Poured into a sam adams glass, nice head, tan, developed with good retention and lacing. Appearance was almost black in color. Aroma had notes of pine, chocolate, coffee, spice and pumpkin. Tasted of coffee and spice, strong spice, with a bite up front. Strong spice notes of of cinnamon, allspice and cardamom. Mouthfeel was medium to full with a dry and bitter aftertaste.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 2.25 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Black glass holds a thin tan head that leaves loops of lace. No light comes through, even at the edges.

Smell: Spice note is up front, pumpkin pie, pear skin, slightly vegatal but not to a flaw. No raosted barley, or any real malt or beer smell comes through save maybe a slight yeasty note.

Taste: Deep, under the pumpkin pie spice (clove? nutmeg? cinnamon?), under the cola sweet base malt, there is a slight ribbon of something dark and malty. But it is deep under the mountain.

Mouthfeel: Odd creamy texture that evaporates too quickly into a very light bodied beer. Very high carbonation has it go frothy in the mouth more than fizzy, the body isn't heavy enough to support it so it ends up being dried out and empty.

Overall: Over spiced, not heavy enough to cellar to let it settle down, a bit of a train wreck, but a good evening sipper, a pumpkin, or pumpkin pie spice beer that's better than most.

Thanks to Illudium for the sample!

This beer is awesome!

It has a medium/light body with a non-overbearing pumpkin taste, preferable to some of the more mainstream beers with strong, syrupy pumpkin flavors. Followed up by a subtle but crisp spice after taste.

picked this up at a liquor store in the boonies while traveling cross-country, and I'm sad to say I cant find it anywhere else now. Great stuff.

I liked it. As much a pumpkin ale as it is a porter, but it works. Poured from a 12 oz cn into a pint glass. Dense brown color, just a little light coming through at the bottom of the glass. Big light tan head with good retention and lacing.

Smell is roasted malt, pumpkin and pumpkin spices. Pleasant aroma.

Taste is more of the same. A malty beer with strong pumpkin and pumpkin spices overtones.

Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. No hint of alcohol.

A tasaty and imaginative brew.

12oz : tulip

Pours black with a foamy light brown head and spotty lacing.

The caraway and cinnamon come through initially, as more of a general allspice character, with hints of the pumpkin and a pleasant dark, roasty, faintly cocoa backbone. The spices certainly lend a distinct Pumpkin Ale character.

Medium body, finishes a bit thin for my liking, but I've found that to be typical with the lager yeast used for Baltic Porters so I can't really knock it. Foamy carbonation.

A well done take on a Baltic Porter, though it is certainly just as equally a Pumpkin Ale in taste in my opinion. Happy to have another can to enjoy.

Pour: Black with some dark brown edging, and a great fluffy head.

Aroma: Cinnamon and pumpkin with sweet chocolate malts and a bit of saltiness. A strange aroma, with the pumpkin and spice taking over.

Taste: Again, the pumpkin and cinnamon are right up front, but now more of the chocolate comes through, with a touch of coffee. There is a certain bitterness to the flavor, which comes in at the end nicely. Still, the pumpkin is the focus, as it should be.

Overall: A decent porter, though I’m not entirely sure the pumpkin works as well as I might like. I wouldn’t mind trying the porter behind this beer with no pumpkin added.

A: Pours nearly black and nearly opaque, with lots of tan head. The foam subsides to a thin but solid layer, leaving lots of lacing.

S: Sweet and roasty, with possibly a touch of heat from the booze.

T: Medium roasty sweetness, with a slightly bitter roasted note coming forward through the finish. Nice balance overall, if a little light.

M: A little odd; overall, pretty full bodied, but a little thin feeling through the middle. Medium carbonation.

Overall, good. It's a pretty solid option for a darker stronger beer in cans. It could be better though, and it's lighter than you would expect for the ABV.
