(on tap at Rogues Gallery - served in a snifter)

A: deep reddish-orange hue, relatively clear.... tuft of sticky foam at the onset, falls down to the sides, little lace

S: toasty malts and dark, grungy, leafy, dried hop flowers.... fumes from a pool of surface booze opening up the sinuses... mild caramel, spicy orange

T: nothing unique, per se... just a big, thick, slick malt foundation - sweetish, gummy candy ... candyish orange-y hops... spicy-bitter hop fuzz in the finish, riding a wave of cordial booze... lingering tobacco-like note in the aftertaste

M: pretty damn viscous and full-bodied for an IPA... reminds me of a Belgian ruby-red holiday ale, hopped out the ass with American cones... substantial tonic alcohol warmth, however, smoothed/smothered out by the resiny/dextriny body

O: boldly-hopped but oily-smooth "IPA"... I'm not sure I'd pour this into a snifter, though I'm sure it helped better concentrate the aromas - a balloon or tulip would be more desirable - display some head, see where it goes... this is a bit of an odd hoppy beer - drinks more like a hop cordial... perhaps worth a second chance

Pours with a long lasting beige head of medium size. It sits atop a beer with an orange amber color and has as lightly hazy clarity.

The aroma has a good amount of wet juicy hops with some fruity tropical tones.

Taste is very good and refreshing. I can taste plenty of citrus and tropical hops along with sweet fruits. It's malty too with a fair amount of honey malts. I guess thats what gives the beer the sweetness. The finish is pine resin bitter but its's a smooth, soft bitterness.
Very drinkable beer here that I could easily quzzle.

An orange amber beauty poured into a Solemn Oath tulip

A wave of citrus washes thru with lightly fruity yeast note and fruity hop is very intense.

Sweet malt like sugar cookie then fruit and intense, but smooth bitterness. The taste is amazing.

The carbonation is spot on with a slick mouth-coating hop flavor sensation.

Overall this is the best DIPA I have tried in some time. I imagine this is the Midwest's version of Heady Topper. Seek it out!!!

Poured from a bottle into a snifter.

A: a medium amber orange color with a one finger off white head. Tiny spot glass lacing remains.

S: Wow, smells like fruit cocktail with alcohol! Pineapple and lots of it, grapefruit, candied citrus and sweet caramel malt. Such a distinctive smell.

T: Much as the same as the nose, only a bit of a letdown compared to the smell. Huge candied fruit with lots of pineapple, grapefruit, mango and tangerine. Sweetness comes rushing in with caramel, candy sugar and lots of alcohol. Finish stays sweet, no bitterness at all.

M: Sweet, lasting, alcohol, almost cloying but not quite

O: A really good beer, but as with Lake Erie, it's really sweet. If sweet DIPAs are your bag, this one is for you because the fruit is amazing....maybe the most distinctive tropical fruit I have ever smelled on a beer.

Overall a really good beer where the taste can't quite live up to the smell. Fantastic, fantastic smell, maybe top 5, but the flavor does not quite live up to the smell. Still, try it if you can, it's good.
