very similar to the smell - big on the tangerine and tropical fruit hops along with some grapefruit. A tiny bit of caramel malt sneaks in to give some balance on the finish, but this is all about the hops. No real alcohol heat and a nice bittering hop presence on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and pretty dry, although the tropical fruit hop flavors do give a mild perceived sweetness. Medium-high carbonation. Bittering hops dry out the palate on the finish.

Overall: Great Lakes normally kills it and this is one of their best in my opinion. Phenomenal DIPA.

12oz Bottle Poured into Mr. Pint.

Appearance: Copper with a small amount of carbonation. Virtually no head at all.

Smell: Very tropical and hoppy with pine notes. Smells... serious. Like it's not hiding anything at all.

Taste: Big, bold IPA flavors abound here, with a bit more sweetness than what you'd find in your typical double IPA. It's different, and here, different is good!

Mouthfeel: Crisp, clear. No alcohol burn to report. Slight stickiness, strangely enough.

Overall: I'm glad I got a 4 pack of this before the liquor store ran out...!

Crystal clear copper hue with a nice sticky finger and half tall white head. Lots of papaya and mango on the nose along with other tropical fruits, smells great. Incredibly incredibly smooth. Sweet tropical fruits , a bit of pine and grassiness, some sweet caramel and and sweet breads beneath it all, well blended flavors , balanced but overall sweet with bitterness just keeping things in check with a touch of alcohol heat. Really really nice.

Finally found a few 4-packs, and I'm glad I did. Served chilled into an IPA glass.
A: No head, lacing, or retention on this beer. It's a brilliant golden honey color.
S: The aroma is hop forward, with a slight citrus and fruity scent.
T: Sweet, citrusy, and fruity with notes of orange, passion fruit and grapefruit.
M: An effervescent, medium bodied beer that is slightly astringent.
O: One of my new favorite IIPA's, it's like an Imperial Fresh Squeezed IPA from Deschutes. The Mosaic hops and sweet malt profile make this beer extremely drinkable.

A: Pours a clear honey color with a finger of white head that fades into a frothy ring with decent lacing.

S: Bright citrus aromas up front followed by some odd steamed vegetable-like DMS aromas.

T: Thankfully the DMS is less present in the flavor, with bright citrus flavors up front followed by grapefruit and resinous pine. The finish is lightly bitter with a little alcohol warmth, though has a slight DMS aftertaste.

M: Medium body and carbonation, this beer has a lively feel to it, making it drinkable despite its abv.

O: I really enjoyed this beer at first, but as it warmed, the DMS aromas and flavor came out more. It's not bad by any means, but without the DMS it could be great. I'm not for sure where the DMS is coming from since it was poured at a bar that regularly rotates and cleans its taps.

A - Pours a delightful clear amber color with a small white head. Bubbles, bubbles everywhere.

S - Sweet citrus and predominately grapefruit smell. This is combined with moderately a sour smell and hits of hops.

T - A dominating sour citrus taste with a strong grapefruit presence. The IPA bitterness is present, but not overbearing. There is also a very pleasant sweetness to the taste.

M - Very smooth, crisp, and refreshing. The thickness seems medium to light. The alcohol burn is very mild.

O - Probably my favorite IPA, but I do not have much experience with Double IPAs. It is sweet and refreshing and not overly bitter, especially for an IPA. I could see enjoying this beer on a warm spring day, on a beach, or in a tropical location. Although, it is still enjoyable during in this winter that will never end.

pours a slightly hazy light amber with a quarter finger of head that left right away.

Smell is a lot of tropical notes from the mosaic, sweet honey, maybe some honeydew melon, grapefruit, pine, some minor berry notes, caramel malt

taste is bitter up front, heavy tropical notes of mango, papaya, orange, pineapple, some grapefruit and pine kicks in towards the end, a definite sweet malt base here with notes of caramel, honey, bread and biscuit.

Mouthfeel is full and sticky with medium light carbonation, dry an sweet on the finish.

Well this is a damn good beer, I really enjoyed this on, I will probably go through a few 4 packs of this while it is around!

A - Amber orange with good clarity and a thin puff of white head that quickly subsides to a swirly layer that surrounds the glass.

S - Extremely floral, hop zest, tropical fruit, citrus, perfume, resinous.

T - Hop bomb from the very start - citrus and fruity and nicely balanced with a sweet malt backing. Medium to full bodied - this brew warms you as it comes to room temp.

O - Really solid DIPA that is aggressively hopped and yet balanced nicely.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a tulip glass. Best by 05/06/14

A- Pours a deep copper with a high degree of clarity. Has a small very slightly off-white head that dissipated to a thin ring.

S- Getting a lot of stone fruits, smells a lot like another recent beer I had Hi-Res. Tropical notes of passion fruit and some of that honey malt coming through. The alcohol is coming through slightly but pretty well masked, Mosaic is fragrant enough to overpower the alcohol.

T- Similar to aroma, passion fruit, peach, apricot, slight floral notes, nice smooth bitterness. Lovely sweet malts, papaya. Alcohol is hidden well, better than in the aroma.

M- Nice on the heavier side of medium for a dipa which is right where I like it.

O- I'm really impressed by this beer. After having a few of the recent popular Mosaic beers and not really liking the sort of medicinal aspect of this hop I was surprised to not get any of that in this beer, just the wide variety of fruits that I like out of Mosaic. Only got one bottle of this to test the waters and will definitely be going back for a full 4-pack.

Poured 12oz bottle drink by 5/18/14 into New Belgium globe

A-Pours a bright, clear, orange color, with small off-white head and some strong lace.

S-The aroma is clean and hoppy, fresh mango, pine/resin, and some grapefruit.

T-The flavor is clean hops, medium sweet and medium bitter, balanced and flavorful

M-The mouthfeel is medium, it has nice carbonation, and a clean, mid-dry finish

O-This is a really nice DIPA. It has fresh and clean flavors, and a well-balanced taste overall. It isn’t the most bitter example of the style out there, but just a really tasty and nicely made example. Really enjoyed this way to go Founders I need to find some more.

12oz. bottle poured into a snifter

A- A gorgeous, perfectly clear amber-orange. A thing off-white head dissipates quickly.

S- HUGE tropical notes. Tangerine, apricots, mango, passionfruit, pineapple abound. Aroma just jumps from the glass.

T- Sweet hops. Follows the nose, but there's a bit more grapefruit than there is on the nose. A little bit of everything from the realm of hops, mainly tropical, some grapefruit, a hint of earthy notes and pine.

M- A nice medium body, which dries just a bit on the finish.

O- Like Heady Topper and don't have access to it? This will at least scratch the itch for Heady a bit.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with some dryness arriving late. Long lasting aftertaste,

Overall: a well balanced DIPA that is nicely refreshing and enjoyable. One of my favorites from GLB.

Pours a brilliant copper color with a half finger of head that dissipates quickly but leaves some lacing behind. The nose is a fine blend of hops and citrus. The malt backbone on this offering is solid – in fact, this is quite a well-balanced DIPA. The finish has bitterness along with a hint of sweet, but it’s not super-hoppy. The biggest drawback is that the alcohol gets just a bit too much at the very end.

chillwave double IPA 4pk bottles $8.99(OH) aka known as alchemy hour double IPA.

12 oz brown bottle poured into an etched pint glass. freshest taste date clearly marked, as always.

pours a deep dark copper color. very crisp and clear, a two finger head that left good lacing.

the smell is amazing! i smell a robust outburst of hops. a sweet citrus smell with lots of hoppy action and a subtle pine smell. its telling me come on in and sit down for a while.

the taste is even better. the 9.5 abv is super masked. tastes no stronger than 7.5 abv. a hoppy outburst, followed by a grapefruit citrus taste, finished off very smoothly and with subtle piney souroundings. the after taste is less bitter than any IPA i have ever tasted.

mouth feel is rather light. i was not expecting this at all. feels half as thick/heavy as their 7.5 abv commodore perry. still i have no complaints here.

overall this is a great IPA from the guys at great lakes. not as stong as some double IPA's, but more tasty and less bitter. im confused on the 4 pack idea. why not a sixer? after i drank four i wished i bought another 4pk. amazing brew! however hard to find and in a 4pk. again why a 4pk?

Appearance - Dark bronze color. Very clear, poured a two finger head with vigorous pour.

Smell - I'm getting a piney smell then get the smell of Mosaic Hops.. Smells good.

Taste - Taste seems less than what I smelled. Decent beer, but taste just seems to fade away.

Mouthfeel - At 9.4% ABV the alcohol is well hidden which is important to me.

Overall - A good DIPA, but not the best in my opinion. I enjoy Victory Hop Ranch more than this, but would put this ahead of Victory DirtWolf.

S: Grapefruity with some snot.

Bottle to drinking glass - alls I had.

A. Dark copper color with a finger egg shell head that retreats to a fine bubble rim. Some laces.

S. Nose has strong malt backbone. Hops are prevelant. Minor notes of cat piss, grass, grain, and pine.

T. Strong malt backbone. A noticeable sweetness. The hops come through as sweet pine. Notes of grass, grain, resin, honey, and multi-grain bread.

M. Not very smooth. Thick. Moderate carbonation. Full body.

O. I was a little disappointed. I felt the sweetness actually lended to the lack of smoothness. This ale was overshadowed by other top shelf DIPAs that came out this season. With that said this is a good beer and worth the 10.99 per 4 pack price. I recommend this but I won't keep it around.

S: Strong Mosaic hop aroma, really pungent almost a like a pleasant skunk to it. love it. Strong tangerine and hints tropical fruits in full force. Some grass. Alcohol is well hidden nicely.

T: Like the aroma good amount of tangerine with hints of pineapple and mango. Light bready and sweet caramel. Bitterness is soft, not even close to being harsh. Alcohol is still hidden.

M: Lightly sweet not not alot. Light to medium body that goes down smoothly. Really nice.

O: I really really love the mosaic hop, aromas and flavors are amazing. This beer is amazing, really easy to drink beer. An easy decision to be a new go to beer, hope to see this around more.

APPEARANCE: Bright, brilliant orange. Wisps, tiny wisps, of foam cover small patches of the surface after the half-inch head falls down. There is not a whole lot of lacing, but a few very small spots cling to the glass throughout.

SMELL: Yummy. This beer is FRESH. Very piney. Some grass and citrus notes sneak in behind the pine to round it out. The smell really whets the palate for this one.

TASTE: Wow. The taste is just as good as the smell. A wonderfully bitter (and quite grassy) backbone is the base for a wide array of hop and malt flavors to dance around on. The hops contribute pine, a touch of lemon zest and a hint of grapefruit, in addition to that nice grassiness. The honey and malt sweeten it to the point of almost making it a dessert beer. There is a lot going on here.

MOUTHFEEL: Sweet, but balanced. The body is medium to full and it has a very pleasant stickiness to it, reminiscent of Oskar Blues Gordon/G'Knight.

OVERALL: I LOVE Hopslam. This is on par with Hopslam.

Pours a crystal clear, sunset orange with a nice fluffy head. The head fades, but has not disappeared 10 minutes in. This just plain looks very inviting.

The smell has the usual DIPA suspects, pine, resin, grapefruit, citrus, mango and a deep dank herbal funk that lingers in the shadows. I picked this up as soon as I opened the bottle.

The taste is also the typical DIPA sensations, but slightly tempered. The malt takes some of the sharp edges from the high hop profile. Again citrus, pine and herbs are upfront, malt smoothness on the backside. Not the usual bitter aftertaste of most high ABV DIPA's. Maybe a tad sweet, but I'm not complaining.

The mouthfeel is slick, not as sticky as some of the other hghly rated IPA's. The carbonation is mild and this is very drinkable for the ABV. Beware! The alcohol is well hidden to my pallet.

Great Lakes has a winner with Chillwave. It might not be the best that I've had, but it can run withthe big dogs. I'm saving room in the fridge for more.

Had on-tap at Appalachian Vintner Asheville. Served in a Brooklyn Brewery pint glass.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of bubbly surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Oh baby. Super dank grass and citrus rind notes ooze from the glass. Pungent with a slight booze fume.

T- Flavor stands up to the aroma decently with more citrus than earth though. Notes of juicy fruit, grapefruit and even a touch of guava spiciness. Malt works as a good balancer but doesn't have a large presence. Alcohol is insanely well hidden.

M- Tingly, prickly and sharp but at that great middle ground where things aren't too intense. Medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- I love it when a beer lives up to its hype. Just about every bit as good as I expected.

On draught at the Lincoln Tap House in Cleveland, appearance is burnt orange with a small off - white collar that leaves thin sheets of foamy lace.

Smell is hoppy pine, moderate intensity.

Taste is resinous, oily hops with a chewy malty back-bone of 2 row. Hoppier than the nose, tempered with an orange candy note.

Moutheel is sticky, slippery, chewy, medium+ body.

Drinkability is ok. To sugary sweet for my taste in the style.
