Poured from a can into a pint glass. Light/pale yellow color, with a bit of haziness to it. Quickly dissipating head with no lacing to speak of. The aroma was that of, well, watermelons. Pretty sweet smelling...very one-dimensional. Didn't really get any notes of anything else significant. The taste is overpowered by watermelon-y sweetness. Not very complex. The wheat is slightly present, but not enough so due to the overpowering nature of the watermelon taste. Of course...this is a watermelon brew, so I can't complain. I did find it VERY refreshing on a hot summer day. That's probably the only time I would drink it.

Light in body...I actually thought the carbonation was pretty decent. I might have preferred a little less carbonation only because I felt that it added to the soda-like nature of this beer. Enjoyable in some situations, but definitely not a staple in my fridge.

Pours a light straw-colored yellow with thick, white head. Some floaties in the brew; appears to be the watermelon.

Smells residually sweet, with a bit of grain and breadedness from the wheat.

Watermelon flavor is apparent but not overwhelming, and complements the brew rather nicely. The clean graininess of an all-malt lager, with a hop finish offering a bigger bite than expected. No big breaded/wheat elements tho, unfortunately.

Solid hot-weather beer with clean, crisp body.

This is good for what it is. If you don't want watermelon in your beer, then don't drink it. If you're seeking a lighter-bodied fruit beer which doesn't overwhelm with its added element, you will enjoy this unique offering.

Muddy lemon with a significant yeasty blurriness. The ivory colored crown maxed out at several fingers and looks good enough, both after the pour and as it descends. I like the lack of clarity and the attractive array of frost-like lace.

If I use my imagination, there *might* be a whiff of watermelon in the nose. Otherwise, the beer smells dull and not very distinctive, like an especially tart 'n tangy APWA. The flavor has some serious work to do. As is often the case, warming opens things up enough for the next highest score to be granted.

Hallelujah! Hell Or High Watermelon Wheat Beer actually tastes like the fruit for which it's named. This is one unique beer. It gets high marks for having just the right amount of fruit flavor and for tasting natural rather than artificial. I guess that's what happens when 400 lbs of melons are used per batch.

The base beer is less than outstanding. There isn't much malt, it tastes a bit grainy and there's a little too much bitterness. Maltier and sweeter would be better, as long as the amount and quality of the watermelon juiciness remains the same. The finish is kinda, sorta crisp and quenching.

Although it isn't wonderful, the mouthfeel has just enough going for it to be considered above average. It's light-medium, is firmer than it is smooth and is generously bubbled. Not bad... not bad.

Hell Or High Watermelon Wheat succeeds because it tastes authentically watermelon-like. That's a good start. Here's hoping that 21st Amendment isn't completely satisfied and continues to tweak the recipe. Thanks to Georgiabeer for the opportunity.

Poured from can into pint glass...

A- Pours golden straw colored; very light and hazy from suggested yeast rouse. Small foamy white head, fluffy but not stable as it disappears completely in short amount of time

S- Has sweet subtle watermelon followed by very slight tartness... Some very slight yeast spice to balance and a bread-y malt characteristic.

T/M- Tart and sweet while being very refreshing. Fruit is subtle but it always reminds you it's there. Light body and crisp carbonation on the tongue with lingering bubbles... Beer flavor has a grainy wit base which is definitely there, but could be slightly more prominent...

O- Great fruit beer for a hot day. I'm not one to love fruit beers but this was decent per style. I would buy this again for it's purpose, not to mention the girlfriend liked as well... I'm a bit sick of all fruit beers getting horrible scores just because it isnt the most favored style

A - Pale pils body, slightly cloudy. Slow, rising carbonation. Foamy white head.

S - Crisp, floral hops and dry malt. Sweet, white bread starches, and yeast. Touc of candy sugar.

T - Slightly chewy sweet wheat. Mild malt and dry hops. Some floral hop notes and a hint of watermelon candy.

M - Light and drinkable, with no real punch. Just an easy summer beer.

Pours out a nice gold color, small amount of head. Smells like a wheat beer, bit of citrus some watermelon rind? Tastes very light, I can probably drink this all day... watermelon flavor, a bit like watermelon jollyranchers, nice amount of carbonation... definitely refreshing.

I loved the way the watermelon added to this beer. Not overpowering sweetness, just some light melon flavor in the background, refreshing yet slightly dry. This is an excellent summer, hot weather beer. Nice wheat backbone, pale golden in color, light foamy head.

Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue VIII:

The can says to agitate before opening, so we know this is an unfiltered wheat. Fermented with watermelon, and watermelon juice added. The wheat really rises to the occasion with a sturdy and healthy froth, and does not want to move even after a sip or two. Golden yellow color, obvious haze from the yeast that was agitated back into the beer. Big wheat and yeast twang in the nose with a mild, fermented fruit tartness and bitterness from the rind. More than enough crispness to go around, compliments of the wheat. Moderately sized body. Quick, refreshing twang of fermented watermelon and rind that resembles a rhubarb-like flavor. Hops leave a little bit of bitterness, just enough to balance. Melon flavor throughout is light but even. Finishes with a lasting kernel of wheat malt and remnants of melon rind.

Interesting stuff here: The watermelon works with and contrasts itself at the same time. Perhaps a bit to intricate though still somewhat drinkable. Worth a shot if you are into different kinds of fruit beers.

Cloudy yellow pour with a nice creamy white head. Smells of yeast with the faintest watermelon note, though i'm not sure if i would've gotten that blindly.

Watermelon flavor is more pronounced in my mouth, though not overwhelming. I'm not a big fan of ciders or fruit beers, but this I can handle. Very light. Almost hard to tell that it's a beer. Pairs nicely with a fresh chevre.

On a hot sunny day, my wallet would be the limiting factor of how many of these I could drink.

This one is a heavily clouded light golden color. The white head pours out fizzy and sits for a short while before dying away, leaving very light lacing behind.
There's a slightly tart aroma with an earthy note and just a very light touch of watermelon in the nose. Wheat is here as well. It's a bit dull.
It seems pretty evident that there's a very real watermelon flavor in this one; this is a plus for the flavor in that it's what one might expect, but, on the other hand, it seems to water down the beer itself. There's a light wheat presence underneath. It has very little malt presence and a mild hops bitterness. There's also an unmistakable metallic tinge to this. I've had the IPA and I had to try another of these from a different store to be sure, but it's inescapable and not a product of canning.
While seeming watered down, the body is a light to medium and not too thin for the style. it does lack zip, though, and there's just enough of a crisp bite and tame smoothness to place it above average.
This isn't bad, and it's certainly natural, I just really need a bit more strength and depth.
