11 ounce pour - $7.50 at Taco Mac in East Roswell, Georgia.

Appearance: Dispensed a dark brown, opaque body with a near inch of ever-so-slightly yellowed head with surprising staying power.

Smell: Toasted, near burnt breadcrusts layered with sweet-scented notes of rich caramel and brown sugar. Some fruitiness within. Pithy, resiny hop elements, and, of course, some noted booze underneath it all.

Taste: Deep, heavy toastiness, some light accompanying roast, and a big taste of Brach's caramel cubes. It's plenty sweet, but, not too sweet. Mild ripe dark fruitiness. Citrusy, resinous hops are fighting the sweetness, pushing to be seen, to be heard, delivering a growing bitterness. Closes out dry, bitterish, and warm, with a lingering earthy, pithy quality.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A barleywine you say "sure" to.

Bottom of the can stamped 11/07/13.

Into a chalice.

A: somewhat hazy caramel brown color, the head was a thin half finger-ed white, no lacing

S: caramelized malts with a subdued happiness but has a certain dryness about it

T: sweet all the way through with some added brown sugar and dark fruits, no aftertaste, quick dry finish

M: medium on the body, it seems like it wants to show a decent sessionable quality to it but it still has that ABV that hides itself well enough to not show its face, there seems to be a dryness coating my mouth and tongue

O: hmmm. .. decent enough American Barley wine that tried to keep the hops in it, I can tell they're there but there's a slight "dead" quality to it, no worries, I realize the date it was made and the date I'm having it, so nothing to worry about, this is just something I have to come back to fresher

Unfortunately this was a little pour at a beer tasting...so take this review as such. This is a very nice representation of the style. I wouldn't say that it is in the middle, but it isn't the best, but it certainly isn't the worst.

Taste: Deceivingly sweet as you first sip it, then the hops kick in. This works very well for the beer. The sweetness and the hop is fruity.

This is definitely worth a try!

Small red bull sized can. 92IBU. 11.5%ABV. Tagline on can: "American style barleywine ale packed with citrusy hops".

Pour lends a medium browish-red / rust color. Hazy apple juice color in snifter. Started with a small head that fades quickly into non-existence. Aggressive swirl causes carbonation bubbles to cake a tiny eggshell colored head that again quickly fades to nothing.

Upon opening can, immediately could smell citrus notes from the can. Upon further sniffing, caramel sugar being bathed in by orange peel.

Aggressive swirl followed by first sip leads to aggressive piney hop melting into thick sugars pounding your taste buds followed by a dry tongue and creamy sugary throat.

Less complex than hoped for a style begging for complexity.

Had at Bar of Soap Asheville. Served in a stemless wine glass.

A- Pours a light brown color with a 1/2 inch tan head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Sweet cereal grain malt with a big shot of brown sugar and vanilla. Slightly boozy and a trace amount of hop aroma.

T- Comes on sweet and Bready but then there's the moderate hop bitterness and booze. Notes of caramel, honey and maple. Not necessarily complex but there's a lot going on. Layers of vanilla and sweet bread. Good hop burps.

M- Slightly syrupy with medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- Not an awesome barleywine, but one that delivers what it's supposed to.
