On tap @ the brewpub on 7/17/10. Served in tulip glass.

Pours a clear copper, with a thin head of bright-white foam. Retains with some mostly light fizziness around the edges of the glass, leaving just a small smattering of lace back. The aroma smells like a combo of sweetness and some lightly astringent tartness in the nostrils from the malts and black currants. There's a lot of estery activity going on here as well, with some fruit, spice, and earth all adding complexity and dryness to the nose.

The taste is sweet up front, with softer fruit and earth running throughout and into a finish of gritty bitterness and steady spicy dryness. The tartness of the cassis is coming out nicely, if not a little more on the subtle side, giving this some added crispness on the palate. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, maybe a touch fuller, with some sharpness to the carbonation on top but then more silky underneath, keeping this slicker feeling in the mouth despite just a touch of alcohol beef being present.

This was pretty good, despite there being a little more sweetness in the taste than I would have liked but the tartness of the cassis character really helped add a welcome fruity bite to the profile that helped keep this complex and flavorful for the most part. Black currants are making a comeback in Vermont and this was a good use of them.

First had: on tap at Bobcat Café & Brewery

Standard saison, pretty tasty. Medium brown color with a light, white head. Aroma of grassiness and some sweet fruits, the latter of which dominates the taste. Medium mouthfeel, maybe just a bit of syrupy sweetness lingers on. Moderately drinkable.

Enjoyed on tap at the Brewpub. I'm happy for the locals they have beer this good to drink considering the size of this quaint small town. Then again this is Vermont.
This beer is a nice blend of peppery fruit esters from the yeast and Belgian malts. Mixed in is Vermont Blackcurrants to create a nice balance between dry and fruitiness.
Well done Bobcat.
