Holy Moses! How haven't I tried this yet? And now Great Lakes has retired this beer - after years of never trying it... now I'm going to miss out on drinking probably the best wit I've had.
Appearance was cloudy orange-golden with a white head that dissipates but leaves a soapy film on the top. Carbonated well. Looks good but nothing truly special.
Smell is of coriander, orange peel, and chamomile. CHAMOMILE! I love chamomile tea and was thinking that there was no way possible that a beer could smell of chamomile at all, since it's such a delicate scent.
Taste - wow, you can really taste the chamomile, orange peel, coriander... it's all crisp and clean. Almost can miss the wheaty background. I kept waiting for the letdown, since I don't like wheat beers if they aren't heavily spiced. There wasn't a letdown. Amazing.
Mouthfeel was crisp and had a bit of a punch from the carbonation. Definitely very clean to drink. Nothing that hangs around and makes you roll up the welcome mat.
Drinkability is outrageously high. If you still see these on the shelves, gobble them up and drink them up. They're replacing this one with the Hale Ale - hopefully that's just as good as this one, or there'll be an uprising.
Well done, Great Lakes! Bravo!
