12oz can poured into a milkshake pilsner glass. Canned on 12/23/11.
Appearance: Golden-orange, mostly clear with the slightest amount of chill haze. Very very thin skin of foam on top - off white in color. Thin sheets and strands of persistent lacing noted in spite of the weak foam across the top. Weak in the foam dept. for an AIPA.
Smell: Citrus, grapefruit, pine. Not overpowering, not exceedingly hoppy either. Hops only in aroma, not picking up any of the malt.
Taste: Mostly bitter at first, then quick transition to the malt in the middle, and then the hops spread out and you can pick out the citrus, pine, and grapefruit. Very typical AIPA, nothing special.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, nicely thick. Hop oils definitely stick to the teeth, but not for long.
Overall / Drinkability: Not a bad AIPA, but not the best I've had either. Interestingly, despite the comments I've heard about AIPAs going well with spicy food, this did not go well with chipotle + bean + cheese quesidillas. But by itself, a good bear, just not great. Reasonably drinkable, I would probably have another if offered, but this evening one is enough.
