I heard great things about this beer so I was excited when I found a four pack after the initial run that I missed out on. The bottles that I picked up were less than a week old when I bought them. My first impressions of this beer were very favorable but then unfortunately, later bottles didn't taste quite as good.
It seems like so many double IPAs are very sweet and malty as a big malt backbone is needed to balance out the huge hop bill. Originally I thought this beer was sweet but very hop-forward. As I cracked open more and more bottles of this, I started to think this beer was overly sweet and it masked the crisp, bitter hops I hoped to find.
Overall, this beer is very good but for whatever reason, my impressions of it got worse with the more bottles I drank.

Bottled 5/11/14, a nice surprise since I thought this was a winter seasonal.
Poured into tulip; dark orange-gold, clear with a minimal white head that fades but leaves tons of delicate lacing.
Smells boozy and sweet, like fruit and fermented honey.
Taste is almost overpoweringly sweet, until the hops come in and save the day at the last second. They bring piney bitterness along with juicy citrus and tropical fruits. Less Mosaic character than I would have hoped for.
Mouthfeel is oily, and it has quite a body even for a DIPA.
Overall, this is a DIPA built like a barleywine with the hops to back it up. Almost too sweet, but the hops balance it well enough. Not for the faint of heart!
