As a Clevelander, I'm lucky enough to have one of the finest breweries in the world right at my doorstep. Located downtown in a landmark area called Ohio city, it's surronded by pre prohibition era buildings and creates a very cool ambiance.
I sipped an Eliot Ness at the same antique wooden bar the man himself often frequented. His bullet holes still adorn the bar above large mirrors. I decided to do some research and take the brewery tour, which begins at the bar in the cellar, the original brewhouse before they relocated across the street. I'd recommend this tour especially to anyone interested in homebrewing, or any fellow BA.
The patio outside was a nice place to sit and enjoy their sampler of the nine beers on tap. Of course I would like to see more of their thirty-three varieties on tap, but I'd rather sacrifice a larger variety of pastuerized seasonals for a smaller selection of fresh quality beer. Pretzels made from the brewery's spent barley grains are a nice touch to cleanse the palate between samples. The menu is expensive, but it is all organic and according to local newspapers, "very fine cuisine".
All Cleveland BA's should be proud of a local brewery so concerned with repect to the environment, the Bavarian purity law, and outstanding brew. Respect beer. Respect GLBC.
