Looks like the date has been scratched off the bottom of the can, but as far as I can tell by the look, smell and taste and feel that nothing seems too off to be too bad. Ok, let's do this.

From the can into a pint glass.

A: hazy yellowed body with what looks like fruit particles floating around, one finger frothy-like foamy head that dies within less than thirty seconds, lacing tries to cling but slides and is pretty sporadic all over the place

S: wheat and watermelon up front, some pineapple, light lemon and strawberry in the background coming through in a sweet candy-like expression, slightly herbal as well

T: sweet and bready through the previously mentioned fruits; watermelon/wheat aftertaste, watery sticky finish

M: light, sessionable, carbonation is good for the style as there's a nice refreshing sort of quality to probably want someone to pound these on a hot day for me, not bad

O: with all of the fruit that I get in this beer, I can definitely see a very nice refreshing aspect to it that would be nice on a hot summer's day but for me, there could be just a tad too much, basically an average fruit beer to me

Nothing tastes more like summer than the unofficial fruit of watermelon. And when trying to use that refreshing taste to create an unofficial beer of summer the concern is whether the delicate and crisp taste could stand up- even to a light American Wheat Beer.

But as the beer pours, there's little evidence of the fruit inside. The hazy straw ale is nicely golden at its depths. A certain tilt of the glass can show a pinkish stain, but maybe that's also my mind playing tricks on me. Its foamy head rises with a character that's partly frothy and partly sprite. With retention and lacing both moderate, I get the impression that its head character would underwhelm if I allowed the session to last very long.

There it is! Not just watermelon, but all sorts of melon with strawberry and cantaloupe. And with supporting aromatics of bread and pulled candy- the scent hinges on hard candy flavor with those fruity scents front and center. Not all fruit, the beer's mild citrus and leafy aromas cast a hoppy note on the senses going into taste.

Its flavors start earthy and sweet as the wheat of the beer is mildly grainy-sweet and filled with shortbread. The melon flavors start moderate and continue to build, each sip more heightened than the other with a taste that hinges of the dripping ripeness of watermelon and that of candy. Yet its herbal, leafy and mildly grassy finish returns to hops as the ale crispens right up.

Light bodied from sip 'til finish, the ale is somewhat watery, but perhaps by design. Its creamy-dry upstart quickly sheds its carbonation to usher in a grainy and wafer-thin finish to prop up the taste. Its finish is herbal and grassy with minty warmth.

Akin to Abita's Strawberry Harvest, the ale underneath the fruit offers tepid support and the fruit, though truly seductive seems a bit contrived. If the balance is off, then it is beautifully off. I have a soft spot on my palate for these types of beer.

Normally, I stay away from fruit flavored beers because they often come across tasting like candy or are just too sweet for my liking. But not with Hell or High Watermelon. You get a hint of the watermelon and it doesn't over power other parts of the beer. It's actually one of my go to beers to bring to summertime BBQ's at the neighborhood pool. It's very refreshing to drink on a hot summer's day.

Interesting beer. It is straw colored, with a small head. Faint haze. Vegetal smell...not quite watermelon, but rather a watermelon rind and stem. The taste, though, is very summery, full of farm watermelon. One of the more unique beers I've ever had. Light and dry, but very genuine. Interesting and fun.

12 oz can poured into a tulip.
4.9% ABV,

A - Slightly hazed, Hell or High Watermelon is warm pale straw yellow in color with a soapy white head that relaxes to a ring of foam and little lace left behind.

S - Juicy Jolly Rancher watermelon aroma blends with pale malt and soft wheat for a simple but dry, inviting aroma that suggests faint tartness in the background.

T - Watermelon flavor is at the forefront and carefully teeters between authentic and artificial, but nicely blending with the one dimensional pale malt base.

M - Crisp and refreshing, Hell or High Watermelon is light bodied and effervescent with a slightly dry finish that trails off with clean drinkability.

O - It's been my experience trying to incorporate the flavor of natural watermelon into a beer without a syrupy, fake outcome is incredibly hard. That said, I think 21st Amendment has done a fine job producing such a beer; one with good watermelon flavor incorporated nicely into a

A pretty solid summer brew that it seems is becoming a love-it or hate-it beer around most parts. I get the complaints that it doesn't taste like real watermelon, but what really does? Hell, watermelon tastes like pure sugar sometimes depending on the quality of it.

Either way, this is an extremely sessionable beer that is light, smooth, and good for the summer. I can't imagine drinking this at any other time than on a hot day (and it's really, really, really good for working on cars in a hot driveway), so I should limit my review to that, I guess.

EIther way, I like it quite a bit in the summer but would never want to drink it at any other time.

12oz can into a tall pils glass.

A: Cloudy effervescent straw color with a faint wispy white head.

S: Light wheat beer aromas, yeast, some grassy notes and a touch of fruitiness...no real watermelon aromas.

T: More watermelon here but I'm not partial to it - sorta fake and funky, a bit sour. Musty and grainy as wheat beers go, but watery at the same time.

MF: Lighter body with moderate carbonation.

O: Not real good. I finished the glass but didn't really want to. Don't like the watermelon that is there, and there isn't a lot of it. As far as a wheat beer its light and pilsner-like, grainy and grassy and watery. Just not my favorite but not terrible.

12 ounce can, canned on 6/27/13. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with about an inch white head. Head retention is decent, and there isn't much lacing. The brew smells mostly like sweet and bready malt, along with a bit of watermelon Jolly Rancher candy. The taste is similar to the aroma, except that there's more balance between the malty and watermelon flavor. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's smooth and easy enough to drink. Not a bad beer for a hot day. I only grabbed this since I was able to get a single can at my local Kroger. I wouldn't buy a six pack of this, but it's worth trying if you've never had it before.

The appearance isn't bad - pale cloudy straw color, 2 fingers of lacing which dies pretty quickly; But I am getting about as much taste as a Miller Lite, maybe with a slight watermelon fruit essence and slight melon odor. Highly carbonated. Was worth one try to satisfy my curiosity, but will never get again.

Can poured into glass gives a large, creamy, pure white head with okay retention. Beer is pale yellow in color and leaves minimal lacing. Smells mostly of wheat, but also has a bit of pepper and some fruity notes.

Can taste the watermelon much more then can smell it. The watermelon flavors go along with, but also do not overpower the wheat. Many fruit/wheat beers seem to have the fruit overpower the beer but this does not. Watermelon flavor tastes very real at first, but finishes a little more sweet, like a hint of watermelon jolly rancher. Still a very interesting beer, and I think they did a good job using watermelon, which I have not seen in a beer before. Mouthfeel is light-medium, and there is a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp finish.

Appearance: Somewhat cloudy, muted gold. Large, actively-foamy head that dissipates very quickly. No lacing or residual foam.

Smell: Sweet watermelon, wheat, biscuity malt.

Taste: Simple in flavor with sweet, fresh watermelon taking center stage with standard wheat flavors. The watermelon is not cloyingly sweet or overpowering, it's actually worked into the beer in a very pleasing way. Somewhat watered down, though.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied with moderate carbonation, very drinkable.

Overall: Exactly what you would expect a watermelon-wheat beer to be. Though I enjoy how the watermelon is integrated into the beer, I wish it was more flavorful. This does make a very good summertime session beer, as it is very refreshing and drinkable.

Poured from the can into a wheat ale glass.

A real nice decent looker on the pour. Big perfectly pinhead forming head, bleach white, four fingers tall with soapy retention and falling slowly. Body color is a very pale yellow and orb glowing with a classic opaque unfiltered appearance. Nice simple rising carbonation, very solid looking brew.

Faint wet watermellon on the nose, but some off smelling character to match. Not much wheat malt sense or chewyness. Off smelling character is semi vegetative but more of a bitter bile sense which isn't very pleasant.

Palate is very thin. Watery body, with hardly any wheat malt density. Crazy and weird odd finish, with some malt sweetness but a real off pleasant rind fruit bitterness to match. Wet body has some watermellon taste and sweetness, but is quickly overshadowed by a lackluster mouthfeel. The aftertaste leave and unbelievably bitter melon quality which just doesn't go away.

Overall not really diggin this, just all around a not pleasant experience.

Pale yellow to almost clear this beer poured an insignificant white fizzy head an had no lacing.

The aroma is rather floral with an obvious watermelon scent but some rosebush, geranium and honeysuckle.

The taste has got a watery watermelon taste, a little sweet, with a flower like geranium finish. A touch of perfume in the mouth it is strangely alluring, very easy to drink but certainly won't win any awards.

Kind of a let down. Picked up a six pack of this for a really hot day in hopes of sipping at a refreshing summer beer. The watermelon flavor doesn’t really mesh with the beer well. It tastes really artificial like watermelon candy. If you want a watermelon beer I would recommend Thomas Hooker if possible.

Pours a nearly-transparent, lager-like golden yellow, with a foamy white heat that slowly evaporates. The aroma is a musty combination of hops and wheat that is contrasted by a fruity brightness from the watermelon juice. The flavor similarly features the light, juicy watermelon character that tries to uplift, sweeten, and freshen the underlying flavors, but the dull wheat and musty, grassy hops keep the flavor on the dry side. The fine, light carbonation gives an airiness to the mouthfeel that also works to lighten the flavors. Overall, this beer is different, interesting, but mostly gimmicky rather than inspiring.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a light, slightly hazy golden amber with a one finger white head that dissipates slowly to a thin cap. Aroma of melon (smells a bit more like cantelope, actually) and light wheat. Flavor is sweet wheat, watermelon (distinct in the flavor) with hints of caramel as it finishes slightly dry with light grassy hops. Light bodied, as appropriate. A pleasant surprise, I was not expecting much from this combination, but the light watermelon add a delicate fruit sweetness to the wheat which worked quite well. I would definitely think about this for lawn mowing. This would have been too light for a witbier, but delivers exactly what it advertises as a watermelon wheat.

Pale and light yellow color with a light haze. The head is whispy and lacks longevity.

It's not very aromatic, but it has wheat, lemon, and watermelon.

It's tastes exactly as I expected. Whet beer with watermelon. The watermelon is very distinct.

Light body, but crisp and refreshing.

There's not much to this beer yet I feel like I enjoyed it more that my scores would suggest. To put it in context I'm grilling and sweating and it's hot as Hades out here. It was quite quenching.
