Great Lakes Alchemy Hour Double IPA was disappointing. This is meant to be a DIPA. Where are the hops?
A: Clear orange colour and a head that fades to nothing fast. 3
S: Grainy and not especially hoppy. 3
T: Grainy and malty with some subtle citrus hoppiness. Disappointing lack of hops. 3
M: A little flat. 3

First had: on tap at Pinocchio's, Media, PA
Poured a slightly hazy medium amber color, with a thin cap of white bubbles for a head, a few strands of lacing on the glass. Aroma was decent, citrus, pine, but there was an underlying soapiness in there that was quite unpleasant, and that I hoped was not going to translate into the taste. Well...it did. Pine/herbal hop notes, orange oil, with a major soapy element going on, and a rather sweet malt base; higher alcohol is not hidden. This really did nothing for me. Too sweet, too soapy. Slick mouthfeel, medium body, unpleasant aftertaste. Not at all exemplary of the style. Will not be revisiting this one.

Pours a dark, burnt orange; almost amber. On the nose I got a heavy dose of candied tropical fruit. Sweet mango is jumping out, along with some tartness. Taste is incredibly sweet, with lots of malty caramel. Finishes with mild bitterness. Mouthfeel was fine. Just kind of a meh beer for me, and way too sweet for where my palate's at. Needs more hoppy bitterness to balance things out.
