Sometimes you can buy cheap Gerrman, Czech or Danish low alcohol beer in Swedish supermarkets. They seem to appear and fly by night, probably brewed in occasional batches by the brewer for the Swedish market. I got a bottle of 3,5% Darguner Pilsener at the budget supermarket Netto. Darguner Brewery is situated in Dargun, near Rostock in the far north of old East Germany. The color was pale golden and it poured with a swarm of ascending bubbles. The foam disappeared quickly, though. The beer smelled of bread and sour dish rags. The taste was bland and watery with some bitterness and bread although everything seemed to vanish in two seconds. All and all Darguner Pilsener ranks on an average level among the low alcohol pilseners marketed in Sweden.

500 ml bottle, bought in a NETTO store, Denmark. Very pale golden colour, large head. This is a reinheitsgebot beer, but the aroma still has strong elements of maize/corn-like sweetness, notes of boiled vegetables, honey and a flower bouquet on its way to the dustbin. Flavour is dominated by over-cooked vegetables and corn, far too sweet for a pilsener, lacks completely the freshness and crispness a good pils should have. A harsh bitterness in the finish does not help much. Disappointing, but I guess that’s what you should expect when crap brewers Harboe own the brewery.

Drinking from a 500 ml bottle. 5% ABV. It has the typical hop profile of the style, though a bit weak on mouth. Nice aroma of fresh grass. At first, carbonation feel was excessive, than got better. Very drinkable and no bad notes at all.

I tasted the 5% version. Light yellow color. Made some head that dissipated quickly.
Very faint aroma of herbal hops. In its taste, predominance of malt and grassy hops that leaves a somewhat lingering bitterness. Good carbonation. Aftertaste a litle dry. Good alternative to adjunct lagers , given its price.
